2. I recently bought an Ibanez AGB200 semi acoustic which is a 30 incher and have toally and utterly fallen in love with this scale. I currently have this and the Controversial P-bass which is 4/4 and a Ric 4003 which is just a wee bit shorter than full scale. I almost cannot put the Ibanez down It seems to fit me perfectly and feel so natural when playing and it's not as if i have particularly small hands or arms, as a matter of fact, my knuckles almost scrape the ground and friends are always saying that i could tie my laces without bending over, my hands are bigger than average too. It's not just the size that makes me love this bass though, the sound is great for an instrument selling for less than £300 quid....lovely tones when both pups are used...sounds almost like an upright at times. There's no disguising that it's a budget instrument when you look at it though, the gold hardware kind of cheapens the look for me. The tuners are pretty crap too, a bit too much play and the white plastic adds to the cheap look. Fingerboard and body are very nice however and the frets are nice and even. It's still got the stock strings on but i intend to swap them over for some D'Addario Flatwound Chromes. It's a keeper for sure, this one! Unfortunately it's opened a can of worms and has resulted in me ordering another short scale bass. I've gone and ordered a Gretsch Thunder Jet which i've read really good things about but have never played... i think that i'm gonna stick with short scale from now on even if people do call me a sissy/pantywaist/girls blouse etc
 3. The Insider The Big Blue Black Hawk Down Walker The Virgin Suicides Thin Red Line The Pianist A few of my favourites and all original scores...unlike Oh Brother Where Art Thou, American Graffiti (which i have in my collection) et al.
 4.
or ust buy a really really good strap to make it seem like it weighs less. mr bank manager would prefer that
I've tried the strap route and my bank manager can go 'do one', lifes too short to deny yourself simple pleasures...i'm single, own my own property, don't drink and have stopped taking drugs other then the prescription type I have a decent income and love music...i want a Gretsch so i'm gonna buy one...i just have decide whether it'll be the Broadkaster or the Thunder Jet...at this minute it's the Thunder Jet, but who knows what tomorrow will bring
 5.
Kev...if I'm ever on a boat and see that you're a fellow passenger I'll just jump overboard there and then to save myself the effort later
Nah. i never withdrew it because of Kev or anyone else....i'm just gonna hang on to it, it is a nice bass and i think it looks good with the red pickguard, i never really liked the Torty black one...was too jazzy looking for me...now it looks sluttish i quite like it , just a pity it's so heavy and hard on me old shoulder. I tried a Ibanez Articore and was llooking to buy a short scale hollowbody, I was gas'ing for either a Gretsch or a Jack Casady ( i know the casady is long scale) and wanted to put the proceeds to one or the other...i've decided on a Gretsch so the credit card is gonna get a hiding very soon
 6.
It certainly wins the Basschat ''most controversial bass award''!
Yeah, for sure it's one P-bass that won't be forgotten in a hurry....could be worth a few bob in time to come...might have to put the price back up
 7.
I hope you had the good manners to thank them ...
I was too busy falling over and being sick.
 8. If Mark King was Chinese his first name would be Wan. Level 42 turned me to drink.

 10.
And now we've heard both sides of the argument we can draw some better conclusions. You can see on the eBay listing that there is no mention of 'custom' at all, nor are there any images of the decal. It appears thebuyer has made assumptions upon this and posted on here with these assumptions. So on these facts, the buyer did not buy it on the grounds that it was a custom shop bass, and thus no deceit has taken place in my eyes. Of course I cannot see any personal emails or eBay messages between the 2 of them .
I asked Kev last night to give me a link to the Ebay page as i couldn't find it through my feedback page as it was showing as private, I apologise for my sh*te memory but i couldn't be sure whether Kev had shown a pic of the headstock with the decal or not and maybe jumped the gun in stating that it had been sold as a Fender Custom Shop model and that Kev had perhaps just used different terminology in the advert, and i quote here '' Fender Precision / Jazz Special Bass Limited Edition '' Again, i apologise to Kev for this misunderstanding But quiet frankly this could have been avoided if it had been stated that the decal in question was not genuine....I thought i had received a genuine Fender Custom shop model...but then again, we all know what thought did? I'll know better the next time
 11.
tbh i thought the decals were the worst part of the bass, largely because they wern't applied brilliantly id be interested to know whether it was mike who added them or someone before him
Hi, nowhere did i accuse Kev or anyone else of selling the bass as a Fender Custom Shop bass...i assumed, wrongly as it turns out that it was, due to the decal. I would say it's not beyond the realms of possiblity that one could be had for the price i paid for it. Anyway Kev didn't con me, though he did make a nice profit as it turns out...but hey! we live in a capitalist world guys Now, anyone want to buy the frigging thing?
 12. Hi again...nice to see this for sale thread is generating plenty of interest What i would like to know is this: Who put the transfer on? was it the original seller Mike? or the guy he bought it from? Or was it Kev Hide, who i bought the bass from? It most certainly wasn't me To be honest i also though the transfer was a bit suss when i received the bass. So come on guys, who put the transfer on? I've contacted kevmanbass/bassmankev or whatever his name is and asked for his side of the story. I'm gonna make one more price drop on this bass as i really want to buy a Jack Casady, so I'll sell this wonderful bass with a colourful and mysterious history for the price of a Jack Casady which from Thomann £422...plus post. As someone pointed out the parts on the bass is worth the asking price alone, the allparts neck alone retails for £214 from Allparts UK, the rest of the hardware is also high quality. This is my final price drop....I'll use the fecking thing as a canoe paddle if it doesn't sell at his price
 13.
