How over budget does a Fender Kingman go? Cause if it's not too over the price we might be able to stretch if we save a bit longer

So loving all this love for lady basses. There's just something about a woman with a bass that I'm a sucker for. -
My husband is after an electro acoustic bass. He's more of a guitar player than bassist but he does play both. Any recs on something that's decent but within the 200-250 price range? Can't really afford to go too expensive but he's been after one for quite a while and doesn't know where to start. Cheers lovelies!
I'm glad to see there's been some love shown for Suzi Q and Grog on here. It's also nice to have some shout outs for Simone from Primal Scream and Divinity tok. In the main though, I'm going for-perhaps predictably-Kim Deal, Kim Shattuck and Paz Lenchantin(I LOVE The Pixies, so it has to be done!); Kim Gordon and-and I'm a bit surprised she's not been mentioned yet, but I'm very glad to do so!-Jenny Lee Lindberg!
Pixies are amazing. I love the simplicity of Kim's bass riffs -

Loud guitarist under control - at last!

Sounds a bit like the singer/guitarist in my sisters old band. He used to turn his amps up and turn theirs down so you couldn't hear her playing piano, my voice was drowned out completely [wasn't actually in the band, just did backing vocals occasionally] and there was no bloody point having a bass player, you couldn't hear him! At least problem is solved with your guitarist though Hers just got comeuppance when he went too loud and blew his amp mid gig. Divvy. -
For me I gotta say, Melissa Auf der Maur, Jackie Fox & of course the queen herself, Kim Deal. And yourselves?

*waves* hiiiii!!!!

My head is automatically bobbing to the bass riff. By that logic, this is not at all bad.... I only head bob to good stuff. Nice one!
Should have kept my Jaydee MK11 and the MM Ray which I sold to Sshorepunk - didn't realise how much better it was than the newer ones. At least with the Jaydee it went to somebody who appreciates it. No regrets whatsoever about selling my Hohner Cricket Bat back in the 80s - good only for use on an open fireplace, weedy sound, garbage EMG "Select" pickups - bought only because I saw a picture of Sly & Robbie with one (Mr Shakespeare obviously had the Steinberger). Never been impressed with any Fender I've ever owned hence why I shy away from them now.
Not just me that doesn't like Fenders I see.. -

I got rid of a gorgeous Vintage bass cause it was active and regretted it. It was gorgeous but me being me didn't think to just have it switched to passive and sold it. Damn. -

I'm not massive on drop D tuning but a lot of the songs I like to play are. Can never be arsed tuning then re-tuning so I just tend to keep one bass in standard and one in drop d. Not sure how fiddly it would be to keep swapping during live gigs though.
Iconic bass line. Nothing to write home about technically, but it is just perfect
Simple and awesome. Simple and awesome is one of the reasons I like Kim Deal/Pixies bass riffs. Really simple but really catchy, great when you're just starting or learning from scratch.
The first thing i learned on the bass was Money by Pink Floyd and it has never left me.....nice and slow too :-)
Haha yeah, one of the ones I used to play loads.
Yep ! You seem to have a good approach to (re)learning, i.e. practice slowly until the brain and fingers "get the message". The speed in the fingers/hands will come of their own accord in time. As for the fingers being stiff, do a search on You Tube for clips on hand stretches for bass/guitar. Best of luck with it.
Thank you My fingers do tend to loosen after a while but not entirely. The difficulty I have in regards to that is, I have cerebral palsy. So the stiffness is partially due to being rusty, partially down to weakness of muscle. I still get there eventually but it can take me a little longer than it generally would someone without CP if that makes sense? Funnily enough though, my physiotherapist actually praised me for playing and told me to keep it up cause it's actually good physio for muscle stiffness and hand/eye coordination. Badass physiotherapy if you ask me!

What are you listening to right now?
Pixiechick23 replied to Sarah5string's topic in General Discussion
At the minute, the cat snoring lol. However I currently find myself flitting between Sia's Eye of the Needle & Jack White's Lazaretto & That Black Bat Licorice. Or RATM's Killing in the Name. I've just been bouncing between those songs in particular lately. -
Seriously, playing stuff at a slow (but steady) pace is a great practice discipline. If you just blast through a tune, you are probably making mistakes that you don't even realise, and reinforcing bad habits. Play slowly with a metronome or a drum machine and your playing can only benefit.
Yay for good habits! I tend to just go over the same bits slowly over and over til I think I've at least almost got it, then move on to the other bits of the song. My memory can be a little crappy so I just find it easier to repeat things in small chunks. My hands are a little stiff too, kinda contributes to the speed of playing but I do tend to find the more often I do it I get a little faster each time. I'm just chuffed I actually remembered the stuff tbh, it's been a good 8 years since I've played it.

Playing around and pleased to discover I can still play a few tracks I'd learned when I was younger. Mainly, The Pixies, Where is my Mind? & Gigantic, Velvet Revolver's Slither, & Pearl Jam's Jeremy. Nothing spectacular and I'm actually playing them at the pace of a snail & bar the Pixies tracks can't actually play all the way through yet but still, hurrah for not entirely forgetting them! [Ok, I 'fess, I checked the tabs once or twice first.]
-
Of course! Won't be starting for a while yet cause I've got to get the money for the paints and stuff, crappy bills and all that jazz first. But I figured why not get the guitar while it's there nice and cheap? Should be fun! Could also be a complete disaster but eh, that's why we practice on cheapies first, right?
-
I want to paint the Ibanez bass I bought but I've never painted a guitar in my life so I just bought a cheapie classical acoustic at a boot sale to have a go on. Plan is to practice on this, then do the same with some other cheapie electric guitars from ebay, cash converters or whatever, Argos, the crappy guitars that nobody buys lol. Then once I'm confident enough and definitely know what I want to go for with the Ibanez I'm gonna paint that. Let's see how this goes shall we?

I was semi tempted but at the same time I kinda want to marble it with purple metallic paint.

You might not necessarily find one but keep a lookout in local secondhand shops too. My husband narrowly [sadly] missed out on his Punisher bass for 30 quid in a Cash Converters the other day.
