1.
I might come along in the hope of getting a snog from
Nellie

Hahahaha - you thought I was going to say
Dood
then didn't you?

We'll do our best to get there if Tinman hasn't already swanned off to the States for 3 months :)
One of the above has been caught gnawing on tables and licking their nether regions, the other.. *for ten points insert your own punchline*
No interest in this then?
I think it has been discussed.. I think its all a case of cost to produce.

  2. Guys.. you'll love this.... in an emergency, I once recorded acoustic guitar using....... the cartridge and styles from a turntable!!

You have to get the stylus to rest gently on the bridge, unhindered by the cartridge (in the same way that it does on a record.) Depending on where you sit it, you'll have a multitude of different tones available. I found that the treble side of the bridge was good.

The only downside to a great guitar tone, was that the pickup will pick up every tap and scrape from the top of the guitar. - The cartridge was a pretty good one too ;o) - You don't need an RIAA phono preamp or anything, but a channel strip will do fine to get the gain up.

  3. It will be fine, however your pedal is designed to work at 'instrument level' and your effects loop is more likely to be 'line level' (simply put, a much stronger signal).. you *could* overdrive the pedal into distortion with the signal possibly being 'too hot'. You wont damage the poweramp itself though. Turning down the level on the pedal probably wont help.

  4. Hey Chris.. sounds like something is a bit wonky! I have EMG pups and EQ and it only distorts on my multi' when I dig in, in passive mode.. yeh, I'd get it swapped out mate.

Nicks a good chap.. spoke to him just t'other day.. they sort ya out!

  5.
How would you describe the sound of the head, I was reading the bassplayer magazine review last night, and they were waffling on about it having a "buttery sounding preamp, with toothsome mids, and a smooth syrupy top", sounds like they're describing a cake.
I just had a slice of mine with a cup of tea. Nyum nyum.

I can see where they are coming from with the description above, as it is easy to get the 'butter'. Probably the first amp that I have owned that did it really. Its like a smooth upper middle sound, when using the VLE and VPF controls. As opposed to VPL which is something entirely different. However whop those 2 controls down to zero and I think the amo is in Epifani/EBS territory. Pristine and crystal clear. I have renamed the VPF to 'The Ampeg Control', as it seems to do a good impression of my SVT as you advance round, especially with a bit of external dirt added. Too far round and you have a really deep scoop with boosted lows and highs. Seems like the right bit of middle gets scooped out too.

One word that I do agree with though, is PUNCHY. Last night I disconnected my multicomp compressor. It hasnt got near the rack yet lol. The amp really will kick, not unlike my powersoft poweramp.. and that is 1K RMS a side!

  6. Ya know, I'm not sure! but my singlecut is lighter than some 5 stringers I have played, thats for sure!! To be honest, unless you have asked specifically for a rather large chunk of wood.. that thin string that makes up the upper horn part really isn't adding much to the weight of the bass at all.

I'll tell you what was heavy... I owned a Bill Dickens signature Conklin 7 string, (I think thats what Finbar owns, but mine was red) and mine was a weighty example! Though I had tried another GTBD7 and it didnt give me such grief!

Oh.. I also have *those* back issues!

  7.
I really like the look of single cut basses (I know not everyone will agree with me)
I'd really like to try some out, but I don;t know whomakes them other than shuker?
Are they a custom build job only?

I don't own one myself, but just out of curiosity - do these instruments balance well? (it's a bass design that has grown on me over the last year or so - particularly like Tom Kennedy's Fodera 5).
Over to the Dood & 7 String for this one?
    Cheers,
    iamthewalrus.
Well in case it hasn't been seen a few times already, here is Doodle:-

I think most of the obvious Luthiers have been mentioned already (in the UK) - I think most will entertain the idea anyway, just a case of seeing what they will charge. Probably best to go with someone with a design you like and can tweak maybe?

Do they balance well? Any bass has the potential to not balance well! My Shuker 7 string has a large headstock and 7 keys to contend with.. and it balances extremely well. I am very impressed. You *could* in someways call the Gibson Thunderbird a single cut. We all know the unfortunate neck dive situation with those!

