1. The expensive MECs are filled with epoxy, the cheap ones in the RBs have removable covers, as far as I can tell, and certainly true of the MEC pups I've had.
 2.
Might be late now, but useful to know in future, MAPLIN
I saw that the other day, but just realised it's a neutrik! For £2.29! I got my Switchcraft from RS for about £13 + £4.95 next day delivery, and there's a Maplins not far from me. That will teach me to read more closely, I assusmed it would be a piece of Maplin junk.
 3.
Phil Simmonds. Just out of interest though-the guys in the video are different from the guys who I've usually seen her with. I'm guessing that's her US band. I've got to be honest,I'm pretty impartial about Jessie J. I think she's better than your Winehouses and Adeles, but not as good as your Gagas and Aguileras. I wouldn't but her album, but I won't turn the radio off either.
Fella, you are comparing apples with carpet tiles. All these artists are wholly different from eachother. You might aswell have chucked Kate Bush and Nina Simone in there too.
 4.
It's part of the job- heat, kitchen, you get the idea. Can't stand her either- I mean in an interview she was whining on about how she has to pay £4 million in tax. Sorry, but if you're earning enough money to have that kind of tax bill then you have NOTHING to complain about. Especially since now you have enough money to go record your next album in a place that doesn't have those kind of tax bills and make a hell of a lot more profit.
Edward 'Hard as Fackin Nails' Himself.
 5. I'm getting excited about this gig now, only a few days away, and we should be previewing the video for the single too. Hope some of you can make it.
 6. I know a good number of young teenagers who are heavily into Led Zep and Rush, but like young current bands too.
 7.
For what it's worth, I'm 17 and a fair share of the bands I listen to feature middle-aged/older folk, so keep going guys! Either way, play music for the music - if it gets you somewhere then it's a nice bonus.
I concur with the above two posts, nice one Ben
 8.
sigh Slid I`m not sure I can be arsed with you today. I`m in quite a good mood. Tell you what, I`ll settle for a " In my opinion" which I thought I`d already made clear. Then none of it has to be true.
I'm not in anyway having a go at you mate. It's just not true, that's all. I know plenty of kids who like music played by older bands and who don't like music played by their own age group. There are plenty of solo pop artists who are very young but backed by older players, Jessie J for instance.
 9.
"Making it" is a meaningless term unless you can define it more precisely, but you can`t because it has a different face for everyone. Also, a 40something musician in an originals band aimed at selling music to 20 year olds will certainly struggle as image is a massive part of why 20 year olds buy anything, but if you are aiming to sell to 35 to 60 year olds then you are prime. Jazz and blues musicians don`t seem to get any respect till they hit 50 anyway... The upper age of music consumption has in my opinion massively expanded and along with fashionable clothes is enjoyed by people who 20 years ago would be in zip up boots and furry hats with a tartan food trolley listening to radio 2. In Bournemouth. Garbage had the benefit of Butch Vig`s considerable production expertise from his work with Smashing Pumpkins and Nirvana and by making Shirley Manson the focal point of their promotion in very bling and wacky videos convinced youngsters they were cool enough for school. It also helped that he`s married to a Dreamworks A+R executive. My definition of "making it" is to earn enough income from musical activities to support myself without too much hassle from the powers that be. I consider there to be no age limit on that.
None of that is true mate.
 10.
Only in their 40s? They lack ambition and drive. Today I'm 51. My current originals band is doing fantastically and is close to achieving more then any of my previous bands of the last 35 years. These days the only people who really care how old you are if your playing original music are becoming less and less relevant in the grand scheme of musical things. Our audience covers a massive age range from teenagers to people with at least a decade on me, but they all like the band because they enjoy the music and we're entertaining. Of course it helps that don't really look my age, have enough hair to still have a hair style and know how to dress in a stylish and appropriate manner for the band without being told. Having a strong visual identity always helps - it's not just about the music and anyone who thinks it is, is going to be disappointed.
This exactly, except that I'm 47.
 11.
You get golds and silvers. The circuitry is f***ing expensive! £400 odd for some of the MEC circuitry, sheer madness!
The Rock bass passive silvers I have were ace with a John East U-Retro

 13. Gareth, watch how she will get slagged off on here now she has some success. Once success is achieved, regardless of talent and credibility or whether she is a very nice person, the artist is a machine immune to hurtful comments and criticism, and the fact her bassist is a respected bass chat member don't mean sh*t.
 14. Cheers Dom. Great to meet you. I got a new tyre put on yesterday so I'm cool. I LOVE the Streamer! Thanks so much for delivering her. Hope you're enjoying your new Sadowsky! Time for a new avatar mate
 15.
Hey Nige, if by any chance it doesn't arrive in time, I can lend you one of my basses mate
That's so kind mate, thank you! It should arrive tomorrow and I have a backup bass if it doesn't. Thanks again, Clarky, I really appreciate that.
 16.
Hey guys - i know this thread has been a million times but would be nice to get some personal advice. I've been playing in my current band for ages. But we only starting gigging about a year ago. The singer/guitarist/synth player said he wanted a change and he wasnt enjoying it etc. So we took a break in June, got a new singer and planned a different style. We've rijigged one song and its sounding decent and interesting. But now everytime we try and get something together (a simple practice) but now the guitarist is saying he can't afford practice because of his new flat. This is odd to me since he's paying sod all mortgage (compared to me) and i still made gigs/practice when i got my place. But it just seems he's not wanting to do this now.. His girlfriend is also causing issues - says she hates the band because we take him away from her (bunny boiler much?) so we're thinking shes finally got to him. If Foxdie's dead in the water i'd probs sell 90% of my stuff and do a less fx'y band Anyone got any thoughts?
Get a new guitarist.
 17. I downloaded an hour long MP3 recording of a rain and thunder storm. I have it in my headphones while travelling and reading (Moby Dick at the moment) and it is both relaxing, stimulating, and blocks out the noise of other human activity around me. It bloody fantastic.
 18.
WAL use Switchcraft so they are probably one of the best. Neutrik do these sockets as well. Drop Dave (OBBM) a PM. He'll have the right answer!
Good call, Chris, thanks!
 19.
Try here man. Before you order, check first to see if you require a mono or stereo socket.
Thanks mate, it's stereo. I know WD and Allparts, I've had stuff before from both. I suppose my qestion is are there barrel jacks out there that are better than Switchcraft? Or are (as I suspect) Switchcraft pretty much the best anyway?
 20. I just bought Dom's Warwick Streamer CT. He came to London from Newcastle to deliver it and pick up another bass at the same time. We had a great chat for a couple of hours over a cup of char, and I'm delighted with the Streamer! I may even keep this one Dom's a top bloke, totally honest, and I would unhesitatingly deal with him again.
 21. It's a standard 1/4" Warwick (MEC) barrel jack. I need to get a replacement very quickly, preferably before 5 October but definitely by the 8th. I can get a Switchcraft from RS but are there better ones out there? Many thanks, N
 22.
Love the look of it, but the real problem for me - fingerprints ! I hate shiny surfaces that aren't spotless and I think it'd be nigh on impossible to keep clean without it being in a display cabinet .
I play with silk gloves mate
 23. It's definitely a T1000, my pics are sh*t, it looks fabulous in the fake flesh, as it were
 24.
Yowza! That is SO you Nige
It is rather Clarky, I can't tell you how happy I am to have gone back to Warwicks. As soon as I played it it felt so familiar and comfy, I adore it!
