  3. So you've got £20 and you want a fish supper. You've found exactly what you're looking for... Cod and chips for... £19.95 It's being sold by a reputable chippy Would you buy this classic British dish, holding it, wrapped in newspaper, actually eating it with one of those wooden FORKS! This is just my pickled onion. 👉DO IT 👈 !!!! Granted, I would rather it was rock eel than cod and I realise my 5p change isn't quite enough to buy some mushy peas, but yes, no matter the price, because I like a few chips and a nice bit of cod, why not? You only live once. £19.95 Reasonable at half the price and if I'm not mistaken, after the opening speech by the Vicar, I think there's a tombola, or maybe it's a raffle? I really shouldn't have had that second sherry. That's almost certainly a fine way to spend a Saturday afternoon at the Letcombe Regis village fête Again just my pickled onion .
  4. i did exactly this with a 90s thrash band I was in. We got back together 23 years later and did one gig. All our old punters came and we sold the venue out, played a blinder, had a gas, got paid and got it all on video for the Grandkids. Now, the important thing is not to take that one excellent evening and extrapolate that out into a fantasy of reforming, touring again or anything else, just do one night, hopefully smash it and then go back to tending your herbaceous border, if you let the event ignite your egos then you've had it.

  6. Another vote here for King Rocker, sublime. I believe my learned friend is referring to Bros: After the Screaming Stops, I watched this when it was first aired in 2018 and posted about it during transmission... ...I was kind of half way through doubled over with laughter when I realised the absolute tragedy of the poor twins delusion. Complete car crash viewing.

  10. I play a fretless acoustic bass but had similar requirements as you. I try to get the fretless sounding as much like a double bass as possible. Both my fretted and fretless basses have piezo pickups so, again, I was in a very similar position to you. This depends on how much tone shaping you require. I have owned the Fishman Platinum Pro twice, it was lovely. The on-board compressor was particularly useful. If you want a cheap, reasonable pre then the Fishman PP is a good choice. Noticeably inferior unit to the Fishman PP IMHO I used the Fishman with several types of amp and it was fine with all of them. Unfortunately I was trying to avoid the baked in 'colour' of the amps EQ. In the end I went for a QSC K12.2, an FRFR powered speaker cabinet which was perfect for me. The last trad amp I used before going FRFR was an AER Basic Performer. I've just seen one on reverb for £599, I know it's a bit above your budget but if you can find one and afford it, it's the perfect set up. Once I bought one I noticed loads of double bassists using them at small and large gigs. Both the QSC and the AER coped with the piezo basses going straight in without a pre. I would say the advantage of an FRFR powered speaker is that you don't need a pre. Playing a double bass through any amp will colour the sound so you never really know what the uncoloured sound of the bass really is. When I plugged my fretless acoustic into the QSC at the shop to try out I was blown away. The QSC has a 'bass amp' EQ preset but I just leave it on 'Default'. If I had to play just plugged into the QSC I'd be perfectly happy, in all honesty I just go through a Grace Design Felix because I'm a tart.
