1. Ok, I think I'll post something too Here's my main band's vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H5H6A4J_49o And here's an excerpt from a live DVD I recorded 2 years ago with a band called Strawberry Fields: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aOVzAyGZXIs There are some more videos of me with some of my bands (and some of my basses - current or ex) somewhere on YouTube but I think these are the least embarassing
2. My small Mazda 323 does the job for me... But if I get well-off enough to buy a newer car, I won't say no to a well-kept Focus.
3. I cannot express properly the sheer power of my GAS for a full-bodied headless... I want one so much! Especially a 5-string fretless... Status, Sei... Those things are pure 80s-style beauty!
Old Skool headlessness... Fretless Status S2000 5 string:
Mat!!! Didn't think I'd find you here! Do you still have that Status? I've never seen that one! The picture doesn't show, btw...
4. Ahhh, I had an old Aria Pro-II. It was a Rev-Sound Bass - I'm sure it had a symbol like RSB-something, but I can't remember... Nice bass, although a bit uncomfortable for me. I recorded one full album with it and several songs on two others. Bought it for peanuts (it had been in a horribly neglected state), sold it rather cheap too... I've had some other Matsumoku basses in my hands - great stuff. As an 80s child (born in '79, started to develop some early taste in music around '83-'84) I'd love an SB-1000 but they cost an arm and a leg...
5. Ahhh, Alembics This is my baby - a bass I intend to keep forever: It's an Essence 5, "post-facelift" version. I absolutely love it. The tone is uncomparable to anything else - it's clear like a bell! It doesn't work everywhere, it needs more room in the mix than Fender basses for example, but when you know where and how to use it it's like nothing else on the planet I've had some problems with it (the neck is VERY meteopatic, the volume control went south - it's disconnected atm - and good luck finding the jack input replacement, lol) but the sound and feel more than makes up for the truble. I've recorded an album and used this beauty on most songs - it worked just fantastic. It's a keeper.

Jazz

Ahhh, the Jazz Bass. Probably the most versatile bass ever - the "one sound fits all" kind. Every man and his dog has one but there's a good reason for that Anyway - as a proponent of the thesis that a fretted Jazz sounds and looks best with maple board and 70s pickup layout (and as a man without enough spare change in the pocket to buy an original MIA 70s Jazz) I got meself a Geddy. And got rid of the pickguard immediately because black + maple = sexy. I've had this bass for a bit over 1.5 year now and this is the one that gets the most practice time at home. I also wish I played more stuff that doesn't require the B string because this baby definitely deserves to be gigged more!
7. Annnd here are mine 2 fretless babies: '84 Ibanez Roadstar II and a Malinek fiver. Believe it or not - they're both the same 34" scale After much shoulder and back pain and even more bumping the headstock agaist various stuff and other band members (plus difficulty finding a gigbag and impossibility to squeeze this mostrosity into my small car's boot) I promised myself my next fretless 5 will be headless. I also keep telling myself my next fretless 4 will be a Wal but I keep hearing my wallet and my bank account laughing ironically...
8. Well... I happen to own one white bass. It's a Malinek fretless 5, made by a relatively little known Poilish luthier Ernest Malinowski (he's dropped the Malinek moniker, now he calls his guitars Malwood). Heavy - VERY heavy - ash body, maple/wenge neck, lined fretless rosewood fingerboard. Unfortunately, the EMG DC pickup messes everything up (too much lows, ugly, "detached" highs, not enough singing mids... usual EMG story). I used to love this bass (especially considering the fact that I bought it for peanuts), I recorded several songs on 5 albums with it... I'd probably change the pickup to a Bartollini for example but 1. I cannot be arsed, 2. it's too big (the headstock!) and heavy for me and I'm seriously - and I mean SERIOUSLY - GASsing for a headless fretless 5... which I can't afford atm. So, for now, the Malinek stays. It's a good bass - but not exactly what I need anymore.
9. Hi all, I've finally decided to register... And I know I'm not the first Pole here My name's Jarek, I've been playing the bass for 18 years, which is over half of my life... I live in Warsaw - as some of you may probably know, it's a capital of a beautiful but neglected country called Poland. I've recorded several albums but somehow always failed to get sufficient income out of playing to make music my main occupation so - since I "didn't need no education" (which means dropping out of uni) - I always had to do menial jobs that would enable me to keep myself alive AND have some spare time to spank my basses. Now I'm "self-employed" and provide my services as User Care Support to a rapidly growing Polish social media website for proffessionals, which is quite a nice (even if a bit underpaid) job, actually. I've been playing a wide variety of music throughout my "career" (inverted comas are meant to be there ) - from hard rock through gothic rock and prog-rock to neofolk and shanties. Actually, I still play the last genre (along with some folk-rock and Polish rock covers) with my cover band (which is also the only band I've ever made regular money with). My main band is called Night Rider - what we play is essentially hard rock with a dash of Marillion and Dream Theater-inspired prog rock. We've just recorded (and released) our debut album My main bass is an Alembic Essence 5, bought 2nd hand several years ago - it's my ultimate bass I intend to keep forever. I also have a Fender Geddy Lee Jazz (which I like a lot), an '84 Ibanez Roadstar II fretless (which I like) and a Malinek fretless 5-string (which I used to like). I plug into a Carvin R600 head and pump air using an SWR Henry the 8x8 (with Night Rider) or a DMNF 1x15 (with WZM - the shanties/folk/cover band). That's about it
