  1. I’ve got a Musicman 3eq Stingray which I’m really happy with apart from I find the eq can jump significantly from the centre decent to just off it.

I’d like a little more control over this and also the ability to boost and shift the mid range seems quite appealing too.

Does anyone use the East MMSR 4 preamp on theirs and can give me any feedback and experience of having this mod?

    Cheers

As far as I'm aware, the VU meter is not that accurate. I'd go by your ears and if it doesn't sound like it's clipping, then don't worry too much about it.

That’s good because it lives in the red section. 🤣

  3. Hi all,

I'm after some advice, the way I have the head setup the input uv lives in the red, there’s no sign of any audible clipping is his ok?

I usually run the gain at 12 o’clock and feel the uv meter doesn’t really give an accurate reading.

I ask as I don’t want to damage the head in any way whatsoever.

    Setup is as follows:

    Musicman 3eq Stingray

Darkglass B7K into the high input

    Ashdown Abm 500 Evo i

    Ashdown Routemaster 6x10 (Horn off)

Additionally any recommendations for a very light comping compressor that I can stick on the pedal board?

    Cheers

  4. So after many questions and wanted posts put up I finally made a decision and it was bang on the money.

After many years of playing precision basses, I’ve been looking at alternatives as I find the USA precision bass necks a like bigger than I like and can cope with.

After deliberating over Sadowsky (Blooming expensive and I don’t get on the the jazz offset body), Warwick (Lovely looking basses but again couldn’t find what I was exactly after) which finally lead me to revisit Musicman.

I’ve had the odd MM Stingray and Sterling bass over the years and I always loved the feel/playability of these but struggled with the onboard preamp mainly because I didn’t really understand how they worked many years ago due to being young and inexperienced.

I finally decided it was time to revisit owning one and see if for once, and for all if I could make it work for me......

Its a 1996 Ash Body Stingray, the colour was what one me over as it’s very pretty but after using  it at practice last night, I think I’ve finally cracked....I still may look into a John East preamp for it in the near future but I’m thoroughly pleased with it.

As usual it’s never an official new bass day without pictures:

  5. I’m certainly torn over the lx 4 & cv 4.

The appeal of the Warwick cv is it’s a jazz type bass but without the offset body to contend with.

I've always been a Fender guy yet the jazz bass body doesn’t really work for me.

The same with USA Precision’s, everything’s great apart from the neck profile which is a little larger than I prefer, I did look around for a used US Jazz bass neck but ultimately they are either overpriced or few and far between. Because of this I’ve started looking elsewhere to see who else caters for this area.

I also saw G&L did the JB-2 which looks to be the ticket yet the Us versions again are quite uncommon too and never in Europe or the uk plus I don’t fancy importing one either.

The Lx took my fancy even though it’s a PJ configuration rather than JJ as I’ve seen a finish I really like in the LX range so was after some opinions.

They have a good range of left handed basses out there but need to know more as it's a crowded field for jazz and P basses below 1000 quid. While I want a PJ on a J body which isn't so easy to get hold of I'm reluctant to pre order before knowing more about them

Exactly this but in a right handed context. I’m keeping an eye for on Thomanns stockist dates then do a google search to see if anyone has bought one before I pull the trigger.

  7. So I’ve seen Sadowsky are releasing and what I call their attempt at a Lakland Skyline range, has anyone managed to play one or even buy one?

They look interesting and something that’d be up my street, granted the headstock logo is a little to be desired but I have heard this is due to a trademark issue that Roger is currently fighting to get back.

    What do you guys think?

My 2015 black/black/maple US Fender Precision, no contest. Recorded our last 3 albums on it (two of which were voted 22nd best of the year albums in the punk genre in the years they were released) did my first few Rebellion Festivals and first few European tours with it. Too much sentimental value attached to it to ever move it on. I love all of my basses but that one also plays the best so aside from sentiment it’s my best bass as well.

What band are you in Lozz?
