1. Yes, it is good fun. Some one asked me if we had any CDs...!
 2.
Aw. I thought I was telling a guitarist joke
So did I...
 3. So, at the tender age of 50, last night was my first ever actual gig. Despite our regular rehearsals, I messed up in the first bar of the first song. As we play originals, only the band noticed! Uphill all the way from there and we completed the planned set list - 8 songs in total. Still grinning to myself now...
 4. Ta. Makes sense. Nice image for a blob of solder...

 6.
I can't see anything that looks like a ground wire going to the output jack...
Ah ha! Good call. Where would it run fom / to ...? There is an earth to the bridge, usefully.
 7. Picked up a set of Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounder pups and a Hipshot drop D tuner from Guitar Guitar in Epsom. Happy Bunny....
 8.
Fixing stuff is great. Managed to replace the brushes on our washing machine last week ! Basses are much simpler and you dont get covered in carbon. Its very satisfying to fix ones own, especially electrics. However i managed to burn between my middle and ring finger by dripping hot gun glue on it last night night trying to mend the new Vox bass amp plug thingy i got for christmas, having carelessly snapped off the jack plug. Jeez never mind lit cigarette ends; use a hot glue gun on someone and they'll sing like a canary ! It hurt like hell and i today have two blisters so be careful out there. Intonation screw: the ones at the back of the bridge that move the saddles back and forward to fine tune string length and the intonation.
Aha! Ta very much.
 9. I mean to say, it looks a bit amaturish...
 10. It's probably not 'news' to most on her. but I was suprised how tatty the original wiring is. .

 12.
Actually a good idea
Let us know how it goes...
 13.
Prog rock? Awesome news...you will blow them away at the next one
Ha ha - no, Paul, more like 'Pop Rock'...
 14.
Even more fun when you start cranking truss rods, shimming necks, moving bridges and sawing bits off intonation screws. Get stuck in!
Umm, the other bits I know, but what's an intonation screw ...?
 15. Cheers all. Rehearsing tomorrow for the next appearance. Apparently we need 8 songs sorted for a 30 minute set, but might not play them all. Kind of 'over preparing' it... Gulp...
 16. So, anyone been to Vintage Guitar Shop...? Looks good on t'interweb.....
 17.
Great stuff - what tunes did you do?
All originals, Drax. Lexy, the key board / singist, writes songs. Lots of them. All the other acts were doing covers....
 18.
Do the different noises on the wooden bit where you put your fingers have names then?
Mine are Dicky Boy, Stewpot and Marvin...
 19. Took a major step on Monday at an open mic night in Bromley. Drummer, keyboard / vocals and me, doing originals. First time I ever played live, so I was glad we had time to rehearse on Sunday. Bashed out three numbers in what felt like 2 minutes, but was actually 18. Now we are booked in as first support back at the same venue on 13th Feb. Daunting....
 20. Nice one Shell! See you at another bash / gig / etc...
 21.
Oh my god, how do you not know of KiOgon's wiring harnesses? He'll put together a P-bass wiring harness made out of top quality materials for a great price. New pots, knobs, capacitors....everything! PM him now, he'll sort you out Truckstop
Umm, not sure how I hadn't, but not heard of a lot of things...! The standard cannot be described as a 'loom' - right mess. Hw do they drill the hole for the bridge earth wire...?
 22.
WRT pots there are cheap rubbish ones on the market, but provided you get the replacement from a reputable guitar parts seller, there's not much to chose between them. I get most of my parts from WD Music in Kent. You could change the pickups and get a e different tone. Some people here have their favourites such as Seymour Duncan QuarterPounders. What do you think of the sound of the bass as it is? Does it work?
No - nothing happens when it's plugged in. As I mentioned, the volume knob just spins around and around. Kind of prevents a 'before and after' comparison. Been looking at a set of BassLines on t'interweb...
 23.
Any plans for modding the bass?
Apart from a Hotshot for drop D tuning, not really. That being said, any suggestions for 'better' pots and pickups? John.
