1. The cost of the pro case, which you have and the SKB is virtually the same. £130. If you want to protect your bass, my advice would be, a decent flight case. For a few pounds more you can have something built that is bomb proof, protects the neck and you can padlock if you need to. I'm a bit anally retentive I know, but all my 60s Fenders go in a flight case. I don't like the cases supplied with guitars but I know a lot of people do. That said, you should have been supplied with the case you were expecting. Funnily enough, when I bought my first G&L 6 string, I thought the hard case was great, until a few people told me that Hiscox make something better for £99!

3. Interesting topic. Whenever I try a bass in a shop, I never plug it in. Partly because when I was first starting I didn't want anyone to hear how crap I was, and partly because I like to focus on how it feels to me. As I got a better player I still take the view that there's no point plugging in because unless it's my own rig it won't tell me much. I soon realised that some basses are easy to play and some aren't and it has little to do with price. I've come to the view that although shops set up basses, there's not many that really know what they are doing so I'd rather stick to someone one I know to do it. It's interesting to think that if you give a fantastic, perfectly set up instrument to 10 players, some will like it and some will hate it. Makes me wonder if it's all just b/s!
4. I love G&L. I have a swamp ash Legacy Special which I'd never part with which sounds and feels better than any Strat I've played I still think they are criminally underrated and a top notch instrument.
5. Welcome. I'm new too. PS you mention Arry Arris...I was at Maiden's first proper gig. I'm not old though....!
6. I have one of these, also Fiesta Red. The one thing I hated right from the start was the tortoise guard. I know it's authentic but I don't like it....so I got a mint green one from the USA. It's vintage so it has the tug bar holes drilled. Looks right now to my eyes.
7. Meet Mavis. My cat. She likes dressing up....
8. You are right. It's bonkers. You can buy a full Fender harness brand new from the US for about £20! Since I've been into, and buying old JBs, I've learned a lot and its eye opening. It's like running a vintage car and that's the commitment you make. A refin knocks about 50% off the value and I've read it's 10% for each pot or knob. I have no idea why an old JB can sound so good but I've just got an all original 68 and it makes my new one sound and play like a dog....and I thought it was pretty good !
9.
Hi Chaps, I realise it's just a chance in a scrillion - but does anyone have, or know where I can obtain a 1960/61 Fender volume and a tone potentiometer please??
Like this? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-1960-Pre-CBS-Fender-Precision-Bass-Telecaster-Pots-Potentiometers-Jack-/170768181236 I've seen a few at specialists online but they are horribly expensive. Trouble is with replacement on an old Fender is that any changes mean it's not 'original' which may affect the value to some buyers even if the original part is included. If it can be repaired, preferably without touching the solder, that would be best.
10.
Just follow my lead and you'll be OK. Steve has not murdered me, I believe.
Ok will do.
11.
helloooooo nooobs oh btw you have to have a pic of a cat as your avatar - its the new rules apparently
I'm in trouble there...I have a dog not a cat. Is it ok to get him to wear a disguise ?
12. I played drums in a band from Uni onwards, then when that was to loud and unwieldy, took up guitar. The more I got into blues and funk the more I realised I needed to be playing groovy basslines, so I treated myself to a Jazz. Although I'm struggling to get proficient, I do think it helps me to be able to play by ear and have experience on 6 string. What hacks me off is that most (not all) of the bassists I admire are black and I'm wondering if they have a built in groove factor or is it just practice cos I can't get the same feel as they do!?
13. I've been referring to this forum for ages so I thought I'd join up! A little about me....I've just bought a lovely vintage JB and I adore Tal Wilkenfeld. ( her playing is pretty good too....) Be nice to me..I have no idea what I'm doing or how this works. Cheers, Chris
