Another big fan of her's, here. She's a fantastic ambassador for bass. I'd love to learn Joy Joy: what a fantastic composition. If anyone has come across a decent tab for it, please do share!

@krispn great post. -
Rumble 800 combo = around £750 new, so would it be fair to use that as a steer for your budget? Three suggestions from me: Bugera Veyron 1001M head (£200 new) plus used BF SC cab (£475) will give you a powerful, quality rig; There's plenty of love for the Rumble 500 combo on BC, but as a budget alternative a used TC BG 250 112 should come in at sub £250 and would be hard to beat in terms of value for money; MB CMD 121H is a lovely warm sounding combo (around £400 to £450 used), but I would recommend combining with something like a Tech 21 VTDI to give you additional presence and deal with high-end roll off you get from MB cabs, unless you particularly like/want that more vintage tone. Great that you've found a new band - all the best with that!

Really neat quote from dB5 on another thread, which relates to something that I've been finding with my 1001M, having been giving it a regular (home) work out over the past month... One thing I'm finding with the 1001M is that even with a little bit of gain e.g. at 2/10 it's not completely clean, for example in the way that my DG M900 goes completely clean. I'm guessing due to the MOSFET circuit in the 1001M. That gives the sound a warmth and touching on what dB5 was saying will hopefully mean it cuts through well in the mix. I'll get to find out in couple of weeks when I take it to a full band rehearsal.

This query came up recently just re-posting in here in case of wider interest... What ohm of cabs to go with Bugera BV1001M head? - Amps and Cabs - Basschat

Totally agree Dave - just recently added some dirt to an analogue chorus on a Zoom B1-4 patch and it' makes for cool cutting-through alternative to clean chorus.

Is this your first 6 string, do you have budget in mind, what's your preferred neck profile? Be useful to get a steer on those for some of our resident Spector 6 string users (e.g. @Paulhauser) and non-Spector 6 string gurus (e.g. @binky_bass) to maybe jump in.

Speaking of 2017... @Mastodon2 do you remember posting this on the Best and Worst Gear Purchases thread for that year. Amused me to read that back, not least as you've been one of the most useful contributors from my perspective with regard to the TonePump on my much loved Euro 5LX!

From what I can tell - particularly the older ones? I've heard a pretty good envelope from the old B3 (which I'm assuming is also the same as on the MS-60B) - but not as good on the B1-4 / B3n. Does that tie in with your experience Stew?

Definitely plenty of love for the MXR on BC. I tried to love mine (have had two of them) but just found it too harsh. My favs of the ones I've had, in order, are: 1= 3 Leaf Proton 2020 1= 3 Leaf GR2 3. Fwonkbeta 4. MXR 5. Aguilar Filter Twin 6. Zoom mulits: B1-4 / MS-60B / B3n 7. Helix Stomp / HX Effects But the 5 dedicated pedals mentioned are all pretty decent (and the 3 Leaf gear excellent if pricey); the multis tend to struggle with filter and synth.

Speaking of great but tiring bass lines, surprised we've got this far without any mention of Geddy Lee? I mean YYZ?! -

But such a great bass line and one that I need to spend a bit of time getting up to speed and seeing if I can persuade my band mates to include in the set! -

In terms of precise counting and committing the thing to memory, is it just me, or does anyone else find remembering the precise notes and phrases to Walk the Moon's - Shut and Dance pretty fiendish? -

Yeah, but he's [edit: NO LONGER] got the makings of an angry young man ready to relaunch the punk era...😄 -

You Tube and Tik Tok even more so? This much admired / reviled (depending on which BC'er you are) just made it onto the front cover of BP mag: -

Yup agreed. The counter is that the Blues originated from the opposite of privilege and that is rock'n'roll's true roots. You didn't need a fortune to pick up a battered acoustic 6 string and sing a tune. But I guess those days are long gone... -
I really like the look of the Boss 200 series pedals. How are you finding the DD 200?
-
@AJ567 - that is one sexy and neatly put together board! Very impressive!

Haha - didn't take us more than 10 posts to get onto Brexit 😁 (Btw - not wishing to de-rail this thread, PM me if you're still after a MB CMD 121H). -

True. But what about when those with a privileged background themselves go off on a class war e.g. multi-millionaire Lily Allen or the Clash’s Joe Strummer – the privately educated son of a diplomat? I guess you would include that in the "Same the other way too" category? -
Given their love of working-class street cred, it's striking just what privileged backgrounds many famous musicians have. There's maybe lots of reasons for the large number of public school pop stars. The gulf in provision of music lessons between state and private schools; the affordability of gear when starting out (although maybe less so these days?) and particularly the costs of touring and giving up a full time job. But does it matter, as long as they're making great music?
-
Hehe - agreed that I am a bit spoiled to have that as my practice rig! As you say, that it would be more than adequate as a gig rig. I would recommend either setting up a "presence" patch on a Zoom pedal or getting a VTDI to deal with the high-end roll off inherent in MB cabs - it does feel like removing a blanket!

Well if you're going to try and nail an 8 minute fusion-jazz piece! 😉 https://youtu.be/-N_SqtFerjg
