2. got my second wiring kit from John, this time for a p to pj conversion. the quality is superb, the communication faultless, really usefull tips, just great... highly recommended! thanks, John!
3. fuzz and chorus added fatness if required with octaver in the video it's with oct first, then without https://youtu.be/ZnEK6wAL1-w?t=1m14s
4. i made a spec list with my wishes regarding a programmable 8 loop switcher, and the nice guys at JamItFX seemed to be able to make sense out of my overentusiastic babble... it has a switchable input, with either a buffered or a boosted (with vol. control) input, 8 freely programmable loops, which are organized in three banks with 8 patches each. the first 4 loops have each an independend volume control. here's a video with sloppy playing and recorded on mobille phone, but you'll get the point, i guess. and i have no idea how to insert youtube links, so you'll have to click the link, sorry for the inconvenience. edit: charic had the kindness and fixed the link! thanks a lot!

6. to clarify a bit... one 102p is actually loud enough in terms of sheer volume, to handle the stuff i play at the moment (pubs and small clubs up to 100-150 people). it's just that it doesn't sound good on it's own. two of those 102p are sounding way better and fuller, louder of course too. but it is not he sheer amount of volume what i'm looking for, i want to get along with one lightweight single cab. it does not have to outperform 2x 102p's. it has to be at least as loud as 1x 102p but with more bottom. if it is louder in terms of volume, that's an added bonus, i want a rounder and fuller sound out of one cab. if it gets close to 2x 102p, that's completly sufficient for me. i am aware, that i will have to add another cab or get a bigger one if the venues get larger on a regular basis (which i'm afraid won't happen anyway, hahahaha.... ) judging by the comments, the supercompact should be able to do this. i pulled the trigger on one anyway, so que sera, sera....
7. a few days ago i found a decently priced boss OC2 and because i had it on my bucket list for quite a while i bought it, although i already have an octaver, the MXR bass octave deluxe. having spent the whole evening with comparing them, the MXR clearly and without a doubt blew the OC2 out of the water. the mxr sounds fatter, tracks way better and can produce several rather different sounds and is usable down to A (with short notes to G). the OC2 shines (to me) only when played in higher registers and without the added direct / clean sound.then it has a nice synth sound. with the added second octave it produces a dissonant, ringmod-like tone, which becomes more dominant the lower you go. i was quite surprised, as the OC2 is so highly regarded and praised on all forums. here the off-the-mill effect was clearly serving the intended purpose better than the vintage gear (though the OC2 is not bad by any means, and has a quircky charm of his own) something similar happened in the past, when i got my 3leafaudio wonderlove and the iron ether polytope the wonderlove directly compared to the MXR envelope filter sounds fatter and funkier, but you have to really turn those knobs for results, which then are really good. but the glory is over, as soon as you put some other effect in front of it. you have to immediatly re-adjust not only the sensevity, but also the envelope attack. here the MXR shines, no matter what (or how many) effect you put in front of it, it sounds good. may it hasn't the ultimate fatness of the wonderlove, but it's close enough and is much more practical and forgiving (i know, that the wonderlove has an effect loop, but i feed it with several other effects (fuzz, oct) so i can't put one effect into the loop, because i might need another one combined with the wonderlove) the iron ether has similar simptoms, hard to set up, as soon as it is combined with another effect it needs re-adjust and those adjustments are hard to find, because the range of adjustments is sooooo huge, a tenth of a millimeter too far and the sound is not usable anymore. i had a borrowed tech21 boost chorus, which worked very much comparable to the mxr's mentioned above. sensible range of settings, easier to set up, easier to change set ups... so my heretical hypothesis is that mass produced, off the mill effects are better than their hyped boutique and vintage brethrens.... let the bloodshed begin....
8. ok, after thinking about the matter for a while, weighing pro's and con's, considering all opinions, making a list w/ plus and minus points, talking it through with my astrologist, throwing a coin and a sleepless night i came to the following conclusion: f+ck it, i'll order a supercompact.
9. i'm in slovenia. i have tested a supertwin , a buddy of mine has one here in slovenia. i liked the sound very much, rounded and powerful, but the supertwin cab is too big for me. i play in a ten piece soulband, and space is an issue as well on stage as in the van. that's why i focused on the super compact.
10. the mids themselves are not the problem, the combination with the lack of lows in the 102p made me think about switching cabs. the mids define one's sound, IMHO, but the lack of low freq punch is a bit of a dealbreaker rg. the 102p for me... i just called alex and he said, that 1 8ohm supercompact might be right there in between, as the output power of the amp would be reduced @8 ohms. he thinks it would be sufficient for all but the biggest gigs / stages.... decisions, decisions....
11. well, i actually want to change my cabs, because the sound of a single 102p is kind od underwhelming (overaccentuated mids, no lows), carrying two of them around is the same as i carried a regular 4x10 or 2x12 around. now i don't want to have MORE gear, but less. i so my train of thoughts went into that direction. alex writes on his page (that's what i wanted to verify here):

It's a 1x12" with the fatness and depth at high SPL to match some of the best 2x12" and 4x10" cabs (and our old Compact 1x15")..
12. Hi there, i'm thinking about switching from my 2x MB 102p cabs to one Barefaced super compact cab. i have no possibility to test the Barefaced, so i thought about getting YOUR advice! will a single 8 ohm Barefaced super compact cab be strong / loud enough to replace 2x 102p cabs? i'm also worried that a a single 8ohm cab will get only 300w out of the bigbang head i use. any opinions on this? cheers, w_m
13. i agree wholehartedly! i prefer it to the wonderlove i also have. the sensivity on the mxr is much more forgiving than on the wonderlove. when adding other FX (oct, fuzz) the mxr still works with the added "oomph" from the other FX, while the wonderlove has serious difficulties without adjustments to the sensivity.... GLWTS!
14. had the pleasure to deal with goran, which was great! totally hasslefree, recommended!
15. hi there everybody, I'm thinking about getting a Dr. Scientist BitQuest. but can't get some real life info on it. does anybody use one? how do you rate it, is it usefull for the odd less used effect (like flanger, reverb, delay etc) and how does it work w/ active basses? i'd be thankfull for any info!
16. my experience with john was extremely pleasent, great advice and prompt delivery. the wiring kit (for my p) is great, exactly what i had in mind functionwise at a great price, installation was super easy. recommended!
17. or i could just put the envelope itself behind the LS2, and still have both, the fuzz and the filter, to use seperatly or in conjunction with other filters... but that would probably also reduce the volume of the filter when used without the fuzz or alone .... what about a volume pedal at the end of the chain??? dammit, just started with effects and i'm in constant problemsolving mode...
18. that makes sense.... in your opinion, would a envelope filter like the proton, which has a "gain" knob, help? i already tried to drop the volume on the fuzz, but then i also lose the sound, that i'm after....
19. hi there, when i use my envelope filter in conjuction w/ my fuzz, the volume jumps up rather significantly. i use a MXR M82 envelope and a 3leaf audio you're doom fuzz. the envelope has pot for "dry" and "fx", the fuzz has a "mix" and a "volume" pot. tweaking all four of these pots changes the sound, but actually not the volume. i like my effects to be at unity or, if i have to turn the volume up, to do so in a controlled way, but i can't seem to get that done with the combination of the aforementioned effects. both effects sound OK volume-wise when used on their own, only the combination spikes in volume. due to this i can't even figure out, which effect is responsible for the rise of volume.... what to do?
20. graeme sold me a pedal, all went great, good communication, a true pleasure to deal with! recommended!
