1. Hi! Welcome to the forum! The Cookes shop is just down the road from me.. you're not in Norwich per chance are you? I'm not really sure which of the two combos to go for, I'm sure we'll have some peeps who know these amps better than I.

Just saw the Cookes website first!

Good luck! I hope the reunion will relight that bass playing fire in you!

    Dood.

  2.
Well I bit the bullet' and ordered some ER15s today from Boots in Cheltenham. I can change the filter within 3 months, so happy with that. I also had a hearing test; quite interesting really. Normal up to 4k then dropped off 20dB up to 8k.
Apparently about right for my age and musical history!
Good on ya mate!! You'll find that you will become acustomed to the new way of hearing, if you can call it that.. then I reckon you'll ask yourself why you didnt do it years ago! I know I do! ... mebbe just a tad too late for me as well!!!

  3. Hi folks.. I have been reading the Harmony Central reviews for this compressor. Finally found a unity that actually has a parallel compression function on it, instead of having to route cables all the time.

I have been using parallel compression on my gear for ages and I love it! (albeit with the afore mentioned routing!!)

Just looking to see if anyone on the board has tried the C series compressors from TC? (Especially for bass)

  4. Holy cr@p!! you kept that one quiet!!!! More pictures!!!! Absolutely fantastic! - I'm loving the Shuker headless basses that are coming up now.. I know 100% for sure that I made the right choice now! Johngh's headless 6 was a clincher, so very nice.

I think I have typed enough exclaimation marks now. Congrats on a super bass!

  5. Yes, Doodlette lives lol!!

The bit that I am most happy with at the moment, is that the body is actually a bit longer than a standard Elite, as I am very critical of the positioning of the headless tuners on the body and the effect it has on shifting the neck away from the body. by shifting the lower horn and extending the body a tad, this will be eradicated. You'll know what I mean if you have played a steinberger for example. the first fret feels ten miles away lol.

The body shape looks so natyral. I'm very pleased. Can't wait to see the paint samples! They are gonna be great!

  6.
If your first bass is the Doodle, does that make this one the Diddle?

Nice to see some progress BTW. Mine was started before yours and its still in bits as far as I'm aware...
I ws thinking of going with the Autin Powers 'Mini Me' theme lol. Not sure how yours is chap.. but i think this is a very recent pic, so its likely you'll be due some as well in an advanced state of construction?

hah a ha ha ha!!!!! That's very good... As much as I loved Billy Sheehan's Yammi BB3000 , I dont think I'll be going for the same colour scheme!!!

  7.
come on now Daniel, dont be shy, I shew you mine - now show me yours!!!

    :-p
But yours has clothes on.. mine doesn't lol....

    Here's Mini Doodle!

Ok, so there's not much to see... but I love her already

  8. You should find that the front grill should pop off on the Ampeg cabs, The Speaker is then screwed to the front of the baffle. Lay the cab on its back, remove the screws and lift the speaker away from the hole.

Your current speaker rating will probably be fine with your amp head to be honest. Although buying a 400W cone sounds like a great idea and will work.. I suspect you probably wont notice any difference with this particular Ampeg cab box; if you wanted to be critical about how compatible the new speaker is with the cabinet size, you may want to read up on 'Thiele Small' parameters. These parameters in conjunction with the size and design of the cab define the resulting frequency response, amongst other influences.

  9.
OK, a few more questions.

Do you get all 3 filters with the ER9/15/25? If not, which is likely to be the best choice? The website I just looked at suggested the ER15.

If I then buy the matching ear monitors (T15 I think) how do I connect them up to a monitor system?

I could go wireless, or presumably you can hard wire in-ear monitors. I seem to remember seeing a small unit to attach to your belt which connected to the audio out from the mixer, and you plugged the in-ear monitors into it, but I'm b******d if I can find it again. Maybe it was a weird dream!

And if I go wireless, does anyone have a view on which system to go for? They seem to vary in price a lot from just over £100 to £600.

Hope I haven't hijacked this thread too much. :)
You only get one set, and replacements / changes can be up to 70 quid for a pair. 15's are good for an average band.. I would suggest 25's for a rock/metal band!!!
I use 25's all the time, just because I have got used to them.. I also think they do break in a little too.

There are different ways of attacking the in ear system! Ped plugs his in ears straight into the front of his POD XT PRO and takes a feed straight out to the PA. The POD is designed to do this and you need no other hardware.. earphones, POD and bass... thats it!!!!

