2.
It would appear we share a former band Ed... I played with Stiddy and the lads until he did off for better things
Gunslinger? Gawd, it's a small world. Bliddy good band that was, I still have some demos somewhere....
 3. Wey aye, it just needs a gook howk to straighten the neck. It's a Fender thing....
 4.
Very Nice How much did it set you back? Rodders
799 - Could've got one for less on t'internet but I do like to have a good old rummage if I'm spending that much, don't like to take pot luck, I want the best one in the shop! It wasn't really an impulse buy to be honest, I was intending to get a 70's classic but this fella was soooo much nicer and only 200 and odd quid more with that indestructible case they come with. I'm well happy - it sounds fab and plays really well. If this is typical of what Fender are knocking out these days then good on 'em!
 5.
What happens when you go out for a pint of milk?
Heh heh!
 6. ....and came back with this! I was fiddling around with the basses in Sounds Live in Newcastle, mainly to have a go on one of those 70's Classic Jazz Basses (pretty nice actually) when I spotted this fella hanging on the wall. 2008 Jazz Bass in Olympic white with a tortioseshell scratchplate and maple neck. Got it down for a twiddle and just HAD to have it. It's far and away the nicest Jazz I've played. Just a tweak on the truss rod and a slight lowering of the action was needed and Bob most certainly was my uncle.
 7. I lent a bass to Danny McCormack from the Wildhearts once. Does that count...?
 8. I've got a heavily modded Geddy too - actually it's just the neck from my Geddy, which never really sounded the way I wanted, mated with a 2004 black USA S1 J bass body (I didn't like the neck it had on it...) with a Badass 3 and some nice old 70's Fender tuners added. It's now magnificent - looks fab and sounds fabber, with the added advantage of the Geddy neck! This one is truly mine. It's the first one I reach for for gigs, every time. Oh, and I put the leftover parts together and got 350 quid for the resulting bass (which was pretty darn good, actually....)
 9. Well, found these for sale here - http://www.andertons.co.uk/acatalog/info_0..._medium=Froogle for 449 quid. What you all think of that price? I reckon it represents pretty good value bearing in mind what I've read about these basses from over the pond - haven't seen much in the way of negatives. Build seems to be very good indeed.
 10. Yeah, I had a Marcus Miller. Fab bass apart from the huge scratchplate - just looks wrong. Decided I couldn't get away with it any longer and sold it to fund the '73. I believe the routing under the plate goes something like this...... So you can't just put a normal J bass plate on.
 11.
\m/ \m/
Metaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaallllll!!!!!!!!!!!!
 12. Taxi cab!!! Erm. Yeah. Sorry. Well, most of the basses that've grabbed me tonally have been around the 500 quid mark luckily (cos I can afford that.) HOWEVER I did pay over a grand for my most recent acquisition, but it was worth every penny as it sounds marvelous when cranked, and will only appreciate in value Win/win.

 14.
I'm not so sure. There's an element of 'if it aint broke don't fix it' here. Fender must have seen that anything radical they've done over the years has met with limited success but their classic designs keep on selling and selling. They know they have the name and they know we love their classics. I don't think it's a case of them resting on their laurels , rather it's prudent business thinking.
Agreed. I've been playing on and off for 25 years and in that time I've either owned or played pretty much everything from Jaydee to Status, through Gibson and Ric and more recently Sandberg and Alembic, and I always come back to the Fender Jazz. Every time. I mean look at them! They're big and solidly built, have the most graceful curves (still being copied to this day,) if the urge takes you, you can customise them to suit your preferences, they suit EVERY kind of music - looks and tone, they play beautifully, balance well and do exactly what it says on the tin - no messing, no faffing - affordable, well made, well designed, non pretentious basses. I love Fender!!
 15.
hi,i've got one of the MIM 60's jazz's shown here http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=20186 & it is massivley better than a std MIM bass,it creamed an H1 i tried & in fact plays almost as well as my P bass. it cost me £540.00 after some haggling. so don't let the MIM thing put you off build quality is better than some MIA basses i've tried.
I just looked - that Jazz is gorgeous!!
 16. I've just cottoned on to why Fender are releasing these now! Up until recently there was a pretty large market in the US for importing the Japanese "non-export" instruments, of which a large proportion were the '70's reissues. A few months ago I read that the US government had made this illegal for some reason (they do a lot of things for apparently no reason, governments do...) so these MIM basses make perfect sense! I think they're gorgeous but I'll probably not be getting one, like. Here's why..... Here's one I made earlier
 17.
But the inlays , the correct bridge p/u positioning , they'll flog plenty. And plenty more if they put the S-1 in. Will it have a 3-bolt plate though?
4 bolt plate Bit strange actually - they have the 4 bolt plate from the earlier '70 J's and the bullet truss rod nut from the later ones. Still, the bullet's preferable to having to remove the neck every time you need a tweak....
 18.
Anyway.. what do you want one for? if you're going to talk like that, I'll have mine back.
Ah, you can never have too many 70's Jazz Basses I like the black one....a black scratchplate would look fab on it.
 19. New from Fender - the (MIM) Classic Series 70's Jazz Bass... From the Fender Website - "Our ’70s Jazz Bass® captures the essence of the decade; defined by striking cosmetics and a bright, full sound. The ’70s saw the repositioning of the bridge pickup (closer to the bridge), creating a brighter tone that cuts through the mix. The biggest cosmetic upgrade came in the form of gorgeous block inlays and neck binding, which are highly sought after by many bass players. The bullet truss rod completes the visual. Seventies-era Jazz Bass® guitars are widely regarded as the basses built for funk. The offset waist, ultra-slim neck and vintage-style alnico magnet Jazz Bass® single-coil pickups all make this bass very comfortable and familiar." http://www.fender.com/products//search.php?partno=0132000300 These fellas are on presale in the US for $699!! Want one!!!! Now!!!
