The Short Scale Bass Appreciation Society!
scrumpymike replied to Baloney Balderdash's topic in Bass Guitars
Had a lovely white s-s 'Ray that was very comfortable to wear, a nice player and sounded great. Come to think of it, why did I sell it? Disposing of it virtually amounted to a criminal offence. "Before sentencing, I'd like 27 similar offences taken into account m'Lud!" -

I'm tempted too, especially by the V2 with 3 p'ups and single row of push-buttons. -

For a custom/boutique builder, that inconsistency is a little worrying - to me at least!! -
Matt just bought a bass, which he came round to collect. Smooth transaction from start to finish, enjoyed meeting and chatting with him too.

Thanks for that! I too am a potential owner of either a Wilcock or a Serek, although probably second-hand (if I live long enough for one or other to come up FS!!) Not impressed by your comments on the Wilcock though - IMHO completely unacceptable for what they cost. By chance, I played one the other day and liked it a lot, albeit a single pick-up version and I'd need two. Didn't notice any sharp edges anywhere. I assume we talking fretboard or headstock edges here. Playability-wise, I'd put it up there with the excellent s-s Sandberg Lionel I owned for a while and should have kept. -

Not owned an Acinonyx but had a very long play at our recent S-W Bass Bash on the one that's for sale on here. Really liked it but don't have an empty slot for anything at the minute. -

McCartney was one of my main men (along with Jamerson, Fraser and Bruce) in my formative years and I've been itching to get a H violin bass ever since. Still not managed it but came close with a HCT Club, which I didn't like much and sold on. Your post is timely as I've recently been considering the HCT Beatle bass, mainly from the price/quality point of view. Not sure what the neck was on my Club but, if it was the chunky 42mm version, that could be the reason I didn't get on with it. Is that neck common across the HCT models? -
Anybody in a band that covers All Right Now. That's been me since around 1970 folks 😎

Eden WTX264 amp & EX110 cab 4ohm - *SOLD*
scrumpymike replied to Raslee's topic in Amps and Cabs For Sale
I'm a massive Eden fan and have owned several of their heads including this one. I ran mine through an 8ohm BF One10 and I'm sure this will do just as good a job plus a few more dBs. I would have snapped it up myself if I hadn't just bought a Rumble 100 combo at around the same price. To be honest I would have preferred this. I too spent a while looking for the 500W version but never found one. -

Well done for jumping on this topic! I'm considering adding a fretted V2 to my collection and it's good to see someone from Nordstrand reaching out across the pond. We know that you have UK distribution via Bass Direct but, like most distributors, they are just a stock-holding operation rather than a dynamic sales/marketing/promotional organisation. As a prospective customer I need to feel some kind of direct link with the manufacturer. -
Pleased to see that the performance of my Ampeg SVT-7 PRO in Sunday's amp shootout appears to have generated at least one enquiry for the one listed FS on here. I've kept revisiting the ad and wondering why on earth it's still there! It was getting to the point where I was considering buying it myself as a back-up. I think these are superb amps.

Most kind and generous but it's all under control, honest 😊. When I get a minute, I'll send a PM to the pre-paid no-shows offering them either a refund or FOC entry for next year. I'm pretty sure the latter will be the majority choice.
-
Yes, we broke even with enough left over to pay for the customary post-bash Chinese take-away treat for the event team at our house - provided the few pre-paid DNAs don't ask for their money back 😐
-
Thanks, that's what this is all about.

PENDING Nordstrand Acinonyx v.1 (short scale) £650 - *SOLD*
scrumpymike replied to Kateplaysbass's topic in Basses For Sale
I had the pleasure of playing this bass at our S-W Bass Bash last Sunday and can confirm that it is a delight. If you are into short-scale basses, like the look of this one, and have the necessary cash to spare - don't hesitate to buy! I would have taken it home myself if I'd had the funds available. Btw, Kate bought a bass from me a while back and she's a proper, reliable Basschat-er - or should that be Basschat-euse?! ☺️ -
Fyi, just received a nice email from 'yorks5stringer' Keith's widow, Anna, thanking us for what we've done: "Hi Guys I was just saying to Loren that I hadn't heard from you since Sunday and she let me know that you had emailed us both on her email and she had presumed you had sent it to me too and that I had replied. That is the reason for the late reply. It was very good to hear how it went and just lovely to have a couple of pics and it was very moving to see the t-shirt. Thank you for that. I was thinking of you all, all day. Mickey sent a bass chat link too with all the comments from the Bassists. It sounded like a very successful day for you all including the food. I was surprised to hear that you sold some stuff. It will come in very handy for the things that keep going wrong here and need fixing. So thank you. I have a man here from Totnes, come to see the last of keith's gear. Hopefully he will buy it. Thank you Mike and Gabrielle - it was good to meet you. All good wishes Anna" She also sent me her bank details so I can transfer the £120 we raised from the sale of Keith's stuff. I'll forward them via PM to the couple of Bashers, who told me they had taken items but didn't have cash to pay on the day. Loren is Keith's daughter btw.

Not familiar with this bass so just Googled it to fill the knowledge gap. Among the search results was an amusing FS ad on Reverb from Reverty in Tokyo with the following (forrowing?) headline: Yamaha SBV-500 Electric Bass Guitar Red Frying Samurai Bass. So sad to see that the once noble Samurai are reduced to frying for a living nowadays. Very nice basses btw. -

Agreed, especially because we know it will be good, honest value for money when/if it comes. -
I can answer for Kate on this one. It was an Eastwood Airline Map Bass, so named because the body outline roughly corresponds to the mapped-out shape of the USA IIRC.