I really do like Singlecuts. Some people really do have a marmite reaction to them.. but hey.. its only opinion. The fact is though, they are every bit as good as their doublecut counterparts... and every bit as bad as too ;o)

P.s. - Doodle will be at the bass bash.

  8.
Just a thought - closer to the actual event a list of gear that will definitely be present should be generated so there's not vast amounts of duplication,
Yes, great minds think alike.. we do *usually* have said list available prior to a meet for the reasons you suggested!

  9.
p.s dood please tell me you'l be bringing doodle along????
Oh yes... and the new rig as well if anyone is interested.

  10.
I love mine and it my main Bass, I not a L42 fan and didnt get the bass because it was a bass designed by MK. I wasnt getting on with the traditional s2 shape status , and had a tried a KB and loved it .

What i have found is you need to let the bass sit with the neck pointing away from you body at about 40Deg, the bass was designed to be tucked in under your armpit how MK plays
I also very much like G-77's bass... and this time I have planned my escape route with it at the bass bash lol...

I think the kingbass is a bit 'marmite'. Having never played 'mark king' style slap before, it was odd how my technique changed as soon as i tucked the bass under my arm. A good example of this is in the bass bash video. I am usually a thumb down player, but found myself going 'thumb up', as it was more comfortable.

  12.
No. There's far more to a speaker than the cone material but as it's the most obvious feature to a layman this is a great marketing trick.

Alex... Alex... is that you? ... Someone has stolen Alex and replaced him with.... ummmm....

  13.
I think you'll find that it's the same as a 12AX7/ECC83. have a look at thisor Google 7025.
Hi guys, you all know what this is! All Valve PRO preamp from the monsters of bass tone ;o)

AND this one comes with the added bonus of a brand spanking new set of Harma Diamond STR valves in. These fine examples are a Telefunken (ECC803s I think) replica that are some of the best around!

    http://www.watfordvalves.com/products_harma.asp

Pre is in great condition as you can see. There an odd bit of rack rash on the top and bottom, and a little bit round the rack ears.. but no marking to the front panel.

The SVP is on sale as I now have a Mark Bass F1.. and I am making a silly mistake selling it.. but I'd rather do it before I change my mind.... oh.. and I REALLY need some new tyres for my motor!! ;o)

£300 . I can not haggle on this.. you are however welcome to come pick up. PM me as I will get an email notification through...

    Dood.

***The SVP is the full all valve preamp section from the SVT2 PRO valve head. Ampeg no longer advertise this preamp on their website as it has been discontinued. Own SVT tone for a fraction of the price! ***

  15.
Got a couple or three suitible candidates for your attention over here Dood ..
Some of the strings even light up :)
OMG!!! I reckon some of those pretty lights could find a new home too!!! Although my bass neck will end up looking like a landing strip!

  16. Deano, there has also been a cuppla threads recently about buying power amps, in this forum. You may wanna check those out too for some useful info. The Thunderfunk's specs look great. As John has said, user's warwickhunt and bassjamm both have ones for sale at the moment.

Are you after a particular sound? This may influence the answers you receive! e.g. - "dirty grindy tone with loads of bottom end" or "Clean Hifi" or "Punch and warm"

The pre/power solution is fantastic if you want to play around with upgrades in the future. You can keep hold of the preamp and change the power amp seperately, should you feel you need to.

  17. I think that is a fair comparison! The LM2 I would say had the more old skool sound and the F1 more modern, but I would jump straight in and say that the LM2 isnt woolly and the F1 isn't sterile (Which is usually my first thought when someone says one amp is warmer or one amp is more HiFi for example.)

Not sure what the neighbours think yet. I think they may have emmigrated!!!

  18. 100K impedance passive volume pedal with input and output sockets.

You can come pick up for free, or £8 will cover postage etc.

This has lived in my box, in my cupboard unused for a rather long time. Un gigged.. infact, never left the house.

It looks like all of these.
