1. Needs a few tweaks but its nearly there. Need to get a new nut as this one decided to break around the E string when I restrung it. It's playable though. Sound wise its actually pretty good, and I'm yet to give it a set up but it plays nicely. The necks on these are very skinny for a 'p' bass. The finish on the body isn't great, but I like the idea of it getting a new dents in it, and it probably won't leave the house so I'm not too bothered!
2. Decided to have a go at converting my old Westfield P to a fretless. It's not a terrible bass for the money, but being my first it was abused pretty bad. Badly resprayed countless times, attacked with all sorts (screwdrivers, hammers, bricks?). Thought it was 'cool' at the time I suppose... :,) Anyway, I want to keep it as free as possible, using odd bits from the shed, and keeping all the orignal hardware/eletronics unless it turns out nice enough to warrent an upgrade! Those of you who are good at this sort of thing may want to close this page now as I'm sure I'm doing it all wrong. But anyway... The body was/is in pretty bad shape, so I started off by sanding it down to a decent level, and filling the holes. Out come the frets, bit messy but I don't think it was too bad for a first go. I decided to use a wood filler to fill the frets, as this way it covers the chips that I mananged to put in the neck. Filled the frets, then sanded down with a homemade radius block. I put a light coat of a wood stain I found on it and it actually turned out ok. This is where I am now. I'm not sure what to use to coat it, or if it even needs it, so some advice at this point would be appreciated! Hopefully I'll get some paints and start on the body this weekend.
3. The one in the mag advert was darker, much nicer looking imo. Far too expensive though, better off with an old 405, used to have one & thought it was awesome!
4. Just seen the back page of the new Bass guitar mag, really liking the look of the new ATK basses, and the return of a j pup! Anyone seen these?
5. On that subject, my wadding turned up yesterday so expect a build thread over the weekend!
6. Could be the cheaper tweeter? Is yours set on? Saying that I do end up boosting the treble on my bass but I did the same with my other cab, seems fine at home but needed a treble boost when with the band.
7. Suppose I should! This topic does keep popping up. I'll see what I get time to do later...
8. Decided to give this a go... I've ordered some wadding, going to pick up the dowel & glue tomorrow and get started on it tomorrow night! Will let you know how I get on.
9.
http://basschat.co.u..._1#entry1714331 - That is what I mean by bracing / lining the cab. it looks a bit mental .. but it only took an hour or so and cost around £30.
Nice photo's, are the dowels just glued in? Had a quick look, as expected not a lot going on inside these: Still not sure if I'm going to bother changing it, it sounds great to my ears and thats the main thing isn't it... I have stuck some rubber feet to it though, not sure I trust the plastic corners/feet.
10. It does sound hollow, I really noticed the hollow feeling the moment I picked it up to be honest. Although sound wise, I get what I want from it so I can't really complain too much! I get the feeling that if it took a tumble it may fall apart though. I'm too knackerd to do anything tonight so will have to be tomorrow I'm afraid. Depending how it looks tomorrow, I might have a go a doing the bracing/lining as it won't be needed for two weeks, plus it gives me something to do other than browse the net wondering what to waste my money on!
11. Mine will be pulled apart after practise tonight, will put some photos up later!
12. Never used them myself, but our guitarist used to. Put me off getting them as it wrecked the socket on his tele. Only one example though!
13.
Ok, so the MBE cab has arrived at my town - I still can't get to it till Thursday, but I'll let you know my first experiences first-thing ! L
One thing to watch is the grill, it kicks in pretty easy. I'm going to get a cover sorted for mine.
14. At the moment: Warwick $$ 5 String, Line 6 Pod X3 Live, Ashdown LG1000 & GK 212MBE Cab !
15. No problem bud, I've been meaning to post a review but not had the time/been away! Yeah I've seen the threads about the bracing, at the moment I'm not too bothered as I like the sounds I'm getting although its good to have options. I'm away at the moment but hopefully they'll still be for sale when I'm back! Be interesting to see what the new prices are though, and if they remain cheaper than the neo range.
16. It's great so far, although I'm still yet to gig with it but I don't have any worries about it keeping up with the rest of the band. I'm playing through it hours at a time in practise and it sounds great to my ears. Only niggle is the build quality, feels a little fragile but this is probably because I'm used to throwing around indestructible Peavey and TE cabs I might try and get another one, not because I'd need it really, just because!
17. A warning for anyone thinking of using Parcel2go..... Pay a bit more and get better service elsewhere... there cheap but useless. Had to rebook a collection three times now, messing up my Ebay orders etc. Not happy!
18. Replied, sorry for the delay. The Ebay auction ends tomorrow, nobody local fancies this? Will take a sensible offer.
19. Arrived today, looks pretty cool in the flesh, although I might change the grill to cloth if I keep it. Only plugged in for a quick test as I'm off out but first impressions are great. Nice and clear, punchy bass. I cranked the volume and didn't get any nasty noises at all. I underestimated just how light it is as well! I'll give it a real test tomorrow and let you know how it goes.
20. Collection only for now I'm afraid. Marshall.
21. Bump. Open to offers on the price....
22. I've seen the reviews, both good and bad. For that price with the thomman return policy its worth a go.
23. Ordered one from Thomann last night, the price seems to have dropped a fair bit. £225 for the 4ohm, £202 for the 8ohm - cant be bad for that kind of money!
