That’s my CTM100 though a Barefaced Four10, nothing in the PA except vocals. Two loud guitars, loud drummer. Bass is fitted with Nordstrand Big Splits, which are a bit like a P pickup in a fat J housing. Sort of. This clip it’s just the neck pickup on full, and me hammering away in a ham-fisted fashion with a plectrum.

Hopefully gives a vibe of what the CTM100 can do. I bloody love it. Can’t justify it but bloody love it :D

    My kind of Bass player!!

I'm liking the sound of that very much, cracking band and song too!

Hmm, they are both excellent and you can’t go wrong with either. I was blown away by how good the Handbox was though. Super good. But the Ashdown CTM 300 will be my main gigging amp now

My only concern is with Manufacturer back up if anything goes wrong.

I had a Handbox WB100, incredible thing and super loud and light and the Ashdown CTM100, again excellent. The handbox with flats and a pick was excellent mate, believe the hype from @wateroftyne he speaks the truth! Didn't really want to sell mine but needed funds.

Still have my Ampeg SVT VR which I absolutely love and yeah its heavy but well worth the carry and an incoming Ashdown CTM300 Nate Mendel build custom head.

Probably a stupid question but which did you prefer between the Handbox and Ashdown CTM100?

  4. Thanks for the suggestion guys.

The issue I’m having is that I’m trying to get an idea of stuff during lockdown but due to being a pick player most videos are finger style or slap. If there is any pick stuff it’s usually heavily overdriven or muted with flat wounds which isn’t any help to me.

  5. I'm looking at purchasing a valve bass head within the next couple of months, I've discounted Ampeg as I've owned/borrow a couple over the years which I found them  to be unreliable and the eq relatively useless too.

I like the look of the Orange AD200B but the lack of D.I puts me off, what other offerings are there?

Cab wise I'll be using an Ashdown RM610.

I use a Precision bass and play pick style.

There this for sale I here, nothing to do with me

Thanks for the link but I'm after an American Jazz Standard one as I love the profile of it, however a maple board with black blocks and binding has got me thinking though.

  7. Hi everyone, its been a while.

For the past few years I've been over to the darkside playing guitar in a couple of bands, and in my current band we went to record an Ep but due to this damn Covid-19 we're still waiting for the tracks to be mixed and mastered.

The recording was going great and everyone bought their A-game and knocked the recording out of the park apart from the bassist who despite having played the chosen songs for 6 months really blew it, despite offering him help and encouragement.

Anyway..... to cut a long story short I ended up having to track all the bass in an hour (The other guy took 4 hrs and only got 20 seconds recorded which was out of time and also the wrong notes) so time was of the essence and as we couldn't book anymore sessions for 2 months due to being fully booked, it fell on me to lay down the tracks as the bassist turned around and said he wasn't ready to record......thanks for the heads up!

After all was said and done, I've stitched myself up and have found myself back on bass which, after a good long break feels really good and I couldn't be happier!

So after looking about at what the used bass prices were (It's been a while) I ended up finding and buying a 2001 Fender American Precision Bass in Inca Silver with a maple neck and I think its one of the best sounding P-basses I've played/owned.

I need to spend more time with the neck profile as I find it a little chunkier than I'd like however I may end up trading out the neck for a Us Jazz bass neck....if anyone is after a US Precision neck and want to trade me their Jazz neck, please get in touch.

I'm also thinking about putting a black scratch plate on it aswell.

Enough blabbing, here is the new addition:

  8. Most of my career I have spent working in the Highways Industry, originally starting as a Labourer and working my way into a Highways Inspectors role which took me to New Zealand in 2016 and return back to blighty in 2019.

Due to the lack of vacancies in the area I live in, I ended up working on the Railway as a crossing keeper. I manually open and close gates at a Level crossing as I struggled to get through signalling school and pass out as a signaller (Signalman)  - I had previously for a short stint worked as a Service engineer for Southern Railway but have found that the more time I spend in the rail industry, the more I want to return back to the highways due to all the politics and shift work which makes it difficult to find a decent work/life balance plus the salary is no different and I get to work Mon-Fri in the day.

  9. I’m seriously torn between a Sunburst JB-2 and the Sunburst LB100!

I’ve always been a p bass guy especially recording and live but on the last recording I used a Fender USA jazz (Borrowed from a friend) through a Darkglass B7k and Ampeg PF700 into a 8x10 cab which sounded incredible however I struggle with the jazz body shape.

Currently I’m bassless and torn, any help or recommendations would be great as I want a G&L tribute as my next bass!

  10. Hi everyone,

I’m looking at buying an interface and a set of studio monitors so I can demo stuff out in my downtime as there will be no gigs or band rehearsal during this lockdown.

I’ll be looking at recording guitars, bass and programming drums.

Any recommendations would be great including software, plugins etc.

Computer wise I shall be using a Mac, will find out what operating system it is using to if that helps?

My budget is a max £250 all in.

Previous to this I used to Use an Alesis IO2 interface and Alesis M520 speakers with Cubase LE years ago that I no longer have.

    Thanks

  11. It is with a heavy heart that we have to announce that John (our Dave Grohl and good mate) is going to leave the band next year due to a change in personal circumstances. He is going to see out all of our existing gigs that are in the diary, so if you have already booked us, then please do not worry, we will still be doing the show.

However this is going to leave a big Dave-Grohl-shaped hole in our band that is going to need filling. We're sure there is someone out there who can fill John's boots. The full text of the official advert can be found below.
PLEASE SHARE THE HECK OUT OF THIS AND HELP US FIND A NEW DAVE GROHL!!!!

Established Foo Fighters Tribute seeking new Dave Grohl. Gigs already guaranteed for 2017.

The Food Fighterz are arguably the most authentic sounding Foo Fighters tribute band in the UK. We have been going since 2011 and have clocked up nearly 100 gigs in that time, establishing ourselves as one of the top tribute bands in the country, putting out a very authentic, high energy show. We’re not full-timers but we are very professional. We don’t take ourselves too seriously but we do take the music very seriously. We’re out to give people an authentic Foo Fighters experience. We are normal blokes, with day jobs and families, who do this at weekends for the love of the music. We regularly sell out top tribute venues like, the Roadhouse, Realtime Live, The Musician and The Sanctuary.

Our existing Dave Grohl is brilliant and we’re really gutted that he’s leaving (due to personal reasons) but we are sure that there is someone else out there that can fill his boots. If you think that someone is you and you want to play some really decent gigs and earn some pretty good money then give us call.

The ideal candidate will be based in the Midlands and must have own transport but we will look further afield for the right candidate.

We understand that finding some who looks like Dave and sounds like Dave and plays the guitar is a tough ask. The most important part is the voice. Looking the part would be good too (using wig if necessary). Your guitar playing doesn’t have to be to a high standard (as we have 2 other guitarists to fill the sound), so if you can pose with the guitar and play a few power chords in the choruses, then that will suffice.

We are looking for someone who is reliable, has their own transport, is willing to invest in gear to look the part, is down to earth, can do the Dave Grohl thing (without actually thinking he’s Dave Grohl) and is willing to chip in and help secure gigs in new venues.

To find out more about us and to see some live footage and photos, please visit our website www.foodfighterz.co.uk or our facebook page www.facebook.com/foodfighterz. We have nearly 1800 genuine likes on facebook (these have not been purchased).

    Application Process:
Please email us a link to a clear video of you singing/playing a Foo Fighters song (of your choice) and then we will select the best to come along for an audition.
[email protected] or phone Phil on 07790 653309.
