  1. My new to mic preamp/channel strip is here. Only used it into the effects return of my little rumble head as a headphone amp but so far very pleased. Pots are a bit scratchy but some use seems to be doing it a lot of good. I really like the e.q. and compressor. The surprise bonus is the gate which works a treat.

Not sure when I’ll get to try it out in anger as the band just fell apart🙄😂

ill stick it in my rack with the power amp tomorrow and blow the paintings off the wall for a bit while Mrs Waddycall is out.

All of my Class AB power amps have been replaced by Class D units. I have no problems with them in power, tone or 'feel'.

Could there be a difference between the quality of class d technology used in a large rack mount power amp and that squeezed into a tiny bass head?

  3. Finally got to try out my power amp and focusrite channel strip with the band last night. Sounded great but the eq on the trakmaster isn’t great for on the fly tweaking. I wanted to boost and cut two frequencies covered by the one parametric bass control so I’m confident I’m going on the right track for me. I'm after something similar but with more comprehensive eq.  Drummer liked it to - “sounds amazing” 👍

  4. Thanks for the info. Currently looking around for different options for rack mount pres and channel strips. I’ve put a post in the wanted section so it’ll be interesting to see if anything turns up.

i dreamt of having a rack set up years ago. Quite nice to have a go at putting one together while I’m still strong enough to carry it.

  5. Following on from this thread

    ....

and my acquisition of a rack mount power amp and focusrite channel strip I’ve been disappearing down a rabbit hole of outdated heavy rack gear and have come across a few old threads wihere people are/were using mic pres and channel strips in their live rigs.  Anyone  still doing this and if so what are you using?

    @Ben4343 that's a nice set up.

If anyone is curious (which you're probably not) I decided to return my RM 500 to the retailer for a full refund.

    Why?

im in Ireland and to post it to UK to have fan swapped out brings the total cost of the amp ever closer to the EVO ii, which with a headphone out would be enormously useful for me. So rather than get it fixed Im gonna get my money back and save a smidge more a for the evo ii.

Many thanks to Dave Green whom I spoke with earlier. Absolute gent. Diagnosed over the phone that my fan sounded abnormal and offered to swap out the fan and ship it back same day. But as I said that would push the total money spent to €440. Another 50 and I can get a new evo ii so that's the plan.

You might want to bear in the mind that the headphone out on the evo2 (800 at least possibly 500) can be irritatingly noisy. You might want to check through this thread and see what others say. Also the line in is a mono line in not stereo aux in so if you want to play along with tracks in your headphones they’ll be mono.

    that's great to hear.

Can I ask, do you guys have a particular number to call them on or is it whatever is on their site?

Just ring their main number and press the option for service. It just sounds a bit more complicated as everyone name drops the great Dave Green.

  8. I sold a rumble 115 cab on here recently and sent it via parcelforce. I dropped it off at our local post office. I went a bit overboard on the packaging but would rather do that than have it arrived damaged.

I put a layer of thick cardboard over the grill with 3 lengths of 2 x 1 timber taped to it as reinforcement bars across the speaker grille then put a layer of bubble wrap over the whole thing and then a layer of cardboard and lots and lots of tape. Worked a treat but took me hours!

I also had a Focusrite Platinum Trakmaster Pro for a while. Beautifully pure-sounding, lovely EQ and still the best compressor I've ever used. Channel strips are brilliant if you want an uncoloured sound.

Thanks for the heads up on these Rich. Just got one from eBay for £41 👍😀 (plus shipping).

    Sounds ace.

It seems to be a bit more complicated than I would have thought.

I'm still not sure what is meant by 'bridging' and 'parrallel'?

Haha ha well hopefully I’ve learnt something -

bridged = 1 input through both channels to 1 output effectively operates as 1 amp

paralellel = 1 input, through two independant channels to two independant outputs effectively two amps with the same input.
