1. Thanks for the help guys. So most of you are saying the Schaller 3D. I'll say it again because I don't think anyone has seen my later post. I was asking about the holes in the back of the bridges for putting the strings through. How big are they specifically on the Schaller? I use two basses for my band with drop C and drop B tunings. With my current bridge I've had to drill holes to fit the heavy gauge strings (45-105 for C and 50-110 for B ) through the back. I don't mind doing it with the Schaller but I'd rather not if I can avoid it if you know what I mean.
2.
Some more pics I found on Fender's flickr:
Nice! That bottom picture. That black bass, ohmmmm. I want it!
Bet you weren't expecting to see your lunch again so soon, xilddx. Enjoy
It does look a little bit phallic. I kinda like it though. It makes a lovely change from the standard headstock.
3.
might of been like stone but that's a hell of a long time for any strings to last so if you were happy up until then, that says very good things about them!
I wasn't that happy, but I was skint! Haha! I just looked down one day and noticed all the slime on the fretboard and the strings. I'm now back to clonky sound of new strings and loving it .
4. Jazz Bass all day long, and then some. My first love. Whenever I look for potential new basses I look through countless different models from countless different manufacturers, including Warwicks. Then what happens? I land right back on a Fender Jazz. The looks of the instrument, astonishing. I mean they probably have the nicest looking body shape of all basses. That neck too. Perfection. Even if it looked disgusting, it'd still be immense. I mean the sounds it can produce. It's the Swiss Army Knife of basses. That's why you can spot them in smokey jazz bars all the way up passed busted up, packed to the brim punk and metal venues and on to massive stadiums featuring sellout rock artists. Versatility. I personally think that Fender struck perfection on the second time round (sorry Precision enthusiasts). Your Streamer might sound gorgeous and has its own pros and cons, much like the instrument that my heart belongs too, but it'll never hold a candle to it.
5.
I'm bombed down by out goings costs quite often so it's rare for me to get a new set of strings but when I do I get DR's, They really do last and I Spent 2-3 years on buyings Medium Gauge prosteels before this (Still great strings by the way) but I brought a bass that came with DR's on and the difference was incredible, and more importantly, I could do a few gigs with my old band (Death metal... sorry guys ) and the sweat would destroy a set in two gigs + practices in between. I can usually ride out around 5-6 months with a set of DR's (I do clean my strings monthly and I only do bedroom jams now just to confirm, but 5-6 month is a lot of bedroom playing!) and they still have a nice "Zing" to them and they still feel nice! Yes I'm a tramp when it comes to buying strings but DR's last a long time so in the long run, I (from my personal experience) end up saving quite a large amount of money. Cai
Haha. Last time I changed mine was the middle of December.. They were practically like stone. Some lovely fresh ones on now though .
6. Thanks for the feedback so far. How are the holes at the back of the bridges? I've had trouble threading heavy gauge strings through bridges in the past. I've had to use a drill on one of mine to widen them.
7. The three manufacturers of bridges that I hear about the most. They're all high-mass sexiness but which one deserves the crown? I want to hear pros and cons. I want to hear which you'd recommend. If there are are any other cool bridges you can buy I want to hear it. GO!
8. I tune my bass to Drop C so I've been using heavy gauge strings for a while. I always go for the Ernie Ball purple bass strings. I think they're called 'Power Slinky Bass'? Well it was time to change my strings yesterday and so I nipped into town to the local music shop. It's a small shop and has very limited stock, but I can usually find what I'm after as they have a decent selection of strings. This time however, they didn't have any of the 'Purples' so I had to settle with some different manufacturer and gauge. I went for some lighter gauge (45-105) Rotosounds as they were the highest gauge they had and I thought they'd do for now until I eBay the ones that I actually wanted. Well lets just say I don't think I'll be getting Ernie Balls ever again! ^_____^
9. Jim Dunlop do a set too: http://www.jimdunlop.com/product/bass-guitar-strings--stainless-steel They'll cost you about £20. Billy Sheehan's custom set from Rotosound are stainless steel too. They're 43,65,80,110.
10.
Beautiful, but why do people put tort guards on custom-colour Fenders? It's WRROOONNGGG Si
I like it. Reminds me of a green olive
11. I've always wanted a Danelectro Longhorn. They're just weird. Love them. I'd get two and mod one into a baritone .
12.
