    Snap!

sold mine after 6 months. No regrets.
Replaced by a Ken Smith which got the ergonomics right

With the added benefit that to my ears, and with my KS BT5at least, i can get a very similar tone to Stanley Clarke's sound.

  2. This one... a Groove Shoppe GS5.

The Groove Shoppe were a specialist bass gear retailer based in Long Island, NY, and designed their own basses. I think about 26 or so got made.

Don't have any pictures of my own at the moment, so picture credit to the poster on the TB thread.

I've had it since July 2008.

  3. I listened the Journey To Love quite a lot earlier this year, great record. I love the sound SC gets out of his Alembics, but having played a couple (Europa & Rogue) i suspect they are a little bit of a marmite bass, from a sound and ergonomics perspective.

There was 20th anniversary bass at Bass Bros recently (maybe still there) which i remember seeing reviewed in Guitarist magazine in the late 80s and lusting after it at the time.

  4. Obligatory post. My first "new" amp for quite some time and total overkill for bedroom practice, but YOLO.

Sounds great through the ACME cabs and plenty of tone options.

More present in the mids, and feels better suited to these cabs than my Tecamp Puma 1000 which sounds too polite by comparison. These rarely come up used, as I've learned from past experience, so i didn't hang around this time. Thanks @Mama Huhu for a smooth, easy and honest deal.

A bonus is that my better half hasn't even noticed 😁

I miss my 3x10 ☹️. It’s my one ‘buy it now’ purchase should I ever see one again.

There's one on eBay at the moment

  6. Wal Pro2E for £500, Wal Mach 3 fretless 5er for, i think, £1200.

Should've held on to those 😂

Edit, those are what i bought them for. Sold both for a little more than that, but same ballpark, and nowhere near the crazy prices they are going for today.

Perhaps worth adding that this definitely checks out. I could have done more due diligence but did at least check the serial number.

I doubt this is going to add much / anything useful!

Kudos for matching rug and socks

  8. Bought second hand off ebay probably around 2015 or so. I played with it to make sure it was all working normally, and put it back in the box. Sadly it has stayed there.

£85 is with tracked insured postage which will cost about £10 based on recent experience. If you wanted to collect then, I'll knock off a tenner.

A cursory look on ebay seemed to indicate this is priced below what they are typically selling for on there, but if you feel it's overpriced then please make me a offer :)

You will see in one of the pictures that on the top left hand corner of the unit, there is a small split in the plastic. Pretty sure this was not there when i received it, and that it's happened during the 8/9 years that it's been sitting in a box.

Comes boxed with manual, but there is no external power supply. Requires a standard 9v dc centre negative, or can run on batteries.

Not much else to say other than I hope someone else can get more use out of it than I have 😂

I think that's part of the problem is I'm not sure if I want a 5 or a 6. I have a 5 string currently, a HB with a very similar neck to an Ibanez 5 (and a broken active circuit). So I thought if i had another 5 E-C then I can keep both a low B and high C but then if I just got a 6 instead I would have the best of both on one instrument (that works)
I have seen a Cort C5 in CC I know it's slightly different to the A series, not neck-thru, hipshot hardware etc. But the C5  had the Bartolini MK1's which I like from the sr505 and a decently preamp. How do you find your A6?
I also realised I didn't actually state my budget in the original post but all the ones I listed were between £260-£350 apart from the 806 but that is at a retailer that does 6 months interest free finance so I could just about stretch the extra 2 bills

more thoughts from a sample size of 1 (me), I found transitioning to a 5 string fairly easy, but found trying to navigate a 6th string was a much bigger deal for all sorts of reasons which would have required me putting in a load more work in to adjust my playing technique to get the best out of it, which I wasn't prepared to do. Especially annoying because the 6er I had briefly was a very lovely instrument (MTD 635)

So, a cheap 5er strung E to C is IMO a good starting point for your experiment. Also, if you decided to move it on for whatever reason, I think a 5er would be easier to sell/trade than a 6er.

  10. If you're not sure i would recommend investing in a cheap second hand bass/basses to figure out your preferences.

Edit, also if you want to do more chordal playing, 35" will make it harder, depending on how large your hands are.

24 frets probably better for that upper range, and a 19mm string spacing also would be a physical push. Sounds like youre happy with narrow spacing. and also perhaps avoid multi scale basses too.

I think a used fretted ibanez gwb35 would be a good bet you you can find one.
