  1. I owned this one, and sold it only because I have another fine BB from the same era.
They deserve their reputation, and the lightish weight of this one can be an advantage for many players.

This is an excellent bass, and @SurroundedByManatees has fixed the little flaws I had not noticed when I had it (he did find a missing bit meant to lift one pickup upwards that was left underneath the pickguard !)

  2. Played it again, loved it, will be keeping it.

    Fender Precision made in 1978

The colour is a rather uncommon trans (wine or cherry ?) red over a book matched ash body.

100% original as far as I know, apart from the Fender spare bridge cover which I bought new with Fender screws.
I'll send pics of the guts and neck pocket (S8xxxxx under the pickguard as well as on the headstock, J Flores, FRR37, FRR44 stamps on request).

    41.7mm at nut

    4.6kg approx

Frets are in very good condition.

The finish has serpent skin-like cracks on the edge of the body, it does absolutely not fall apart, and a thin superficial layer peels off, on the upper side of the back only (seems that when you scratch it with your fingernail it comes off and leaves a proper finish underneath, that might be an old layer of polish or something).
I've read this is happening on some of Fender's finishes from 78 and 79.

It plays absolutely perfectly and sounds really good : superb overtones and loads (yes) of sustain, focused lower mids.
Really reactive to your playing style, from the subtle to the punchy dub / punk.

It has been cared for during its life, no dirty marks of slapping or plectrum around the usual areas.
Comes from a retired musician in a French variety band : no aggression but long sessions of playing, resulting in a very resonant instrument (a bit of story-telling).

Comes with a £100 worth tobago hard case.

    Price : £1590 or 1800€
Located in Northern France, over to London once in a while. Shipping is not a problem.
My feedback can be checked, I've met a few members irl.

    Now the pics

I will regret it but I have to sell a bass for money, and will keep the cheaper BB1000 I've put up for sale for now as a placebo year-of-birth-Pbass

  3. The tuner works perfectly despite the bad looking bolt, that must be the exact same size as the original.
There are some serious scratches on the bass (note the 2 parallel lines on the right hand side of the bridge), but the solid natural finish makes them hard to spot from a distance (and with a camera)

The board is ebony on those, from the BB1000 upwards, not rosewood, hence the nice grain, and fine attack, closer to maple to me.

I'm starting to wonder if I should not keep it and sell my YOB Fender P to make the cash I need.

  4. Now sold, please close.

Yamaha BB1000 made in Japan back in 1978

    £570 / 650€
Shipping costs at the buyer's charge (should cost from 25ish quid), can drop it in central London at no charge on Tues 26th Feb if on hold.

Top of the range bolt-on Broad Bass

    Alder body, reverse P pickup

Quarter sawn maple neck, ebony fingerboard and super cool inlays.

    43mm at nut

    A decent 4.3kg

The bass comes with its original hardshell case
Not in pristine condition, some dings and scratches, and a bump in the finish at the back of the neck (shown on the pics as best I could) that I can't feel when playing and that could easily be sanded down, but so you know.

All original APART from one screw that I have had to change on the bridge (absolutely the same as the original one), and a weird looking screw at the back of the E tuner, perfectly functional.

    Now set with Fender flatwounds.

What can I say apart from the fact that is is a 40 year old P bass killer, 1 single owner before me (not the tidiest)
I absolutely love those old BBs, they are punchy and sensitive, only selling this rarity as I need some cash, and have a BB1200s that will fill the gap.

I'll take better pictures when I have more time.

    Shipping is not a problem.
    My feedback can be checked.
    Not sure about trades.

  5. I do not know how they did that, but the Dimarzios do behave on this bass, not as aggressive as others I've had a chance to try, but the output is still higher than on a Fender P.
A chance to get a free bass for the price of the pickups :)

  6. NOW SOLD
And soon to be dropped in London.

You like a P bass, but still, you want MORE ?

Up for grabs is this Vantage VP710B, made in the Matsumoku factory in June 1980.

I'll give more details and add better quality pictures asap.

All original (not sure about the truss rod cover as it is blank, but looks original)
The body has some dings and scratches, the neck is in excellent condition, frets are fine too.

PLEASE NOTE that the nut is loose when you take the strings off, it would need a little glue, but works absolutely fine.

3 way selector, 2 volumes and 2 tones.
The neck pickup for the D & G strings is roughly where the Reverse P of the Yamaha BBs is located, which sounds sweet.

Not too heavy (less than 4.3kg, I'll double check)

Located in Northern France by the ports.
Shipping is not a problem, I have a sturdy chipboard box, and would cost £25 to £40 I guess.
Please check my feedback, no worries.

Sorry for the low quality pics, but this is an impulsive sale.
