@Al Krow It's a BB3000A - fantastic bass. For that tune the bridge pickup was solod , bass and treble maxed out then through a Aguilar Tone Hammer with bass and treble almost fully boosted and 1Khz cut about 3/4.

I should have posted this as a comment in this thread...
Can anyone advise me regarding the BB434?
I'D like to know whether the volume pots affect the output throughout the whole turn as opposed to the last bit of the turn like on some basses, and also what is the weight like? I know two models are never identical but I really can't take much over 4kg.
Cheers!
@EJWW I had one and it was a very decent bass indeed.
It had a pan pot instead of individual volumes pots, and I always max out my volume so not sure about how the output is affected. From memory, it was not too heavy. Probably around 4Kg, but as you say there is some considerable variation.
Very well put together instrument, excellent pickups. and it played great! Wish I hadn't sold it now.....

Can you do The Trooper or Run to the Hills?
Lol - I don’t think so. I can’t double thumb, and I think that would be needed but would give a totally different tone. Maybe if I play octave pops though.....

Too true - it's funny how close your slapping on (presumably) roundwounds is to his playing on flats. But rhythmically - a great idea to take his patterns and slap them.
Yeah, they are roundwounds. Steves one of my favourite players, so i spent years copying that "clank" so I guess my thumb knows how to do it too!
I haven't figured out a way to convincingly slap the "gallop" though! There's a few other tunes that might work well as slap though. Something to work on I guess!

This is so wrong on so many levels!!!! AND I LOVE IT!!!!! Seriously - great job, and what a tune. Up the Irons!
Haha! Cheers man. To be honest, Steve's technique is more like finger slapping than plucking I'd say to the tone is similar.

Is that a Spector Euro?
It is - the preamp has been swapped out for an 18v EMG BTC system.

A bit of fun, I thought this would transcribe into a nice slap bass line!

Very nice @doc40hz, I've got a fortress one 5 string and was thinking about changing the pickups/preamp..was it an easy changeover?
Thanks! Yeah, no problems and I’m hardly the most skilled with a soldering iron. I’m thinking of putting the MECs back in and flogging the aguilars - if you’re interested, send me message.

Jaydee Supernatural noisy treble circuit?
in Bass Guitars
Posted
Can any JayDee owners answer me this? I have three JayDees. Two Series IIs and one Series III. All from the mid/late 80s I think.
I always assumed the treble circuits noise was just a quirk of the preamp. It's really hissy when boosted, but this hiss disappears when the mids are cut.
I recently bought my second Series II from another basschatter. It had a defective bass circuit so was sent back to the JayDee workshop and it had a new preamp fitted. The treble circuit on the new preamp is dead quite, and doesn't sound so dramatic in its treble boost.
So.....are my other preamps defective or is that just what they sounded like and the new preamp is quieter?
