1.
I know it's all been said before about them, so I'm sorry if I upset anybody here, but I've just finished watching Coldplay at Glastonbury and I really did struggle to stay awake.
Why does everyone feel the need to prefix criticism by apologising? Everyone is entitled to an opinion, some will agree, some will disagree! I watched about 30 seconds and decided it was time for bed (yes, 9.00pm and I'm grown up and everything). I just don't get Coldplay and never have. Clearly, they have passion for it (and they're clearly adored) and they all seem to be nice enough guys, but I find them so dull musically that they leave me cold. Same goes with Muse. Same goes a lot of these festival headliners.
2.
I think you are right that the P/J config looks the best. Have you never considered a Spector? I would've thought they'd be right up your neck-through rock-machine schizzle?
I did give a bit of consideration to the Forte 4X...the Thunderbird shaped one, but the prices were horrific. £4k+ when I enquired. I played one of the Legend bolt-ons, it was ok, nothing special though. It's weird that the Gibsons are seen as being fine for my old school punky stuff, but the Spector was a bit more 'metal'. I'm getting very envious of your stuff...
3. That's a very cool looking bass. Very cool. Much prefer the look of the P/J pickup configuration over the soapbars.
4.
I'll see what I can do
(Preferably one that I might want to put a cheeky offer in for on the day, eh? )
5. I had a Bongo 5HH a few years ago...it was a lovely bass, but the actives really did my head in; it was more a case of my discipline in leaving the tone controls alone while [we] were playing, but more often or not what started as a great tone ended up a horrible mushed up mess with every control on the bass turned to the maximum. I did raise a question here about pulling out (or disconnecting) the active circuitry and running it passive somehow, but I couldn't really get a definitive answer as to whether this was possible. The bass is long gone (and I do miss it now and again) and I'd still like to know! Would it have been possible to simply desolder the pickup cabling and route these through regular pots? Paul

7.
Boschma. Just watch the feet on the bottom as they have a tendency to pop off the screws. Everything else about the case is fantastic. My 6U and its contents case survived being dropped from chest height followed my me falling on top of it.
Is there footage available of this on You Tube? Work sucks today and I could use a giggle.
8. I've not used the model you mention, but so long as whatever you plug into the aux-in (or an effects loop return) should work fine. All you're doing is (as you say), bypassing the pre-stage of the unit; assuming you're feeding the amp from an iPod/phone headphone output, the only overriding factor is to make sure the input signal isn't super hot or the output may overdrive/distort as you're hitting the power stage with a signal that's got too much gain. At the same time you obviously need to ensure there's enough output to drive what's behind the aux input, just don't whack the iPod/phone up to 100% immediately. Start low, work up and control the overall volume with the gain/volume pot on the front of the amp. Easy.
9. I had an Orange Matamp (top left). Bought it at this ex-hire place in Chalk Farm, Landaan, late 70s. It had Davey Johnson's name stencilled on the back. My dad had it revalved at his workplace (MoD) and it caught fire when we were jamming in a friends bedroom, at which stage we were pouring Coke into it to put the flames out. It was a lovely amp. I dread to think what it would be worth now.
10.
Apologies
Accepted with thanks.
11. I can get one cheaper on Amazon!
12. I like the Mooer. Likey very much.
13.
Lol
I just don't get this type of ambiguous response either. Why couldn't you simply have said he was, but he isn't anymore? We're not all party to information relating to an individual's membership; there's thousands of people here...how was I supposed to know the status of one member? Sheesh.
14. A bit of a strange one here. I run a small floorboard for certain applications, Boss tuner into a Morley ABY box (splitting the signal into two channels), channel A has just got a SansAmp BDDI (which runs whumpy and cleanish), channel B has got three dirtboxes in the chain (I only use one at a time!) in the order of Boss ODB, SansAmp GT2, SansAmp VTBass (the new one, BDDI sized). These signals run into a stereo power amp with the BDDI a 4x10 and dirt into a 2x10. Following a tidy up, I have a BDDI-sized space on the board that I'd like to stick something into. I'm not really a flange guy, chorus maybe. I'd like an octave up pedal, but everything bass-centric seems to be octave-down. Any suggestions?
15. Give Josi Warman a look up. (http://www.warmanguitars.co.uk) No idea where he sources his stuff from, but I fitted a pair of humbucker sized P90s to one guitar and a single zebra humbucker to another. Whether or not you feel they're too cheap for a PRS is one thing, but from a personal perspective, both mods have (to my ears) been a significant improvement to both guitars.
16. I had a 1978/79 for a very long time; got it in a trade. Weighed a ton and when I got it, it wasn't really considered as vintage just 'used and a few years old'. It weighed a ton, had a huge fat neck, was very boomy on the first few frets of the A & E strings, the stock pickup failed, the stock pots failed, but apart from these matters, it was pretty robust and needed little adjustment. Looking back though, it really was a nasty piece of sh*t. Compared to modern instruments it sucked big time. Glad it's gone really. P
17.
Spotify Playlist coming up ha ha!!
While a few people here have suggested their favoured albums, I'd advocate putting a playlist together of everything in release order and just listen to the band evolve. You'll find your favourite period. I'm a member of a closed member online blog...the guy who runs it is a huge XTC fan and he's been posting some rare stuff (ie the BBC/Transistor Blast 4CD and a bunch of great live shows). If anything, it all makes me wish it was 1980 again. Why did I waste so much time following Kiss in my teens and not homegrown stuff? Sigh.
18. Watched the program, after every performance there was an inevitable barrage of questions from my wife as to how good they were in my opinion. There were some good players, but I found the whole acoustic/percussive playing a but tedious. For me, the standout performances were the young kid playing Bohemian Rhapsody and the guy playing the jazzy stuff (with the brown guitar). Find it a little difficult to understand how that 'street musician' Dave actually made it on to the show.
19.
I'll be there! I actually have a free Saturday!
Gary - Can you bring one of your MV-65NS basses? I'm still on the hunt, would just like to try one out! Cheers Paul

21. Unsure whether anyone's seen this yet. It's a bit Living Colour, it's a bit metal. They seem like genuinely nice kids and they're not even 15 yet, so there's immense potential. They also have a documentary film coming out! P
22. I think I just did a little bit of jizz.
