I have the money to buy either so that isn't a factor - or given the number of forum members who have recently bought the K12.2 merely wait a couple of months until they start flooding the BC marketplace?

I don’t think that’s going to happen, having just gone over to using a K12.2 myself I get the distinct feeling it’s a a one way street once you’re converted.

Frank I love your convert's zeal! But have you seen what @Bridgehousehas recently dragged in with the cats? He is single handedly (well with both hands and a fork lift truck) rescuing rock n roll. Just in time for Christmas 😀

As I was typing it I was (genuinely) thinking I’m becoming a bit of a pain in the behind convert zealot, although this is an ideal time to go FRFR I also think it’s possibly time for me to shut up about it. I haven’t seen his latest acquisition but heading over now.

That was exactly what I was thinking.  I definitely don't want more gain, just volume.  Really appreciate the advice and I guess I will stick to plan A and keep on looking for a new amp!!!  :)

You do realise this is your chance to change your bass life forever and move over to an FRFR solution?

Oh my god, it has a look that reminds me of 70s furniture, and I mean that in that’s the highest aesthetic praise I could possibly give to an object. That is my idea of a thing of absolute beauty...

    Oooh, now you've done it.

I know it's all subjective, but I was lucky enough to see them several times before they became the immaculately groomed and coiffured playthings of Simon Napier-Bell and they were insanely good, brilliant even.  Those first two albums (and the Live In Japan EP) are still in regular rotation in our house.  I may listen to Obscure Alternatives again this evening now...

Oddly enough, being a huge Japan fan, I’m a huge Polaroids onwards Japan fan, I’m not that fond of Quiet Life and haven’t heard any pre-Quiet Life output.

Simple Minds and U2 spring to mind. The albums from both bands before they started playing stadiums had more urgency and were less overblown to my my ears, New Gold Dream/Sparkle In The Rain and Boy/War were high water marks for me.

Empires and Dance by Simple minds is a great album, I’m not bothered after that really.

How do you like the Fishman? I'm thinking about getting one for gigs where we go all in-ear/no backline...

I can’t fault it, mind you I use it for acoustic bass only but I’d say it was ideal for the scenario you describe.

Many will say Public Image Ltd never bettered their first two albums, `Public Image` and `Metal Box`, the latter is stunning. Maybe a slide down in quality since, although 1986s 'Album' is great, features Steve Vai and Ginger Baker. The revolving door of members started with various drummers on `Metal Box`. They've now had around 40 odd members. The current line-up are bloody fantastic live, mind you.

I totally agree, Metal Box is my top album of all time.

I think the OP meant only in terms of band line-up changes?   In which case if the The Skids were the mark 1 Big Country, I'd include them

I loved aThe Skids but despised Big Country and I’m always surprised that the latter are held in such high esteem, am I missing something?

I saw Genesis at Eel Pie Island, Twickenham, playing mostly acoustic guitars, with (I think...) Phil Collins on drums. Well before it all 'took off'; they were excellent. I saw them several times, later, with the Gabriel theatrics 'n all, too; stunning stuff. Can't say for the post-Gabriel shows, but no regrets for having missed 'em.

Post-Gabriel Genesis, dreadful. The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway is my favourite prog album ever.

A recent re-run of a christmas edition of TOTP on BBC4  featured the Human League miming Don't You Want Me Baby. I've never really cared for the mark 2 line-up, mainly because of the cr@p vocals of the 2 girls. Definitely prefer the more experimental line-up of the original band.

Great call, those first two Human League albums, Reproduction and Travelogue are two of my favourite albums of all time, I totally agree, MK2 Human League? Pfffftttt.

The Cult... Dreamtime is my all-time favourite album, Love was different but still a belter, Electric...well I played it twice and have never bought a record of theirs since

Ian Astbury was always a c*** (not Cult) in waiting, having said that Wild Flower and Lil’ Devil are good tracks imho, I think I’m right in saying that Rick Rubin made them play direct into their amps without effects on Electric and I find that pure sound is rather fresh and invigorating, however, Astbury becoming an LA rock god overnight was sickening. Fire Woman from their next album, Sonic Temple, is also a bit of a hard rock classic, however I’d throw all those tracks in the bin in order to listen to Ressurection Joe, so, essentially, I’m agreeing with you. I saw their first iteration Southern Death Cult and their second as Death Cult and they were already showing signs of the tossers they were to become. In summary, I agree.

I think as the FRFR thread has progressed it has been the 12.2 that I found I kept coming back to even though I'd love the budget for the RCF NX45. The 12.2 seems to be in better reach.

Then I saw this post (Sorry if you're not on instagram)

Deal sealed if the above wasn't enough to go on!! Great work Basschat. This is why I love this forum :)

I agree totally, we are in good company there!

Seeing the Rob Allen Mouse is a somewhat specialist bass, and because you’ve stuck that picture there, how does it sound with the Ibanez?

It sounds great, you really get the feeling you are hearing how each bass actually sounds for the first time, the Ibanez was quieter than the mouse but bright and with far more articulation than I have heard before and that was with the on board eq flat and the pre flat too. With the SRC6s board eq and the Fishman... *head explodes*
