1.
The problem is that I don't think Joolz cares what the expert muso audience thinks, because he is aiming the show at what he feels is 'educating' the TOTPs crowd
You calling me an expert muso? In all the episodes I've seen, I can only remember three or four where things stood out. Jellyfish. The Darkness. Pearl Jam. Buena Vista Social Club.
2. It's funny how things evolve. Years ago, I'd be hassling anyone in earshot to save me the little plastic things that they used to put on bread packaging or the rubber washers from bottles of Grolsch.
3. My old Rickenbacker had Schaller compatible straplocks fitted as standard and while they worked fine, I'd never retrofit Schallers to any of my guitars. Dunlop all the way here.
4. Haven't watched it for a while and feel the primary reason behind this being that the bill is just too diverse and lumpy for it to be an enjoyable hour long watch.
5. Whenever we gig, the promoter always does a belts and braces email a week before to all the contacts setting out gearshare, load in, soundcheck times, and so on. Headliners generally provide the drum shells/stands; the breakables (stool/snare/bass drum pedal/cymbals and hats) should be brought along by each support band. The only thing that really gets on my tit is when another band ignore the mail and turn up in expectation of a borrow.
6. That's kind of weird that they're quoting the boxed sizes. Anyhow, it's (w) 24" x (D) 15" x (H) 15". The height measurement includes the rubber feet.
7. I'd love this...just need to shift my Hartke stuff. Damn.
8. ... edited out. God knows what happened there.
9. It might also be worth changing the tone control's capacitor. It's not something I know too much about but it can affect the overall tone. You could also put a cap on an individual volume control to roll off more treble the more open the control is.
10.
Yes this would have been great if it happened... but its been clarified Geddy and Alex are just inducting them.
Wrong! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mjm10iXTon4
11.
Enjoyed that. Nice wee tune. Got anything live on youtube or the like? Edit to add: D'oh, found it and it wasn't difficult.
Most of that You Tube stuff will be coming down imminently...some of it is horrific. Nasty. There's an EP up on Bandcamp. www.wknj.co.uk. It'll redirect.
12.
That in Rhoom? We practice there too!
Yup. Tuesday nights #2!
13.
They are at it again. http://wogew.blogspo...n-revealed.html
I saw this earlier today on the Super-Deluxe Edition website as well (http://www.superdeluxeedition.com/news/the-beatles-sgt-peppers-lonely-hearts-club-band-super-deluxe-edition/). I never quite understood the desire/excitement for monaural delivery...when I was a kid, my amp had a mono button on it and it just made everything sound bland (except for the first Van Halen album, which sounded great in either stereo or mono). While I'm never going to buy it, I was a little shocked (and don't blame Brexit) that Amazon Italy have it listed for under £85 notes, but in the UK it's £141.00. UK screwed over (yet) again. We just seem to accept that every time we bend over someone is going to shove something up there.
14. So a couple of weeks ago, we shot a video. It's all a bit done on the cheap (£0.00)...we did it right at the end of a regular rehearsal session and mimed to a track we recorded in December. A couple of Go-Pro cameras, my Sony A5100 (which shoots 1080p) and an old low res video camera. Three takes total with cameras in different positions and a couple with one of us hand holding my Sony. Our guitarist did some rudimentary editing. He professed he got bored towards the end. Here you go. Turned out OK for a bunch of old blokes.
15. In my experience, CDs are upfront or at the time of order. We've always gone with reputable businesses with a proven track record (no pun intended). While I've never gone the vinyl route (or ever will as we're not hipsters), I would agree there needs to be something upfront to cover costs for mastering, cutting, acetates etc. All this costs and its effectively WIP before a single record is pressed. Full payment, though? Well we are poor, unreliable musicians so I suppose they're covering themselves. Are you able to contact the business and ask for references/bands who've used them previously?
16. What to do when you're old? I've kind of slipped into semi-retirement. Heh. Job is low-stress analytical work and I still have a full mop of hair, so I'm good to go. I'll give it five years and try and convince my missus that it's time for me to start reading the pile of books I seem to be accumulating, get away on holiday a bit more, complain about my aching back and knee. I think with the accelerating issues with my thumbs, a fire sale might be happening around the same time, but I'll keep limping along for as long as I can. My old pop carked it less than two years after he retired; I guess after an uber-active job his body was just worn out, so I plan on enjoying the time off until they screw the lid on.
17. I know I'm stating the obvious, but back in 1986 (or whenever), these probably weren't looked upon as being vintage in any respect and the market was somewhat different; Fender (at the time) wasn't particularly a vogue brand to be playing (I just seem to remember every shop I visited just seemed to carry limited stocks of Musicman, Jackson and Charvel).
18. We gigged in Reading about a year ago, headliners were supposed to supply backline, but didn't. Sansamp into the desk. Disaster.
19. I'll get everything together and see where we stand. I suspect (looking online) that I might go with either Jazz Bass Special neck or an Aerodyne Jazz Bass neck. Thought had crossed my mind about a used Moses or a leftie Status Stingray neck. Anyhoo, early days.
20. So here's the body...I suppose I'll rub it back a bit and spray it black... Our logo looks like this. I have full artistic control over it, so I can retain the aspect ratio of the words but resize accordingly. ...which should hopefully give me this kind of look: I'm unsure how the Epiphone pickups sound, so for the time being, I'll leave them in situ. I'd like to just have either a single volume control and a pickup selector switch or just a single volume control (both pickups wired together somehow).
21. I'll say from the outset that this is going to be slow and messy, no doubt. It wouldn't be a lie to say that I've gone through a lot of Thunderbirds over the years, but recently my thoughts have turned to bolting something together and applying one of those vinyl decals over the body with my band name on it ('Who Killed Nancy Johnson?'). Last night I procured a banana coloured loaded Epiphone body. I have chisels. I have parts. Lots of parts. Mwahahaaar!
22. We only do 30-45 minute sets. I do get a bit crampy in my left calf mainly because of my stance; I tend to carry my weight on my right leg and almost tiptoe on my left.
23.
Kiss discography wikipedia lists over 48 albums?
To save you looking, Wikipedia lists as below and in all likelihood there's probably more that have been released into different markets and been overlooked. 20 studio albums isn't bad going in any respects considering they've only done two albums this century, but they really are the masters of repackaging and selling on. Eleven live albums? 13 compliations? 8 box sets? Kiss discography Studio albums 20 Live albums 8 Compilations 13 Box set albums 8 '78 solo albums 4 Instant Live 3
24. A long long time ago I ran into Ross Halfin, erstwhile rock photographer of this parish. We shot the sh*t about photographic gear (Olympus), film choice (Ilford) and push processing (two stops), and I asked him about some if the bands he worked with. Kiss came up. He said something like, 'Never believe anything that comes out of their mouths. They're the biggest liars I've ever met, especially Simmons.' They're really just the personification of Trumpy, aren't they? Bigging up everything, but they've been doing it for decades.
25. Everyone is different, huh? Elixir Nanowebs. It would probably be simpler to list the string manufacturers that I haven't tried during this 30+ sojourn. OK, let's get the negatives out of the way first. They cost £35-40 a set. Drum roll. And that's it. They last for ages. They sound pretty much the same six months after you put them on.