You could, like I have in the past, take a feed out of your backline into a little mixer to drive your earphones. The nice thing about this, is you can obviously mix in feeds from other people too! so in your ears you could have exactly the mix you want of other peoples signals. So there's just a couple of hardwire solutions, you are plugged directly into your gear.

You mention wireless IEM too.l. yup, the 'reverse' of a guitar wireless system, you have a little box on ya belt that you plug your earphones into and a transmitter that you plug your amp/mixer/POD into. Shure, Trantec, Beyer Dynamic, Audio Technica and Senheisser all make really pro systems as well as more afordable ones. Prices do vary! and £600 is still cheap in comparison to the really top spec stuff which include the moulds and..well... i think you get a haircut and pedacure at the same time as the fitting!!!

You haven't hijacked the thread at all chap!!!

  10.
Hi All,

I need to get some ear plugs, and I want to go for the best.

I've been reading through this thread, but it's soooo long I got confused :)

Can you tell me the best choice for a moulded ear plug please - I would also like to add in-ear monitoring at some stage, so can that be added to the same ear plugs?

    Cheers

    Martin
The moulds for ER9/15/25 are such that with an adaptor from Etymotic Research, you can plug in there own in ear monitors systems. Thus the moulds can be used as hearing protection OR with in-ears. Etymotic also sell under the names Elacin and Heros (Heroes). When ayone refers to the ER range of plugs, they are refering to Etymotic Research. There are other companies out there doing in ear monitors. I think some of the best 'all in ones' are made by "ultimate ears".

If you are after just straight cheap and cheerful (yet surprisingly good) ear protection, then look at the ER20 range. These are not moulded to your ear and use the funnel shape ends. With the plugs seated properly (so many seem to get it a bit wrong) you should get 20dB of attenuation and not too bad a sound. I found that I couldnt wear these for too long as I have very narrow ear canals, as I porved when I compared my ER moulds against my mates ones!

I know this sounds boring, but do go back and read through the thread with a good cuppa.. all the salient info is right here for you.
This link has probably already been posted, but won't hurt to put it up again: -

    http://www.hearingprotection.co.uk/musicians-protection.htm

I have used these for years. They are expensive, but are undoubtably the best. Think of it as paying for your ability to hear and the cost seems somewhat less significant.

The main advantage is that they have a level cut across all frequencies, meaning that the music isn't affected by un-even attenuation.
Yep, these are the Etymotic Research attenuators too. As you can see, under the Elacin name (same company)

  11.
i also got a quote from dan lakin for the same spec and he quoted $4200! $800 to put blocks and binding in.
For real???

  12. I do like the fact that at least the report is outlining ergonomic issues and addressing them.

Without wanting to blow my own trumpet, A large % of my Shuker was based on ergonomic improvements as opposed to pure aesthetics.

  13.
Jon is a true gentleman and a phenomenal luthier, he's working on a project for me at the moment.

I realised that I'd contracted him to do some work without actually seeing or playing any of his work in the flesh, but I have to tell you, once I got there, I was amazed at what he produced. The quality is just astounding. I was much more impressed with his basses than some SIGNIFICANTLY more well known and expensive basses that I've seen and played. I didn't get to try loads of different ones so I can't tell you how they all sound but the ones I did try were great, I don't think you can go wrong opting for a Shuker.

    Mark
+1 (million). Nash, the JJ basses sound great, they really do. Jon is a damn good chap.

  14. Apparently Malmsteen really threw his toys out the pram and had all his 'parodies' removed. I think they were the best... "I am your new god, I am the greatest" heee heee... anyone else see them? My other favourites include John Petrucci's guitar lessons and talking about his amazing rig, that no one in the universe can afford... lol

  15. I have 2 CIJ Fenders. a P with 'US Vintage pups' and a 1989 Power Jazz Bass Special with..well.. what I believe were pups modelled on '62 P styles.. That I have no idea about. The P sounds great, but the PJBS P pickup is very very different in every single way. I really love it! - I have no idea why it sounds like it does, maybe it has aged, but it has a honkyness to it, but the bottom end is fuller in comparison and a different timbre altogether. The P is clean with a deeper bottom end, put sounds far more like the bass acoustically than the PJBS.

  16.
Me'heh  I know, I know..

    Thanks for the welcoming words!
