  1. I have an older one I’ve tweaked a lot with different pickups and pre-amps. Got it how I want it now with the Delano hybrid MM/J set up and 2 band eq. Does active MM, passive J or active J. It’s a bit on the heavy side but I love the neck on this. Can’t get on with p bass necks but this one is ace.C96E7587-97B0-42A4-965E-30ABF7AE3418.thumb.jpeg.4bda0d195da17fd59a5a1b97a49332a9.jpegv

  2. Interesting trip to the physio. She reckons there’s nothing wrong with my hand, wrist, or arm and it’s  all down to neck and shoulder issues. I need to lay off the bass playing for a bit until it’s improved but main thing seems to be desk set up at work. Hopefully she’s right and I’ve been putting 2 and 2 together and making 5 with my theories.

Howdy, don't suppose you're ever up the coast in Hampshire by any chance? Interested in some of your gear. Thanks, Gunnar

Hi Gunnar, no plans to be up that way in the near future but if you wanted the cab and one or two other bits I could probably drive up to Cartgate services on the A303 if that’s any good?

  4. After a wasted year of non starter band projects and a bit of RSI in my right arm Ive decided to jack it in for  a while so my live gear is up for grabs.

Cab is collection only but happy to post the rest at buyers expense.

    1) Vanderkley 210LNT 8ohm. Excellent cab in mint condition, super punchy transparent and LOUD. Often said this one cab would be all you need and I agree. I’ll probably regret selling this. I doubt I’ll ever own such a nice cab again. £500

    2) QSC RMX850a power amp. Excellent quality amp if a little on the heavy side. Ill include a 2U carpet covered rack sleeve if sold separately from the pre amp. £150

    3) TL Audio 5051 channel strip/preamp. Lovely valve based preamp with an excellent compressor and really versatile e.q.. The

VU meter can be set to show compressor gain reduction so really handy for trimming the threshold if you want to run it as a limiter. I’ve not had this preamp long but have given all the pots and switches a lube. The eq is ace with selectable frequencies for high and low shelving filters and two narrow band mid range peaks. £250

    4) 4U rack case. Several cracks/splits but holds the gear securely. Free to anyone buying the preamp if you want it.

    5) Hartke HA3500 *SOLD PENDING*

I can post more pictures if requested.

  5. I’m no expert but I think I’d tackle it on this order-

set relief according to fender specs

set Bridge saddles to a nominal setting with some adjustment both ways

    check action

    shim pocket accordingly

makes sense in my head to think of the end of the neck at the pocket as being a fixed point and then adjusting the relative positions of the nut and bridge accordingly.

  6. A couple of years ago I slipped on some rocks at the beach and fractured the middle knuckle of my right middle finger - my number one string plucker. Since then I’ve had a bit of arm/wrist pain and off after playing for any longer than 20 mins or so and developed a ganglion on my right wrist.

In autumn last year I learnt Rio by Duran Duran and repetitive practice of this seemed to make things worse and ever since it’s been a bit more painful. It’s not helped by the CAD drawing I’m doing at work which means frequent mouse clicking (I’m getting a different mouse to help).

short of going to see doctor/physio has anyone else experienced this and are there any exercises you can recommend to ease it?

    The ad is here,

I don't mind arranging shipping if you're genuinely interested.

We’ll if the timing was better it would certainly be a possibility. The bands just disintegrated so no gigs or rehearsals on the horizon so better not spend on gear at the minute.

Sending it back - just E Mailed Thomann , on how to do this .

I've done months of research on the Sonic Farm , and was aware that the High and Low EQ switches are subtle , but they appear to do absolutely nothing at all .

Thought it may be too subtle through speakers , but I've just been testing on headphones , and both switches seem to do naff all - and I mean zilch .

    Disappointed really .

What a shame. Curiosity led me to the manual on their website. Have you tried adjusting the trim pots?

  9. Up for sale is my focusrite platinum trakmaster channel strip. It has a preamp with switchable mic, line, instrument input, a decent compressor and a versatile e.q.

all works as it should no noise, no crackly pots or switches so very good condition other than a few minor blemishes on the front.

Asking price is what I paid on eBay a few months ago so reflects current value.

What is a channel strip, BTW?

It’s a piece of “outboard” studio gear that takes a low level signal and amplifies it to line level and incorporates some e.q. and maybe some dynamics controls. Its similar to the strip of controls for each channel of a recording console. Some only have a pre amp and e.q. and some include a compressor. The eq can be a bit odd too as they’re generally intended more for microphone use although that could be mic’ing a bass or guitar cab/amp. They’re normally used to amplify and add some light adjustment to a signal that’s being recorded.  They’re generally less tonally coloured than a bespoke bass amp or preamp so allow the voicing to come from the instrument if that makes sense. The amplified signal is more faithful to the sound coming from the bass (both good and bad).

i was using a focusrite channel strip until my TL Audio unit came along. I found the e.q. on that a bit challenging for on the fly adjustment. It was very versatile but took some thinking about to get the best out of it. The TL Audio unit is more intuitive with a four band e.q. with selectable frequencies for each band.

not all studio/mic preamps are channel strips as many don’t include e.q. or compressor.

I wanted to try a channel strip as I like to have some compression but don’t really like pedals or want to have  a  bigger rack set up than necessary. It’s all just for fun though and it’s an enjoyable learning curve.