As much as I like Torti Scratch Plates I don't think it would look right on this. The White 3 ply has faded to a nice cream so I'm going to keep it as is. The Machines on the bass seem very solid, I guess because they've hardly been used.
Yeah keep it as is. Maybe get a white pickup cover instead to compliment the strat knobs? I think that'd look sick. Tort pickguards look cool on blue instruments but not on that shade. If it was more of an electric blue I'd say go for it. Definitely get the white pickup cover though. It'd look proper smart.
13.
Is that a Fender colour..? Never heard of it.
I think if it were it'd be like a brown-lavender kinda colour.
14. I think they call this serendipity my friend. Love it. I wish I had people chucking free basses at me! Lucky guy. EDIT: yay thanks phone for posting what I had to say twice! Woopieeeee!

16.
When you're fretting a note, the nut material becomes irrelevant. If a brass nut did affect tone or sustain, it'd only be on open strings.
I've heard that it helps even when fretting. Not sure on the physics behind it but it might be something like, even though you're fretting, vibrations still travel up and down the neck regardless. Well, so I've read from different sources. Not sure if they're totally accurate though or it's just in their opinion.
17. I was considering doing this too. But for different reasons than for repairing and maintenance. I play metal and I heard it makes open notes a bit more brighter and with more sustain. I was also going to load it with some stainless steel strings and use a pick. I heard having a brass nut has benefits whatever style of music you play though. I say go for it! Let us know how it goes.
18.
The guy in the vid is hardly selling it to me with the crappy plectrum tone
What? You're joking right? Sounded pretty damn snazzy to me. Playing with a plectrum isn't a bad thing..
19. I made a thread last week regarding getting my hands on an FGN Mighty Jazz. If I were to get one I'd have to ask around their mainland European distributors in order to get one, i.e, Norway, Sweden etc. I messaged FGN on facebook asking of they had any distributors in the UK and of they'd ever consider getting one in the future. I was surprised that they actually got back to me! This is what they said: "Dear James McNevin, Thank you for your inquiry about FGN Guitars. Unfortunately, we need to find an exclusive distributor in UK if we have to sell our products in your market according to the confidential contracts with some OEM brand companies. If you know some famous distributor in UK, please advise. We'll try to contact with them for you. Thank you very much for your understanding loving with FGN guitars. Best regards, www.fgnguitars.com" Does anybody know some reputable UK websites or shops that could potentially do this? I can think of GAK but does anybody know any others? Cheers, Kiev.
20. I think it's the culture. Very polite and they put so much effort and respect into their work.
21. Alright cool. This is the one I was talking about from Norway: http://www.gitarhuset.no/product/3024197/fgn-emj-al-r-mightyjazz-bass-3-tone-sunburst Not the maple fingerboard like I originally wanted, but that's an Elite as supposed to a Standard. But the one in the link is equally as sexy in my opinion. . I'll keep looking and saving those pennies.
22. Okay it's a done deal. Getting one. I see on their website they have some European distributors. There's one I particularly like in Norway. I'd have to see if they'd ship to the UK though!
23. Oh no..importing stuff..now it's starting to get pricey. I have experience buying things online from Japan, and a lot of sellers don't do Paypal and you have to be a resident of Japan to buy using a card/bank account which means there's a lot of middle-man fees. Never done it with such a large and heavy thing before..I'd dread to think how much it'd cost. I'll check those other brands you've mentioned too. There might be something I like better that actually exists outside of Asia .
24. I like researching some of my favourite bands (metalcore boo-hiss!) to see what instruments they endorse. I noticed a few of them endorse FGN. I was immediately intrigued as I've never even heard pf FGN, plus it's not the usual ESP/LTD, Schecter and Ibanez you would come to expect from these sorts of bands. After checking out the FGN website for the first time this evening, I really REALLY like the look of the Mighty Jazz, more specifically the tobacco burst with maple fingerboard. I'm a lover of Jazz basses and I honestly think this is my new front-runner for a new purchase. If I were to get one I'd probably also consider adding possibly an Aguilar preamp. I'm wondering if anyone out there has ever tried or owns an FGN Mighty Jazz as I would love to know what you think. Also, where the hell do you even buy one? I understand they're a Japanese brand, but honestly help meeee! Cheers, Kiev.
