  1. Looks intriguing - just released this year by the looks of it. Quite a fun review below. It seems to be primarily aimed at guitarists but apparently tracks well on bass too. Bass focus 4.38 to 5.05 and seemed to be managing to get down to a low G without glitching. Wasn't convinced by the chorus warble with guitar but definitely interested in how @stewblack is finding particularly for octave up which wasn't demo'd on the clip for bass.
  2. You're very welcome. Hope it proves to be money well spent - no doubt you'll be able to share your thoughts with us once you have put it through its paces!
  3. Saw your wanted ad up: ...and came across this in my trawl for Black Friday deals: https://www.andertons.co.uk/black-friday-bass/b-stock-%3A-tech-21-dug-pinnick-dp-3x-signature-pedal-pre-amp-for-bass-81475
  4. A lot of features for the money. Lo cut, hi cut would be a useful by themselves with 100% dry and attack speed settings available for swell type effect. And ability to save presets. Limitation seems to be 7 sounds vs 121 on the SY1. Not sure whether it tracks anything like as good on bass as it does on guitar.
  5. Love to get my hands on a Boss SY-1 but still seem to be out of stock 😞
  6. Hah! Reminds me a little of the practice of 'buying indulgences', which resulted in some chap nailing his theses to a church door. But he was more of a Luther than a luthier I understand, so probably unlikely to result in similar reformation of your behaviour by Sibob 😁
  7. I'd probably be aiming to get there with two pedals rather than one. Two reasonably priced pedals that come to mind are the EHX Pitchfork plus the TC Sub'n'Up which both have polyphonic capability. I see on another thread that you have a EHX Tri Parallel mixer - seems like that could come into play very nicely for this! The non-pedal route would be either a Bass VI or possible playing chordal patterns on an 8-string like the Schecter Stiletto 8 or the Spector Legend 8.

    Boss SY-1

Thanks for all that info Woodinblack and Quatschmacher - really appreciate it. From the comments so far, the SY-1 feels like it's going to be my first choice, given its ease of use, compact form factor as can be seen on Al Krow's board, and the fact that it is fair bit cheaper than both the C4 and FI. But based on what Quatschmacher said that on a bunch of key matters the FI blows the C4 away, the FI would seem to be the one to go for next. Very helpful!

    Boss SY-1

That sounds awesome! I'm likely to only have budget to get one top notch bass synth pedal for now and I'm kinda leaning towards the Boss SY-1 for all the positive reasons that Woodinblack has touched on, with his excellent initial review above. It's also 1/3 the price of its predecessor, the Boss SY-300, which I understand its based on. But if I was to get one of the other two "front runners" the C4 or the FI, instead, which one would recommend and why? Be really helpful to get a steer from someone who knows what they are talking about!

    Boss SY-1

Super helpful post, thanks! 👍 80s / 90s synth sounds are exactly what I'm looking for! Am I right in thinking you've also got a Helix HX from a comment I saw on another thread (I might be getting confused here, there's a lot of stuff I've been trying to catch up on!). From what I understand that has pretty much the same effects sims as the Stomp. How do you find the synth sims on the HX / how do they compare to the SY-1? Really looking forward to your further recordings when you get a chance to do them. Btw what interface / DAW are you using to do your sound clips?

Nice board Al Krow! How do you rate the synth sims on HX Stomp? I guess you'll be able to compare it directly when your SY-1 arrives!

    Boss SY-1

Been a while since I've been on this forum and I see the format has now all been smartened up, although some of the abuse clearly hasn't! 😄 I've been interested in bass synth pedals for live use with my band for a while now and am hoping to get my hands on a SY-1 or possibly the C4, although the C4 does seem to be a bit more of a faff. You seem to be first out of the blocks @Woodinblackwith your SY-1 and mentioned you might be gigging yours tonight? Wow! You found any particular usable settings you're already liking? Look forward to getting more clips / detail about this from you - the fact that it's tracking well down to low B was great to hear! Did you also consider getting a C4 or any of the other bass synth pedals that are currently doing the rounds - seems from one of the other threads, that the Panda Future Impact is also worth checking out?
