  1. I've owned three Classic Sabres - the sunburst and natural went to basschatters and my Sledge with rosewood board went to Bass Bros a couple of days after this one sold and then itself sold within 24 hours.

These are great basses. I've owned a couple of StingRay Classics as well and there's no comparison imo. The Sabre's versatility wins out every time. I'd also have a Sabre over a StingRay HH as well.

If I hadn't stopped buying 4 string basses I'd be tempted by this.

  2. For me it was always Jazz basses or StingRays.

I like jazz basses for the bridge pickup and also the two pickup 'hollow' tone. I prefer 70s spacing to 60s as well. I like passive Jazz basses and active Super Js equally. Nowadays jazz basses have largely stopped me playing MM anywhere as much as I used to.

P basses have never really done it for me. I've had a few nice ones but the last one I had I spent a few rehearsals wishing it had a J in the bridge.

    P/Js.....I like those too.

  3. Bought Waynesworld's Doug Wilkes off him at the weekend. Sound, feel and playability are top notch. Been taking it to rehearsals and the Sadowsky Metroline stayed in its bag the whole time.

Bodywork is tulipwood/poplar and the 24 fret neck is birdseye maple. I think the pickups are Bartolini MMC and the preamp is a Bartolini NTMB+F.

  4. I bought a Mooer Power Supply for a pedalboard from Richard. Excellent price and was delivered really quickly. Updates were really good from Richard's end as well.

Richard was the guy who sold me the fabled Valenti #042 way back in 2008 so for me will always be a top seller on basschat.

Not quite a Valenti this time but will be using the PSU this afternoon at band rehearsal so all good.

Many thanks Richard. Much appreciated 🙂

  5. Bought a Line 6 Bass Pod Pro from Simon. When it arrived it had clearly been knocked around and/or thrown in the back of a van by Royal Mail. Turns out the power transformer has come away from the main board and the unit can't be powered up. Simon refunded me straight away and has been a top fella throughout the transaction. This is yet another example of why buying on basschat is the positive experience it is. Many thanks Simon. Greatly appreciated.

  6. Bought a Hardwire HT6 PolyTuner from Ed. Top basschatter - Ed messaged me to say that his spare HT6 had an issue when he gave it a check over so sent me out his main one. Things like this make the basschat buying experience as good as it is. Many thanks Ed, much appreciated

  7. I recently got a Euro 5LT from Bass Bros with the Fishman Fluence pickups. It was a lovely thing and sounded great....

...but I should have known the neck profile would be too big, having had a NS5 CRFM and Euro 5LX the guts of twenty years ago. I sold the bass  but I'd genuinely love a Euro 5 variant with a less chunky neck if such a thing exists.

    I love that fingerboard!

Warwick seems to be doing an excellent job with their Sadowsky venture.. I've got a recent Metroline and the construction is flawless, as good as it gets. How these basses are put together is a testament to German precision engineering. No gaps in the neck pocket, sharp fret ends or misaligned hardware. Other bass builders please take note.

Regarding the narrower nut width, could it be the neck on your Special Edition has Will Lee specs, ie 1 3/4 inch rather than the standard 1 7/8 ? That's about 3mm difference. I would have thought they would have to do one or the other due to the specs of the Adjust-a Nut they have available.

Absolutely spot on re the quality. The fit and finish is insanely good. Going to have to check out the Will Lee. Whenever I see the regular J/J and modern 24 five string basses they've got the wider neck.
