1. Looks like another fantastic day. I was at some horrible wedding but shouldn't have bothered, pretty much split up with the girlfriend on the day anyway so kicking myself. If I had known there would be lab puppies I would have been over come hell or high water. Huge thanks to everyone involved, spreading the message and good vibes of Basschat. I reckon 'bashes' however big or small are a big part of what makes us such a friendly and honest community. Honestly this bash sounds absolutely idyllic. I can't think of a better way to spend a sunny afternoon. Lots of nice gear there too by the looks of it and it would have been great to have met you all. Cheers ped
2. I am sure it will do! I am just giving it a once over and I will record some stuff with it next week for fun. I just finished playing it now, it makes a good 'training bass' because it requires more effort to play. It sounds cool, too. Cheers ped

Tables

Hmm not sure... perhaps best to print screen and paste one in from Excel?
4. Don't be so sure!! Mwahahaha!! Lovely to meet you mate - seems we could have chatted all evening! Maybe I will sell the Epiphone and spend it on an AP Royal Oak Offshore from TZ!
5. Do they both have truss rods? A neck without one will sound different, but it is then more important that the neck profile and relief is to your taste. Can you try either of them?
6. Aye, at some point... No idea what price to ask so will research it. Probably not a great deal though!
7. Relatively cheap, too. I thought it would be twice that price.
8. I just picked this up from basschatter Tredders. He has kindly given me the bass as a donation to basschat - so it may be sold and the funds used for the site. At the moment I am cleaning it up and setting it up and it is good fun. It's a short scale and has a really nice neck. The sounds are quite weird and couldn't be more opposite from my every day bass, but playing it is great fun and it makes me appreciate my own bass all the more! The sound of the back pickup with the tone back is really nice, burpy and funky. A really nice change, anyway - and most importantly great fun! Here are some poor pics, haven't got my camera at the moment: After a quick clean and resoldering headstock Fresh out of the car boot, pre cleanup
9. The depth of that thing is mental!
10.
I've read on some PA forums that the 'powersoft lookalikes' have a higher rate of failure due to cheap components and sub standard forced air cooling. Ie.. the fans a woefully inadequate for the power of the amplifier. I guess the price would dictate that ultimately.
Aye probably. I need no bells and whistles as my Vbass feeds the poweramp so just needs to amplify the signal and being digital there is no need for a fan. Apparently it has been used a lot in its former life without any problems so fingers crossed!!
11. Who cares, just have fun and the rest will fall into place :0)

Pre Gig Rituals

13. I would think the need for that is negated by the low cost - meaning you can have twice as much power on tap for less money?
14. Here's mine Kiwis is exactly the same but black and rebranded by someone else, mine only says 'D800'. Kiwi's was advertised as a 'Technical Pro DA-B3000' Search for Technical Pro on eBay at the moment and there are some powersoft lookalikes but haven't tried one of those.... Cheers ped
15. Me and Kiwi both have very similar amps - mine is a 'noname' 800w digital stereo 1u poweramp and kiwis is 1200w I think. You can get them from the states via eBay and the voltage is switchable. Mine is really shallow, like a rack tuner. Amazing bit of kit, full, strong sound and very cheap. Mine was £90 second hand and I think Kiwi paid about £150 all in. I will get a link later as I can't use eBay at work. I wouldn't have any worries trying the Thomann one, probably very similar internally to much more expensive ones. Well worth a try, I think. If anything, the Thomman one seems expensive in comparison!
16. P.s I can't see the pics because work blocks photobucket etc but I bet it's gorgeous!
17. Modded budget basses are cool. One of the most enjoyable basses I have had was an OLP MM3 with a status neck. It was just groovy and fun, in a way which is impossible to replicate by throwing money away in search of it.
18. That test is actually something different - what you see by pressing the first and last fret is the RELIEF of the neck, i.e how much bow there is in the neck. Some people like a bit of bow to compensate against clank when playing. They say the 'textbook' amount is a credit card's thickness under the middle of the neck between the string and the fret when the string is pressed at the first and last frets (actually I think they normally say about the 3rd and 17th fret) Personally I like almost no relief at all, so I would look for a bass with a perfectly straight neck, or as near as I could get. I can then get my action super low, and because i play very lightly, it suits my style and growls when I dig in. Different strokes for different folks! Cheers ped

20. Pete did you email us to ask if it was OK to post this? Just to let you know we hadn't checked the inbox for a while but I skimmed it last night and meant to reply to your email to say it was fine - apologies for not getting back to you before. I am looking forward to seeing Steely Dan on the 29th - I have seen lots of tribute acts before and often found them better than the real deal! Will definitely check you guys out soon! ped
21. I am a fan - I like Mama's Gun and Baduizm Live. I listened to some others quickly with a view to buying them soon but got a bit turned off by the slightly more 'electric' direction - drum machines and so on. The live version of Boogie Nights has a lovely slap break in it and is a really well produced live album.
22. V4 manual here mate Definitely call Watford Valves as SS73 says. They often have stock sitting around. I managed to get a matched set of valves for a 400+ for about £100 from them. Cheers ped
23.
Haha, I knew that was going to turn up sooner or later! I have, of course, but they get used already during the set, so getting back to the 'right' level every time isn't going to be particularly reliable. I need something idiot-proof that I don't have to fiddle with in the dark on stage.
Pah, just admit it - you want a new toy!! :0)
24. Corrected the typo!!
