1. The SBMM website has now been updated with the new models. Ray34 CA
 2.
Hello! A friend took some video of us at our last gig in O'neils - Liverpool on Sunday, so I thought I'd stick them up here... Bear in mind, this is probably my 6th gig ever and I'm still pretty nervous, I was just trying to keep it solid, no flair whatsoever! Anyone else find it weird seeing yourself on video? I've noticed that I have this horrible smirk on my face most of the time, stand like a right weirdo and make silly facial gestures to people I know in the crowd?! I must smile more!
I also enjoyed those. I do find it quite shocking how bored i look in some of our live videos. I guess i know i am but im always surprised it comes across to the audience as well. Must try harder this year to smile.
 3. Get a SBMM Ray34 classic and save £800
 4.
Sure Dave, the thread I discussed this goes way back when I first modded the Moo- moo and this P Bass. however I got my Fender original P/guard from a private eBay dealer, it was in a sealed Fender branded shrink wrapped packet, you just need to make sure it's a 13 holes one and that matches these specs: Incidentally these people (who I have used before and can recommend to you) could get hold of original Fender parts, so send them an email, see what they say http://www.axesrus.com/AxePlatesBass.html
Thanks very much. I had a look on the Axesrus site and they have them with the same dimensions as in your post for £18 so ill take a chance.
 5. They do seem to sit in the middle but they do have a lot of differences to the HW-one. I cant tell if they are below or above the HW-one as the price is pretty similar. Discussed here New Fenders
 6.
Yes, we've been over this in a previous thread, Squier CV pickguards are cut exactly as the original Fender ones. They fit nice and flush, no extra drilling required. The only problem you might have would be if your truss rod adjustment is at the end of the neck and not on the headstock, in which case you will need to chisel out a small indentation to allow for the screwdriver to access the recessed truss rod slot.
Sorry to go over this again but could you point me to the thread that has discussed this, or could you tell me the exact PG you used. There are many Fender PGs and im assuming its not the MIA one you used as the TR cut out isnt there (like you said). Ive read a few people have put on various Fender PG's only to find the curve up by the jack socket is slightly off and can leave a small gap. I'd love to get a black one but dont want to risk getting the wrong model. The bass is looking great now. Im tempted to get a MM neck at some point as i too would love a maple neck on mine. Cheers.
 7. Bassist with McFly uses Stingrays, you dont get a higher recommendation than that ;-)
 8.
John Deacon was partial to a Stingray for a while and used to record a lot with it. He used the P bass more live for the look.
It was seeing John play a stingray live on tv end of last year that got me interested in the MM tone. And funny enough it was waynes sub that became my first MM.
 9.
I wouldnt put myself down as a number one queen fan although i do stick some on sometimes when doing the hoovering
What, complete with stockings and tight sweater
 10. Maybe we could block book a load of seats and go and support Wayne.
 11. I just liked the tone of the stock pup over the Nordy. In fact I've not had a nordy that I did like. To My ears they sound a bit too bland. Im not saying the SBMM pups are identical to the real deal, but I did like the tone it produced and that's all that mattress really. If I can get a good playable and good sounding bass without breaking the bank so much the better.
 12.
i go to comparethegotoh.com
13.
easier to find
You just follow the strings back from the headstock and there it is sorry.
 14.
I don't see it being any much more expensive than the current ray34. Or is a case it of less is more?
Maybe the high gloss finish on the neck adds a bit to the cost.
 15. Over on talkbass someone posted the estimated price and it's about the same as the current Ray34, maybe about £50 higher but I guess it depends on where you get it from. I put a Nordstrand in my old Ray34 and while it's a nice pup I felt it took some of the character away so this time I'm sticking to the stock pup.

 17. I've now got one on my CV P and i think it looks much nicer than the BAII i have on my HW-one. I cant really hear much of a difference though. Im sure its there but i would think a new set of stings would make more of a difference. Then again, the CV bridge was already a high mass bridge, and in fact its bigger than the Gotoh so i can understand the lack of tonal change.
 18.
It might be my eyes (and the fact that its monday morning) but the AR looks off. Apologies but what is the "AR" lol
Sorry, I mean aspect ratio. You all look a bit tall and thin, or to use the technical term, squashed up.
 19.
I've posted my admiration for your playing before, but now i am wondering what your recording method is for these clips, the mix of your bass over the tune is good, but I still cant believe how great the tone of your bass is just coming through my standard Mac speakers, most clips on you tube don't have a tone like that
From his YT page "I use a Focusrite Saffire 6 USB interface, running into Logic Pro. The video is done in iMovie. The whole thing is done on my crappy old MacBook Pro" I agree, great tone and great playing, but i have a feeling its all in the fingers.
 20. My take is a P sound slike a MW radio station, middy, not really sparkling although enough highs to do the job, and a Jazz (with neck soloed) more FM. deeper lows and brighter highs, but less mid range, like having the contour or loudness button on. FWIW, i have both CV P and Jazz, made out of the same wood, and both sound the same unplugged to my ears.
 21. Lovely. Not really my sort of music but i really enjoyed the tightness and groove.
 22.
Just posted this elsewhere then spotted this thread lol Hope you like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rCPt-3N9ykE
Nice one. I enjoyed that. I also really like your version of Dead Ringer. It might be my eyes (and the fact that its monday morning) but the AR looks off.
 23. As Clarky says, WD will sort you out. One problem (or something to watch out for). If you have a HW1 make sure you get the HW1 pickguard. If you have a HW-one get a MIA pickguard. I waited for almost a month for them to get me a HW-one PG for my Jazz, only for it to turn up as a HW1. It seems they dont know the difference and dont have a HW-one (at least they didn't a few months back). The truss rod adjustment is at different ends of the neck so a HW1 PG will cover the slot on a HW-one. I ended up putting a MIA PG on and its perfect. I cant vouch forthe P pickguards but im pretty certain it will be the same as for the Jazz. Oh, and is my old HW-one with a WD pickguard on it. The photo's dont do it justice but yes, it looks pretty cheap. For something better Sims custom shop will make you one thats a perfect fit, in the colours/finish you want but these dont come cheap IME.
 24.
We played a big wedding in a nice venue that had a sound limiter. Grrrrrr. A quick explanation for those that aren't familiar with this evil invention... you plug all your gear into to specified (in this case red) power sockets which are controlled by a decibel metre. When you go over 90db, BOOM, all the power is turned off. Yeah, really great for your kit! Anyone else had trouble with these? The ambient noise in the place was around 83-84 decibels and this was just with people chatting, kids playing and people walking on a wooden floor! We did our best to be as quiet as we could but the drummer completely unmiked (and he doesn't hit that hard) was hitting 90 db. Thankfully we knew some of the guys at the wedding who kindly shimmied up some rafters and unplugged it after it killed everything during the 4th song. The hole atmosphere of the place just came alive then!
And the venue got hit with a huge fine....nice one ;-) Ive never come across a meter that just cuts you off the moment you hit the limit, you normally have around 7-10 secs or so to get the level out of the red. Dont get me wrong, i hate them as much as anyone but normally the venue has to install these, and can get a very hefty fine or closed down if they dont so its not a good idea to unplug them IME.
 25. There is also a new look SB14 coming out.
