1. I'm not sure what to make of all that but you seem to be happy doing what your doings, as am i so i don't see much difference to be honest, other than the fact that we (my band) have never been, and never wanted to be a pub band (or play pubs) so maybe we bypassed the mediocrity at an early stage. As for social club gigs, thats a very small % of our gigs and we mostly look on them as a bit of a breather from the weddings, a good place to try out new songs and get paid, no real preasure, plus the beer is dirt cheap.
2. Fingers and legs crossed for you Gareth. lets hope this is perfect, it sounds like it will be. I agree about the rosewood/white combo, very classy.
3. Ive just seen the new Plantet waves mini headstock tuner. Looks pretty good for keeping on the bass during the gig. Might give it a go.
4. Its there for me using FF7. Settings/Email & Password.
5. It looks like someone has been sick all over it. fugly to the point of being an abomination in my view.
6. Nice one, cheers.
7. Ped, Are we going to get the fact that email notifications are showing code rather than symbols (like £, %, & etc) fixed?
8.
I recently got a Snark, I really like it. If you want a clip-on tuner I'd definitely recommend one.
And the display looks great IMO. Very easy to see without being too bright.
9. It might be worth talking to the singer about this. If she isnt comfortable either then just text him (joke). Personally i would give him a try. You might then find he really isnt suitable musically, at least that would be a valid reason, he might even agree.
10. I can see the logic with the newer models they keep brining out. How many times do we see people saying "if only it had a maple neck/blocks/etc"? While Fender are just re using parts they are giving us more choice. They arent trying to change the world, just give us more choice.
11. While ive never done it as i dont use effects i imagine its to get more control over the tone. At the default setting you get the clean tone and the effected tone coming out of the speaker. I would imagine some people wont want the clean tone in the mix so changing the jumper will remove that. You would then get out what you put in. Thats how i see it anyway.
12.
I'm sold on anything with maple neck and black blocks and binding
Id love a black PJ with maple neck but dont really go for black blocks on a maple neck. Looks like they have a Squier HM bridge on them, if so im guessing the string spacing will be 20mm so another negative for me.
13. Actually I'm going to retract that last bit about seriousness. That was a bit too much of a blanket statement and I know it's not always the case.
14.
I would`t rise to it, it`s a wind up. Some folk here obviously earn their rent in other ways and can afford to have "integrity" involved in their Classic Rock Covers band. ok.
Thats the thing, i have a full time job so don't need to take all the gigs we get offered but i do them because i enjoy them. When i say i take all the gigs that doesn't mean i get offered loads of crap gigs. We never play pubs but thats mainly because we don't go looking for them, and our agents don't deal with pubs. The social club gigs can be pretty sole destroying if you think you are better than that but if you do feel like that then you wouldn't be doing it in the first place IMO. If some people want to turn down playing, and probably earing money so they can go to the pub instead thats their choice and i do understand that, but those of us that don't aren't any less serious about all this, if anything i feel we are more serious as we are willing to take the good gigs and the bad. Thats how i feel anyway.
15.
Which is cool....! But not an approach that I would be prepared to take...........
So what is your approach?
16.
I'm afraid, my friend, that attitude will ensure that you are doomed to mediocrity!
LOL. Thats just your opinion, which of course you are welcome to. Im happy doing what im doing.
17. Well my girlfriend said time to get to the gym, but buying a larger size seems a bit easier, both on the wallet and the body.
18. Ive still not gone out in my BC Tee-shirt yet. I think ive had it over a year now. I seem to have put a bit of weight on and being orange it sort of shows this off :-(
19.
. And your decor sucks. You need a repaint"
ironside1966 knows a painter who seem quite amicable, give him a call
20.
but I'm firmly of the opinion that if you hire a band with acoustic drums you need to be SURE that your venue/clientele/neighbours will be alright with SPLs of 100dBA +.
...and the band walking out if they dont like, or cant cope with the playing conditions
21. Someone needs a new Caps Lock key ;-)
22.
Some of you must be desperate for gigs
I am, I love gigging and have never personally turned one down. If we are booked to play a venue we assume we are there to entertain someone, other than the person paying. While we might not get on with the boss we feel that if just one person is listening and enjoying it then we are doing a good job, no matter how hard we are struggling (and we do, a lot). Its not all about us, its about playing music for other peoples enjoyment.
23. This should help. Its got both DI and FX loop.
24. Ive been using a Snark (£12) and a Peterson Stroboclip (£65) for the past year and both work perfectly on my basses, guitar and my mates 5 string Squier, even the low B tracks well. Seeing as i only need to check my tuning once per gig i take the Snark, as the Peterson is a bit delicate. Its great for doing setups and checking intonation though.
25.
The way is look at is this, the landlord pays you to do a job just like you would pay someone to paint your house. you wouldn't expect them do what they want. you pay them to paint it how you want it.
But you would probably be paying them because they know what they are doing, or know better than you. You tell them what and where but surely you wouldn't tell them how? A bit of working together would be the best option IMO.
