  1. Did another trade with Jason, this time getting my old Valenti Jazz bass back which he kindly looked after the last fifteen months.

I'm over the moon with its return to the fold and Jason was first class to deal with again.

The man is a top basschatter.

    Many thanks.

  2. I bought this new from PMT and yes I put the scratch there. Truss rod was a bit sticky and I forced the issue. Freed up the truss rod just fine but my cack handedness left the fine, hard to see from anything other than close up scratch on the treble horn.

Superb example of a Ray 35  - lightweight, low action, superb dark roasted neck, classic looking black guard on vintage sunburst.

I only gigged it a handful of times but I did use it on a promo video

Pete's a great guy to deal with too!🙂

  3. I had both USA Deluxe HH in 4 and 5 strings. I really liked them, especially the 5 and in retrospect I don't know why I got rid. Reminded me a lot of a StingRay 5 in the neck feel, profile and string spacing. Sounded stellar too, especially the in between settings (both inner and outer coils) No drop off in volume between settings.

Price on these is going up from what I can see. They were silly cheap a while back. Not now

  4. I picked up a V5 24 fret. Colour is more subdued in person. Camera on my phone makes it look brighter than it really is and doesn't capture the soft almost pastel hue under artificial lighting.

Really impressed with the fit and finish of this bass.(fret ends could have been a bit tidier but sorted that) This V5 could well be a keeper!

  5. G&L L-2000. Perfect for the genres you listed.

I love the USA MM Sterling basses (neck to die for) but from my experience I find they are mids heavy compared to StingRays (which is not a bad thing unless like you is not the sound you're after )

2EQ StingRay? Have that lovely top end with big bottom sound.

    All imo

  6. Withdrawn from sale.

USA Tele Acoustasonic. Superb condition, low action, great player.

Spruce top, mahogany neck and body, ebony fretboard, bridge and

knobs. Has a Fishman under saddle piezo + internal body mic and Fender single coil at bridge plus the really rather clever Fishman sound engine which models a number of acoustics.
Comes with original Fender Deluxe gig bag, charging cable, manual, hang tags etc no cash offers or trades as I already have eyes on something else (unless you have a StingRay 5 with maple board)  Guitar can be auditioned in Market Drayton. Could possibly meet Stoke. Crewe, Telford areas. Will post if buyer arranges their own courier service and level of cover.

  7. Met with Tim and traded my Bogart for his Stingray 5. Really easy to organise trade from start to finish and was great meeting up, talking bass and swapping stories. Tim is a top fella and a credit to this forum!

Thanks for the coffee by the way🙂

    Cheers

  8. Ray 4/5 = 2 EQ/ceramic humbucker

    Ray 24/25 are 2 band EQ/ceramic

    Ray34/35 are 3 band EQ/Alnico

I had a couple of HH Sterling models(Ray34 and Ray35) The switching on positions 2 and 4 gives both inside and both outside coils)

You've still got the bridge humbucker on its own so yes, just extra options (edit: which do all sound different)

  9. The USA made Sterling basses haven't been in production the last few years.  Still showing on the EBMM pages though so guessing they will be back at some point.

The USA StingRays are now either (apart from limited runs and a Mike Herrera signature model)...

the Retro 70s which replaced the classic series (slab body, 3 bolt neck, 2EQ preamp, vintage bridge with mutes)

'Special' series (neodymium pickup, 18v 3EQ preamp, 5 bolt neck)

short scale Stingray (30" scale length, passive with 3 way rotary + boost)

DarkRay (Special series with 2EQ Darkglass preamp with onboard distortion and fuzz)

5 string wise  - Specials and DarkRays plus a 35th Anniversary model.

Posting "I am done, GAS is over" to be followed by selling on/replacing every single bass within days/weeks. And repeat

    I resemble this remark.

Also arranging two hours drives to meet up at a service station, audition each others bass in the car park and then geek about bass over a coffee inside.

BC is now totally conflicted. On the one hand, "well done on achieving a state of UnGAS". On the other hand, "eh?".

I know. 'Tis a strange set of affairs.

He I didn't. Very nice but although the neck is comfortable, and it sounds really good, I didn't really get on with the neck profile.

Shame was not the one for you Mike but has to be right or whats the point? Nevertheless was good talking bass for an hour. 🙂

Re the profile I should say it's quite a chunky neck. Not uncomfortably so and it's not a U shape either but a deeper shouldered fuller C shape if that makes any sense.

  12. Now on hold pending trade

SKC Bogart Sport 5 string custom built by Stephan Hess in Obernburg am Main in Germany. Bought from lowregisterhead on this forum a few months ago.

Blackstone body -  various composites wrapped round a spruce core and finished in Alpine White with carbon fibre neck and phenolic composite fingerboard.
The pickups are USA Bartolinis and the preamp is a Mike Pope Flexcore with 4 band EQ. There is also a switch for coil tapping  the bridge humbucker.

    Scale length is 35"

string spacing at bridge is 19mm

    weight is 3.6 kgs
Amazing bass with super playability, fantastic tone and killer looks. Comes with hard case.
Bass is in excellent condition with no cosmetic, mechanical, electronic or structural issues.
Bass is in Market Drayton, North Shropshire.

Would trade for a StingRay 5 in similar condition with maple fretboard. Trans teal or trans red would be my ideal choices but colour not a deal breaker.
