I am after a passive 4 string Jazz bass and that finish is living in my head rent free today. I love it and currently trying to formulate a plan on how I can buy one

Bought Tim's Lakland 55-02 off him today and it's a lovely thing! He very kindly offered to meet halfway and took one of my TC 2 x8 cabs in part ex.
Thanks agaim Tim. The bass is superb. Really appreciate you holding it for me.
Cheers!

And I pulled out of the blue one as I was waiting on a sale that's now happened! Unfortunately I'm being sensible this month due to life demands. Very tedious.
I feel obligated to say buy this purple one and let the rest take care of itself

I owned this bass for a year and a half. I bought it from Paddy and sold it back to him in a moment of weakness 😂. And I would have bought it again had I not just bought the blue/maple 55-02 on here.
This purple/ebony one is absolutely stellar and it's typical of the breed - but just that bit nicer still. Easy to see why so many players favour these basses. They're super versatile and sound great in a band setting.

The "Pre-Cort" version would be those made by Greg Curbow in Atlanta.
Greg teamed up with Cort to gain a wider audience for his ideas on ergonomics and synthetic materials. His own place was only building 10 guitars/basses a month but Cort's facilities could really ramp up production 🙂 That was around 2002. Greg passed away 2005 and Cort kept production going for a couple of years longer.
I don't know how Tanglewood ended up with the design, they did a bloody good job, but it was post-Cort 🙂
Thought I'd a photo of my two together but nope.
Cap on the Tanglewood was nuts 🙂
I worked in a music shop that was selling Tanglewood Curbows in the late 90s - red or blue with ebanol boards, singple pickups with slapswitch and matt hardware. I definitely didn't see any Cort branded Curbows until a number of years later.
Read that the UK model was initially branded Tanglewood and later changed to Cort which would explain the situation. So Tanglewood being "pre Cort" is about right from my experience even though worldwide they were likely released at the same time, just not here in the UK.

Had the pre Cort version, the Tanglewwod Curbow in deep red finish with Mighty Mite pickup and also a Tanglewood Canyon 3 fretless which used the same body shape. Always had a soft spot for them too

Notice the cheeky wee TCE 2x8 cabs, cracking little cabs 👍
They stay at home now but I like them far too much to sell them.

I would have preferred the Z3 to the Z7 I had. The Z3 has the straight ahead 3EQ and no neck pickup to get in the way. I like the popsicle blue colour best but I'd have one of the sparkle finishes too.

Love my John Taylor 5 in black. The Neve preamp is super sounding and the passive tone control is full of goodness. Such a great bass!!

My old bass which I owned just short of three years. The Sledge colour is a proper chameleon and goes like this in direct sunlight or under stage lights....
As far as I know this is the only officially imported rosewood board Sledge Sabre imported by the official UK distributor.
Also Robert is a top basschatter and straight up guy.
GLWTS!

The 55-60 I had was a fantastic bass - I bought it from Paddy777 on here with an East J Retro preamp but once that was out the bass seemed better for it imo (limitations on the J Retro in passive mode being the main reason)
I doubt I've had a bass action that went any lower and played rattle free. (iirc either Plek'd at the factory or at set up/QC in Chicago - not sure which) It was a fantastic neck on the 55-60 - more traditional profile than the Sadowsky Metro Express 1st gens I had which were flatter at the back. The width on the Sadowsky 5 necks the further you go up always niggled me a bit as well.
I like the Sadowsky tone for the amount of boost available but the lack of passive tone control became an issue for me as well.
I cant speak about the gen 2 basses as I haven't owned one but I would wholeheartedly recommend a
55-60. They are lovely jazz basses imo.
Also for what its worth I would say try a Cort NJS5. Beautifully balanced output and tone across the neck and really special basses for the money they go for.

Some of you will have seen this on the ACG pages - my RSK 5/35. Picked it up from Alan in September after a 7/8 months build time from the deposit going down.
I enjoyed the whole process of spec'ing my own bass - I specifically asked for the pickups to be pulled back towards the bridge and a little closer together and I'm pleased how that turned out.
Still getting used to the wildly capable filter preamp!
Definitely an experience I'm looking to repeat 🙂

I think I may have played this bass when picking up one of my ACGs from Alan. There was also a lovely green Graft Plus 5 string there that day as well. Fantastic looking Graft you have - I think this colour is called Purgatory iirc

I have two Sabre Classic pickguards for sale. These are for the 2013-2016 reissues. Not sure whether they will fit a pre EB or 80's EB Sabre.
Blue abalone, ordered from Armstrong guitars. I think this was on the cusp of them stopping using WD as there was a delay in getting it when they switched supplier
Blue mirror is from Pickguards.com/WD
Both have a bit of playwear but perfectly usable
£35 the pair + postage

Picked up this 2025 NG-3 5 string in Ferrari Green. Bit of overlap with my John Taylor 5 but the different characters come through when you start turning the controls. A nice touch is the neck binding 🙂
