  1. Thanks, much appreciated. The Hofner and Wilburys are a pretty good match vibe-wise, although the only video I can remember showing TP playing bass with The TWs featured a Danelectro Longhorn.
  2. Funny that, I always think of her as playing a Gibson Les Paul Triumph but that's probably because I gigged a pair of '70s Triumphs for years in the late '80s-early '90s. Mind you it was like having a tree-trunk hanging round your neck. Which is why that mere slip of a lass Tina changed to something lighter. The Hofners would certainly fit the bill weight-wise.
  3. I'd say that he's already done more than enough for Hofner. Without the Macca factor, they might not have lasted this long.
  4. I briefly owned a Hofner Club bass, the Contemporary version IIRC. Didn't get on with it at all but I still have an inexplicable urge to own a violin bass. All down to Macca and the extent to which he (and the Beatles) shaped my muso apprenticeship. Happy days!!
  5. If Macca is still as pally with Putin as the video of his band playing in Red Square would suggest, he may yet be the best bet we've got.
  6. I've just read that Hofner have filed for bankruptcy protection in Bavaria. I assume this is the same as filing for 'Chapter 11' in the USA, which means that the business will be run by administrators in a way that protects the company from market forces for a limited period of time. The idea is to give them a last chance to avoid bankruptcy.
  7. There's a new satin shell pink one on Fleabay now for £866 delivered. Can be returned for a full refund within 60 days BUT you have to pay for (and presumably organise) shipping. Could end up being your worst nightmare if anything went wrong, and there's lots of opportunities for things to go wrong.
  8. I can only remember seeing a handful FS on here in all the years I've been a member. Re importing, they occasionally come up on Fleabay with Japanese sellers and a note saying free returns but I'm always wary - maybe wrongly so. Personal imports are probably quite easy - if you know what you're doing!?
  9. Me too. I've come close to buying a few times, not done it and then wished I had.
  10. +1 for the HB. These basses punch way above their weight in every respect. Err, except weight, that is 🙂
  11. Me too. It's a never-ending journey! My first bass was a new short-scale Watkins Rapier in pale blue like the one pictured below. At the time I didn't even know there were different scale lengths available. Just got it because it was the only thing in our local guitar shop that I could afford. Paid £31 IIRC. If a used one of these came up I'd buy it in a heartbeat. Watkins Rapier bass 1965.avif
  12. Great pic!! Wonder if the bass has survived as you obviously have.
  13. Thanks for the good thought but I'm definitely going to pass on this one.
  14. I was about to buy the Jaydee when I noticed the lack of a serial number on the headstock. Bass Bros said this was because it was a prototype but I'm not prepared to buy something that effectively has no traceability.
  15. And mine's full-colour 🙂
  16. I think that it's a question of how long the neck is left on the BBQ / in the pizza oven - whatever the heat source is. My understanding is that the full roasting process is necessary to achieve the stability benefits and that, by that stage, you're very close to ending up with a lump of charcoal apparently. Obviouslt the neck has then to be sealed in a way that stops any moisture getting back in. Can't remember where I actually read the above but I think it was in the course of researching Wilcock basses. I now have one btw but it looks like the neck has been cooked by somebody who eats his steak raw.
  17. Bernard's a proper Basschat-er and we've done transactions in both directions. Deal with confidence!!
  18. The female vocalist in a functions band I was in a while back had also been a pro dancer. She just used to drag people off their chairs and get them up dancing. Funniest time was at a rugby club do when she did it to a six-foot-plus prop forward guy much to the hilarity of his mates. There's no way that guy was gonna move so she just wrestled him to the ground - at which point he had to stand up. Lorraine was 5' 5" and no more than 8 stone.
  19. That's a good price from a retailer!! I've had one of these and it was very nice indeed.
