The bass was purchased brand new from a dealer as part of an exchange for other musical equipment. I already have a top end Jazz so this is surplus to my requirements, it is a bargain for someone who likes a quality built Jazz. These have a wonderful rich tone. the neck feels fantastic, very skinny!! and nice rounded edges, solid Jazz through and through. i still have the shipping box. I would trade for nice P bass, let me know what you have. cheers What Fender say : A modern reproduction of a bass that helped define modern music. Fender based the American Vintage Series on actual vintage instruments from their past, to bring you a period-correct '64 J Bass that plays like a modern classic. From the classic body shape and tone woods to the "ash tray" cover, this bass screams vintage. The slimmer C-shaped neck and laminated-rosewood fretboard ensure authentic feel and vibe. Newly designed American Vintage pickups give you the bold, and sought-after, tone of the original. For pure, unadulterated '60s J bass vibe, pick up Fender's American Vintage '64 Jazz Bass. With today's American Vintage basses, Fender has gone back to the drawing board with new features, new specs and the most fanatical level of vintage accuracy yet. They've restored original tooling dies, voiced new pickups, reformulated vintage colors, and more - based on actual vintage instruments. The Fender American Vintage '64 Jazz Bass sports a slimmer C-shaped maple neck and a rounded-rosewood laminate fretboard. Fender moved away from the "slab" style of fingerboards in 1962. £950 cash price, trades wise looking for a a nice Precision Bass or similar . 11. Having used the Bass for 5 weeks now i just love this bass, i know most folks will be comparing it with MIJ or MIM version and rightly so, i have the MIM version as well as this USA version. my view is this bass if far superior in tone there is a smoothness and warmth the other versions lack, also the neck on this usa version is just fantastic to play as soon as you touch it and play it you know you are dealing with a quality instrument, the tuners are far superior also, they just are you can feel it when you use them they are also reverse, the fret work on the usa version is very high quality the binding on the neck covers the fret ends the neck edges are rounded no sharp edges here !! The Mexican version could do better on this the frets are quite sharp feeling on these versions but it is understandable working to a budget on an excellent bass. now probably the biggest impact on sound quality differences are these pickups which are American vintage custom voiced and were made to sound like Mr Lee's own pickups, and you can hear that , they are beefy, warm, rich and just Growl !!! the Alder used on the body was a selected Alder not any old chunk of wood, the neck/body joint is just spot on, both versions use the new Geddy Lee hi mass bridge which is very like the old badass II, only they have refined that too smooth edges, made from nickel, looking at the entire package you are buying a quality Bass Guitar, you just are, the outstanding neck, the pickups, the construction the finish quality, the playability, the sound, it is all there and a fantastic high quality Fender moulded case with locks. I must admit i found the neck very wide at the body end for me as i am used to Rickenbacker basses, it was a struggle at first for me and i worked with it and got used to it so it is a keeper for me so glad i splashed the cash on it, try one that is set up properly, you will see what i mean when you play it.
12. ? Don't get you Thunderpaws.
13. No Longer for sale, it is a keeper. can't part with this. It is just too good a bass.
14. lol tis true, i was fine until that 73 4001 came up !!!! the thing is the Geddy is a supreme bass it just is, but, if it is a ric or fender it will be a ric every time with me.
15. This is one bass i don't want to sell but a 73 Rickernbacker 4001 has come up for grabs and that is my first love, even still i am having second thoughts there is something about that usa Geddy that is hard to explain. so it may just be staying put see how i can deal with my GAS for that 73.

20. My month old Geddy Lee usa Jazz, just loving it.
21. Indeed just shows how different people approach the bass, that is what makes it such a great instrument to play.

23. The more i play the USA Geddy the more i like it, i put Elixir 45-105's on it and it just sounds awesome, i have a mim version coming tomorrow be interesting to compare both models, the only thing you have to watch on the usa Geddy is the pickup height if you raise the pickups too high it will knock the E string out , it will not intonate !!!! the magnets have such a pull on the large E string it knocks the note out at the 12th fret, just something to watch it drove me mad at first as i couldn't understand why the 12th fret was out , i must admit i did raise the pickups to full height at first, but no need to do so , again that is a must on a ric , not so for a jazz bass, in all my years of playing i have never enjoyed playing a particular bass as much as this Geddy, if you have a chance to own one just grab it, it is that good.
24. Hi P, great question and observation buddy, I have played Rics since 1979 !!!! it is a bass i have just gotten used to playing and i kind of feel at home playing one, and i like the sound so much !! as to the GL usa Jazz, I love this bass i really do there is something really right about it the neck has that better feel to it and the overall bass just oozes quality to me and the sound is awesome, it really is to be honest i couldn't care if Ged's signature was on it or not, it is a quality bass that is really what counts to me as a player, everything is top notch on this instrument, from the tuners to the body wood, i found it difficult to play at first as the neck widen's as it nears the body end and it is wide to me , that is the great thing about the 4003 to me the neck always feels the same no matter where you are on it !! but i have gotten used to the neck on the Geddy and it is such a good bass to play honestly, i am sure the guys that own the bass will confirm this, put it this way i have barely picked any of my rics up since having this bass, that says a lot to me as i always have a ric on no matter what i am doing. i can't recommend this bass enough, i was over in Las Vegas and i tried all sorts of basses, none came near the tone of the usa Geddy, it is expensive to buy in the uk, but if you like that kind of edgy tone and look of the bass it is hard to beat .
