DR Black Beautie Strings - never again....
dave_bass5 replied to intime-nick's topic in Accessories and Misc
I don't see that you are helping, you just sound like you have a bee in you're bonnet and need to sound off about it. The DR strings have a certain tone, look and feel. How is recommending a completely different string, and slating the DR's off to those who use them helping? I personally don't care for your opinion or attitude, ( and I expect that's mutual )but you are of course welcome to express it. -
DR Black Beautie Strings - never again....

This thread isnt about what stings to use, it's about DR's. They aren't hyped crap, and many people love them. -
Careful now! I started by buying a Focusrite 2i2 in order to email basslines to the rest of the band. Then I started to play with the free Ableton that came with it. Then I entered a daft ditty into the Basschat composition challenge. Now I'm going to buy a keyboard and a full Ableton
Sort of what happened to me. I use my PC as my home rig for rehearsing etc, and I got a 2i2 to replace an ageing M-Audio 2496 card (after seeing how good USB audio interfaces are these days with my B3). First thing i did after getting it up and running was to buy a Midi lead and hook up my old Korg 5N. 3 days before i even plugged a bass in. Previously i hadn't played keyboards for almost 10 years. I do prefer Sonar to Ableton though, but mainly as i know my way around it.

I'd go for the B3, as its easier to turn 3 effects on and off if needed. With the 60B its a bit trickier, or at least thats what ive found.

I've got the same cab and have been thinking about getting something more traditional sounding (not selling the 1212L though). Can I ask what Berg you got and how you find it as a replacement to the 2212L Cheers, and good luck with the sale. You don't see many of these come up on here, and considering what they cost new (are they still made?) this is a real bargain.

Same here. I had an original one when they first came out, and it was fantastic, but no way was it any better than a lot of other basses ive had over the years, my CV and VM Squeirs included. £200 back then was a steal, but now there are so many better, and cheaper alternatives to the overpriced ones that im surprised anyone buys them now.

My PJ set just arrived from the USA. Ill try and install them tonight but first impressions are, the packaging is very good, and they look very classy. The instructions seem very clear and easy to follow and its an all solder-less connection, and everything is included. Ive got a new PG for the bass, so planing on mounting as much as i can on that before starting work on the bass itself. I'd say the hardest part will be getting all the old bits out. All in they cost me £106, inc customs duty etc. I can see a Fralin going to a new home soon if things work out.
I've got two Squiers so I'm halfway to a Fender...
Ive got three Squiers and as well as being quids in i feel im past Fender quality now :-) I dont get the Fender bashing on here. I thought we are above all that. If more people use them it stands to reason they get mentioned more. Seeing as the first post has been changed (same time the dummy was throuwn out by the looks of it) i have no idea what this thread is about, but it seems to involve a few digs at Fender. Quite childish really.

Cab sim is part of the amp sim. You can download the manual and have a read of that, might help with any other questions.
-
No. An amp sim counts as one FX slot.
I played Wazoo's one at my place. Awesome! That is lovely Kev.
I played Wazzos many, at his place and at a gig

anybody else find jam sessions boring?
dave_bass5 replied to PaulWarning's topic in General Discussion
I just don't get jamming, doing some turnaround bass line over and over while some guitarist thinks he's Eric Clapton, it must be even worse for anybody that actually has to listen to it. Mind you I come from the school of thought that says "if you can't say what you want to say in 3 minutes, you're saying too much"
Ive never played at one, but have been in a few pubs where there is a jam going on. Im sure its not the norm everywhere but it seems to me all you have to do is play blues all night long. At least, this is all ive witnessed so far. Im sure they are fun if you like that sort of thing though. -
you can also turn off, or balance the cab sims as well.
Let me know how they turn out man. I'm really tempted to go for the single P in my Lakland, not that I don't already love the Lindy fralin, just something different.
Ill be sure to post my findings, probably in the GBZ EMG thread on here. For anyone who wants more info, and some real clips have a look here on Talkbass http://www.talkbass.com/threads/geezer-butler-signature-pick-ups.1046730/ The new P will be replacing a Fralin that i already have in my PJ. Ive always thought i loved the Fralin but recently im not getting on with it. I was going to put a Fender 62RI in it (its in my Squier CV at the moment) but when i heard the sound clips over on Talk Bass i was very impressed. Im not after the Geezer tone at all, but they do sound a bit clearer than the Fender 62, and i find the Fralin is very close to that. Should be here by 8th May, if not sooner.

I love the look of this bass but im with most on the inlay's issue. Ive just ordered a set of the PJ Geezer pups. Ive heard a few sound clips and they sound very interesting.

Maybe Bruce was being influenced by John Taylor during that period :-)

I've stopped using my B3 since getting a 60B. As good as the B3 is of live use ive just come to realise I don't need various effects that get switched on and off. I use the 60B as a kind of rack unit and it just sits on my amp. Comp/BDDI/Exciter all on, and for the last slot I'll have a Chorus programmed in, although I rarely turn it on. I'm not sure how usable the amp sims are live. They sound good to me, and I use them at home via headphones, but I'm sure most of us would be going through an amp anyway at gigs., so it defeats the object of having an accurate amp sim IMO.

Get a PJ bass, put rounds on it, and use some foam under the strings near the bridge for the older stuff. Not 100% authentic but some of the Motown tone can be down to the way it was recorded and played, not just the instrument. Get the playing right and most basses will fit right in.
