  1. In truth? Probably the 3/4 Zeller I sold to make way for the 4/4 Zeller. 😂
  2. I play a 4/4 at larger indoor gigs ... that's "larger" as in more room for me and my gear, so a nice big stage or something. Trouble is, that's only a dozen or so gigs a year. For outdoor sunshine gigs I play my 3/4 AliKat because obviously it really sparkles in the sun. For all indoor gigs where space is at a premium I play the Kolstein Busetto that I bought a few years back from @bassacewhich originated on Basschat with @Clarky I believe. Now I've bought a KK Baby Bass which I'll use at jam sessions where not only is space limited but also I will be at the mercy of whoever claims to be "doing the sound" and the bass will be at the mercy of passing punters. It's horses for courses, innit? Not entirely sure I've actually answered any questions here ...

  4. Oh come on guys, you knew I was going to buy it all along, didn't you? 🙄😂
  5. Staying with the Repair Shop concept, YouTube is awash with scarily clever people doing astonishing restoration work, resto-mods, and complete rebuilds as a way of getting people to watch a 20- or 30- or 60-minute YouTube video. Maybe trawl through a few dozen of those, find some suitable craftspeople (phew! just for a moment there I thought I'd typed "craftsmen"), and offer your case up as a content source?
  6. If you get feedback with a KK then you're doing something wrong, Pete. The hollow body is completely filled with foam and the pickup is a mag jobbie. It feels like a "proper" slim-bodied DB to play but sonically it has a lot of P-bass in it. It's ideal for an overloud blues band.
  7. If you're just 1cm short on the nut, I'd be astonished if that left you light on the windings. Don't see how sustain on a fingered note could be affected by what's happening above the finger.
  8. If I could dream up the slightest justification for it, I'd have this. I had one of the first of these that Kris ever sold, even brought him along to the SouthEast BassBash one year so that he could demonstrate his basses.
  9. All the time & effort you went to, getting that thing. If you sell now, you just know you'll be looking for another next year. 🤣
  10. Only when someone fits a Jazz neck to a P.
  11. Look like a pair of decent basses for the right person. Luckily enough, that isn't me.
  12. @Silvia Bluejay has picked up (mainly) on the video side of things. For purely audio recordings - which can later be sync'd with whatever video sources you may have, of course - I've had consistently excellent results from the Zoom H-series. The Zoom H1 and Zoom H2 are both essentially field recorders; you place them in the venue where you think they'll get the best sound whilst not being stolen by passing pikeys. I used to routinely ask the bar staff to put my H2 on a shelf behind the bar. Both units are cheap as chips and very robust. The Zoom H4 is a significant step up. You have the same on-board mic capsules (usually in X/Y pattern) as with the H1 & H2 but you also have a pair of combi-jack inputs so that you can take a clean feed from the PA. We put our bands through the PA as much as possible so this appraoch really works for us. Given that the thing least likely to be mic'd up is the drums, I always place the H4 very close to the kit; this means that I get a decent level for most of the band straight through the PA plus I have a separate audio track which is mainly drums. Depending on how your band uses its PA there's often no need for a dedicated 'recording mix' through a pair of Aux channels. I simply take a stereo 1/4" jack feed from the Headphones socket into a pair of mono 1/4" jacks for the H4. Bonus points for having a separate Volume control for the Headphones socket ...

  14. I'm just disappointed, saddened and disappointed, to find that not one Basschatter is having a New Year down-sizing involving selling a Barefaced Big Twin at a knock-down price, preferably within 50 miles of Harrow. I don't feel as if I'm asking too much ...
  15. The water, baby, deffo the water. I often record rehearsals for my own benefit and I'd not bother to do that if I wasn't going to actually listen to those recordings, maybe learn something from them. If I've gone to the trouble of making a recording, then of course I'm going to offer it to my bandmates, but without insisting that they listen, learn, and inwardly digest. 😟 I'm well aware that not everybody shares that approach, and offering to share rehearsal recordings has been met over the years with the full range from enthusiasm and gratitude via complete apathy to outright suspicion and hostility.
  16. Hmmmmm. Recording rehearsals can be a classic example of "You can lead a horse to water ...". Don't ask me how I know.
  17. You could suggest that she try getting some lessons in how to do rock vocals ... makes it clear that she's not (currently) up to scratch whilst still being positive about it.
  18. Post a photo so we know what bass you have in mind.
