Would any of you know if the necks of the CV Precision are interchangeable with any of the other CV or VM Jazz 5 strings? Prefer a narrower nut if possible. Thanks

That’s the kind of thing I’d been thinking about and looking at. Owen came to the same inevitable conclusion that I would have ended up at. Normal strings are too floppy in these short lengths and mag pickups won’t work with all the various combinations of polymer strings.

Think I’ve seen that one or something very similar on eBay. Not sure what scale length it is?

Anyone found a 5 string version anywhere of these 23-25” scale basses. I’m that taken with my 4 string I’m considering getting a 5 string neck custom made and having the bass go through some surgery.

Is it just me that thinks how strange it is that for ever we’ve been using bass amps as monitors that rarely sound anything like the sound foh. It’s all a bit fools gold really unless you’re mic’ing the cab?

How do FRFR cabs compare to bass specific powered cabs - only one I know of is one of the GRBass models but I’m sure there many more out there

Thanks both. They sound fairly bright which surprised me, not sure how old they are. Do they take a while to break in?

Personally I can’t get along with narrower than 18mm. I have a Warwick non broadneck 5 thats 17.5 and as much as I’ve tried, I love the bass, but can’t get comfortable with the spacing. The nut end doesn’t seem to bother me so much, I’ve got a Dolphin Pro1 and I think the nut on that is 44mm and compared to other basses I have with 38mm it isn’t a problem. For me it isn’t the fretting hand but the plucking one that I have a problem with.

You can’t go wrong with Yamaha TRB 5er, as Henry mentioned various Warwick Broadnecks are adjustable width at the bridge upto 20mm ish.

Have a set of mystery flatwounds on a bass I’m sure someone will recognise. Headstock end has red silks, bridge has black silk and enamel(?) ball ends in red E blue A white D red G thanks

Oh that’s right you were there behind me while I was doing this weren’t you? I preferred it when you had given up. The noise does not stop when I touched the strings or any of the Earth points with my fingers, only when I touch an earth point with a metallic object. Your assumptions on what I had done or played the bass are just that, assumptions and in this case incorrect ones. It was a recent purchase, I played the bass for maybe 20 minutes purely to check for problems and found a mechanical issue with the pickup - no interference. That is why the guard came off. Please stop assuming things. Whatever you think you aren’t omnipresent and always correct. Now, can you remember previously writing “I give up” ? I’ll go with that answer thanks🙂

Yes as it says, it didn’t have it originally or was not noticeable. Not I don’t remember. It is noticeable now, since removing the pickguard and when the pickguard was refitted, which is why I posted here for advice, not a disagreement or a diagnosis about my memory. I’m not sure what your point is Hellzero or what you think you’re winning or who you are helping? It would seem not.

I’m sorry, so I understand your reply clearly, are you trying to say I don’t remember if the problem existed or not a few days ago? When I wrote “find the cause” I was referring to why the problem started when it didn’t exist a week ago. It wasn’t fully shielded then either.

Thanks for that Hellzero. I’m just trying to find the cause of the problem, seems a fairly simple set up. As I stated somewhere earlier in this post, the noise started after removing the pickguard and refitting it. I’m sure an expensive cable may resolve it but can’t imagine that is the only solution. It also didn’t have the noise without the whole cavity being shielded before, so it should be possible to get back to that state.

Thanks for the reply. I may be missing something here but I’m not sure what difference the pickguard being in place would be? The bridge Earth is still in place and nothing else on the body is earthed or screened.

I’ll get a video up of it later today hopefully. Currently there is no shielding in the cavities and a minimal amount of very old foil on part of the pickguard where the pots and jack are. There is no apparent corrosion of the output jack and I don’t get any crackle moving the cable in the jack.

No nothing has been changed or added. It’s bass straight to amp.

To add, I don’t generally have problems with interference or electrical noise where I’ve been trying this bass, I don’t have noise problems with other basses in the same environment- cable - amp etc.
