2. I could be interested - I pm'd a couple of questions about location and condition.
3. I'm forming a new cover band to plays pubs and the odd function and I could do with a good bass player. pm me if you might be interested or know someone that might be...
4.
I very recently experienced problems with a TC Electronic BG250 DI out. So I am ruling out the TC electronic BG550 (and any amp without groundlift on the DI out)
I've still got a bg250 combo on my maybe list - what was the problem with the DI?
5. It's a shame I'm not a fan of the looks of the 5 strings - still very tempted to grab a 70's blonde though. If they are playable that's amazing value!

7. I saw they have the free extra cab offer on the website with bh500 last week. Are they doing it with any other models? (I can't see any more) Could be they are trying to clear out some of the bh500 to make way for the new models. I've been tempted to buy one and then sell the extra cab to give a bh500 + bc212 for around 350-400 depending how much i got for the cab. However I'm more likely to keep it and end up having spent more than I planned so I paused...

9. If you were closer, I'd grab that - I had one (maybe a mk1 though), great amp and sounded great gigging it.
10. HI, I sent you a pm about the cab on FB - I'm guessing it didn't arrive, I'll pm you now.
11.
Assuming thats a 100w 5153 I'd classify that and a twin running with master at 6 as well towards the pretty-damn-loud end of the spectrum. The 250w starting point is probably sensible, but I guess the question to ask yourself is what you'll do if the 250w combo isn't loud enough - the TC combos won't take an extension cab so you're at your maximum the day you buy it, whereas one of the amps or combos which do 250w+ into 8ohms (e.g the 500w+ amps, as all manufacturers brand things for their absolute-maximum-into-4ohms ratings) future-proof you to a point, as you can add another speaker for more cone area and more power if you need it.
Good advice - thanks, just confirms it that although a dinky bh250 would be nice I should get something more future proof. If I see a cab I'll probably jump on the tonehammer 350 or LM2.
12. Just to clarify - I know it's really hard to describe and compare volume of bands - I usually gig playing guitar and use a fender twin or an evh 5153. Either of those amps are usually on 6 (out of 10) and the drummers I play with don't need to be mic'ed up for volume in a typcial pub gig. That said usually there would be Pa reinforcement to help spread the sound. I remember using 250W or so peavey and trace amp and having plenty of volume. I'd like something more modern and lighter (and smaller perhaps) so I figured the same sort of power (250 or more) could get there, hence thinking something like a bh250 1x15 would be fine but then I read so many reports saying they aren't up to it and are better used as a home practise amp that I thought I'd see what people who are out gigging with loud drummers think. Hopefully something nice will appear in the classified soon
13.
IMHO this discounts anything less than 500w into 4ohms and most combos, e.g most of your list. Yes, a LM (or similar 500w head) and and a 4ohm 2x12 or 4x10 would do the job nicely IME.
Thanks for the replies, but the bh500 and aguilar 350, iamp800 aren't up to gigging? I'm only talkng pubs really but I don't want to buy twice if you know what I mean.
14. Apologies for yet another which amp to buy thread, but I'm going round in circles trying to decide... I just want something a bit different from the old peavey/trace type gear I used to use many years ago. Must be loud enough to cope with hard hitting drummers and rock guitars - here's the list of amps I've thought about - I'd really appreciate any comments from people who've gigged them. I don't really want to spend more than 400 and 300 would be even better (if I come across a used one) TC bh250 1x15/2x10 combo +1 compact, toneprint - no extension cab so volume worries. TC BH500 + 2x12 (with free 2x12 offer at andertons so I could sell the free cab to get it in budget) Aguilar tone hammer 350 (and a cheap used cab - if I can find one) I did see a GK mb 212 but the seller won't post or allow collection so that's out but how about the powered cab 212MBP I've seen one for 400 so a preamp pedal might make this workable. Euphonic Audio iamp 800 (again I'd need to find a cheap cab) Mark Bass lm2 in the classified here would definitely work ok but are they loud enough (and yet again I need to find a cab) I set out thinking I might find a combo but I keep seeing nice heads - if I saw a cab, then the aguilar is leading the way at the moment but I'd love to hear any comments on the amps I've mentioned or any others I should look at.
15.
I seem to remember one of the reasons was to do with cost... a PA cab suitable for electric bass (that is not used with a sub) needs to be well-designed and well-built and obviously this tends to make them very expensive... Also, I like the sound that my bass cab makes. Obviously it's somewhat coloured compared to the transparency of a decent PA cab, through which you could have whatever pre-ampery and FX you desired I suppose, but horses for courses and all that. But then wouldn't you need to mount the PA cab on a pole? And wouldn't it fire way out into the room, leaving you a bit under-represented on the monitoring front? Would you not then need a wedge or small cab or IEMs to hear yourself?
Well the cost isn't an issue - I have several pa cabs vs buying a bass amp so it's a cheaper temp solution - tone hammer pedal for around 150 into the cab vs 400 for the amp and still need some cabs. My cabs can be used as stage monitors so they would sit near me and I'll di into the main pa just like I would from any amp I buy. What I want to avoid is buying a pedal only to find it all sounds wrong on stage and I should have just bought an amp. I guess the low cost expt is the behringer bdi pedal ;-)
16.
I played through a Wharfdale active PA cab for a while. It sounded fantastic. The only thing we had to be careful of was overheating. The amps work harder to push low frequencies out and if the cooling system isn't up to the job then things can get toasty.
Thanks - mind if I ask what preamp you were using? I've just added the aguilar tone hammer pedal to the list of options - I like the look of the amp head and the di pedal might be an option.
17. Thanks - interesting thinking about transients and freq range - I can see that they don't go super deep without subs but using them as the FoH PA, would often have some bass guitar going through them - I figure they should sound ok and just need to be powerful enough and with the right preamp they might sound ok. I guess I'm curious if anyone has used a tech21 di or a valvedrive into the PA and how it sounded.
18. Apologies if that has been discussed, the search wasn't bringing up any threads... While I'm looking for an amp, I had the idea of getting a preamp pedal and running into an active cab. I've got four db opera 415 cabs that I aren't using at the moment so I was thinking about either the tech21 bass di pedal or an ebs valvedrive to run into one (or two). Has anyone tried something similar and had successful results or should I just hold out for the right amp?
19. I used to have some custom moulded but they disappeared somewhere along the way (made a mistake of ordering clear ones) How have you found the moulding your own? It looks easy enough and most reviews are positive so I'm tempted to try it.

21. I use a google calendar and nag at people to put when they are available or busy. In practise there always seems to be a technophobe in every band who forgets/can't be bothered but if most people use it then it saves a bit of time and helps keep things organised... I haven't come across anything that would also send emails but I suspect the same people who can't update the calendar would also not read those emails ;-)