Thanks mate... I think you boys might be confusing this with another P bass that looks very similar to this...maybe not though!!! It's got the custom shop logo on the back of the headstock though.
Hi mate Apparently this is the same bass that was sold to a certain Kevin Hide for the bargain price of £395 back in January, he then tried to sell it on here for offers over £600 a few weeks later and caused a bit of a stushy. Now, i bought the bass for 600 quid plus post so was only trying to recover what i spent and as far as i can tell the bass is a Fender Custom special issue and was worth more than it was originally sold for. However, i now know that any realistic chance of me selling the bass for what i paid for it is probably gone, so i'm willing to offer you it for £500 plus post. The only real reason i'm selling it is because it's just a wee bit too heavy for my bad shoulder. If no-one wants it for £500 i'll just stick it in the case and hold on to it. I'm in no desperate need for the cash. Here's a link to the original for sale thread: Fender For Sale
 14.
Yup, and if I recall correctly, the body is the only bit that's actually Fender, the neck is an Allparts one and it originally sold on here for under £400. Hopefully we're both confused and the similarities are coincidence. Perhaps the seller could confirm it is 100% custom shop (well the body and neck anyway).
Or alternatively perhaps you could confirm that it's the same bass that sold for under £400? If you can i would be interested in the details so that i can have a wee word in the ear of ther guy who sold me it as a Custom Shop Fender. I hope that it's not being inferred that i'm out to decieve anyone? I'm just going by what i was told when the bass was sold.

Just checked, they are indeed licensed and this one retails at $269 US.
 16.
Hi mate, What controls does the pre-amp offer please? Any any descriptions of the tone mate...i'm guessing big and phat? Any jazz honk from the J pup? Thanks J
It's controls are volume/volume with treble and bass from a stacked pot. It definitely sounds big and phat as for jazz honk, well i've never had a true J bass but it certainly sounds good to my ears. Certainly pretty versatile when it comes to sound.
 17. I'm selling my, what might be a Fender Custom Shop or Fender Special issue depending on who you listen to ( for more info see further down the thread ), P-bass. Whatever it is, it's pretty damn sexy and has an Allparts maple jazz neck with black block inlays and binding. It is fitted with EMG pick ups, Aguilar pre-amp, hipshot tuners, including d-tuner and Badass II bridge. Bass is more or less immaculate apart from a small ding on the upper body. It was fitted with Rotosound flats around 2 months ago and comes with a black tortoise shell pickguard and the red one shown in the first pic. I also have a hard case for it, case has a bit of wear but is sound, i do not have the keys for it. Asking ] plus insured post. If no-one wants it i'm either going to set fire to it the next time i'm drunk or just stick it in it's case under the bed.
 18. My maple fingerboard doesn't have laquer on the frets...it's Custom Shop P bass.
 19. Jim Lea used a P bass TV shows in Germany but it was borrowed rather than owned. Jim Lea is a severely underrated bassist as is Slade as a rock group...fecking Xmas single!!
 20. This is my new favourite...but i'm bidding on a 4001 c64s so who knows what the future holds I just love the sound of Rics and the neck is just right for me...pity the manufacturers are so up themselves Can i play it? i'd say that in terms of talent i'm better than Vicous but not quite as good as Dee Dee
 21. I would definitely buy it if you have the cash...but i wouldn't bank on selling it for too much more if you do...there's quite a few on ebay at the moment and people seem reluctant to part with a decent wedge for them...probably cos of the economic climate at the moment. I recently picked up a 2003 Montezuma Brown 4003 for a good price myself...though nowhere near as cheap as you've been offered your friends. i love playing it as it's sound suits me down to the ground and it's much lighter than my Fender custom. I have my eye on a 4001 on ebay at the moment but have a feeling that the seller is going to be looking for silly money for it
 22. SLADE!!!! and no, i'm not joking...I love Jim Lea
 23.
I don't think it was a "fair" critique. I think it was rude of him. It's started an interesting discussion (you've posted, so you must think so!), so why shouldn't she have posted it?
I think it's a case of 2 wrongs don't make a right. By posting what this, admittedly, socially inept guy has done the OP has shown herself to be almost as rude as he was. As for it being an 'interesting discussion' because someone has posted, well that's not an excuse for ripping the piss out of someone you don't know on a public forum even if they are as subtle as brick through a window. As others here have pointed out it all seems bit like gang mentality.
 24. I use refined monkey sp**k...it's pretty hard to get hold of though...both the monkey and the sp**k...little bastards squirm like no-ones business.
 25.
My views on Warwicks are well documented, but I must say, that is the nicest looking Warwick I've ever seen. I almost think its OK (its still firewood obviously, its a Warwick). The rest of the range is designed with the mulleted, wannabe 1980's session musician in mind. This has a tiny bit of style.
More or less what i was thinking...i've seen a lot uglier.
