I loved Northern Exposure! Back in the mid 90's I used to work all over the place and I spent a month at Microsoft headquarters in Seattle one December. The place they filmed the show was about 80 miles away, so I took a drive over at the weekend, ate breakfast in the Roslyn Cafe, checked in the radio station etc. it was magic. It was supposed to be Alaska, but it was actually Washington State. I also visited the town where they filmed Twin Peaks on that trip. Rob

It was the first gig of the new blues band last night - The Out and Out Blues band - https://theoutandouts.com/ The Gregson Centre in Lancaster, four bands on, fundraiser for the Gregson and Lancaster Music Co-op. We were first on at 7.30pm and did a 45 minute set. A decent crowd, and very appreciative, we went down very well, and I even got them singing with us at the end, at 8.15pm! The other bands were great too, and there was a lot of comradery amongst the musicians. I used someone else's rig, Mark Bass 1x12 combo with a 2x10 extension cab, with my '73 P Bass. We were very pleased with our performance, and it's probably the best "1st gig" I've ever played. Now we have to work up the rest of the tunes for our first full 2 set gig on the 18th. I'm no expert, but if the rod hasn't broken and the neck isn't cracked then you're probably ok. I have the exact same bass too, also from 2003. I got mine a couple of months ago from @walshy of the Vintage Bass Room. They are lovely. Congrats. Rob

I have indeed, all band gigs are bass now. I do the very occasional unusual guitar gig, the last being "Alien: The Musical" at West End Playhouse in Morecambe a few weeks ago. A four show run including a Saturday matinee. It was an absolute hoot to do. I am also soon to be playing guitar for a 15 year old young woman for her Youtube channel, performing her latest tune alongside other musicians from the Playhouse. One of her offerings has had half a million views! The guitar playing side is more just helping out with community stuff, my main focus for myself is bass. Just back home from the second band rehearsal today! Jazz band afternoon, blues band evening, gig on Friday.

Ahh no, SC staying home that weekend. I'm planning to use the Bergantino with two ONE10's, as I can use just one of the cabs for my quieter gig on the Friday at Holmes Mill. Sorry Shug. I know you love a big rig, I'm not sure a single SC would cut the mustard for you.

Is anyone from here playing over the weekend? I'm not sure how I have managed it, but I have three gigs at the festival this year. Friday night at Holmes Mill with Katoush (instrumental jazz). Then two on Sunday, 2.00pm Aspinall Arms and 7.00pm Rose & Crown with The Out & Out Blues Band. I do know that @shug is at the Rose & Crown on Sunday evening because he's on after us. We've decided to make a weekend of it, so we're staying Friday to Monday in Clitheroe. Rob

Yes. Martin Garton who did my Bassman does it sometimes. You can dismantle CTS pots into all their component parts, clean each part and reassemble. I’ve never had to do it with a guitar though.

I enjoyed it because I love 70’s Precision’s, and have a couple quite like the one in the video. I’m fairly confident with my own setups and soldering and could do everything he did with that one except the fret dressing and the nut. I’d love to learn those skills though, but I’d need a decent workspace and some quite expensive tools, and I just can’t justify it given how much work I would actually do. We do have a workshop, but it’s become my wife’s “woman cave” and is now a ceramics studio with a big kiln in it! I’ll look into that cleaning method. I have perfected the opposite process ironically, ie aging metal parts for relic projects. Rob

I enjoyed that thanks. My toes curled when he started snipping all the wiring off though. I wonder if that was really necessary? I’ve never had to break down a pot yet. CAIG Deoxit has always worked for me. Question. What was the thing he put all the metal parts into to take the rust off, and what was the solution he used in it? Rob

The 100 is cheap secondhand, capable, and so very small and light (you can pick it up with one finger), that I just wouldn’t consider a 40.

Yes, I agree. I have one, the 100, great rehearsal amp for my jazz and blues bands. I’ve not gigged it, but I reckon it would be fine. I got mine for £150 off Facebook. Rob

I’ve never seen a 60’s factory black with matching headstock before. It’s a very cool bass, and waaaaayy out of my league.

There are some very good suggestions here. I also have a Trace Elliot Elf and Barefaced One10 cabs, great little setup. I also have a Fender Rumble 100w combo which is bonkers loud for the wattage rating, and I use it at most rehearsals now simply because it’s so convenient, and sounds so good. The 500w version can be picked up quite cheaply secondhand too. Rob

That does look nice Tony. It’s slightly cheaper than the ‘73 Jazz I bought from them last August too, but I suppose that’s down to the guard. It would be interesting to know if there are holes under the guard for the tug bar in the earlier position. Rob

I bought Peter’s Nux wireless system yesterday and he delivered it to my home on the same day! Obviously we had to have a bit of a chinwag. I’m very glad to have met you Peter. Rob

I “intend” to use it with the BF cab. It may look like an early 70’s Bassman, but it’s been rebuilt from scratch by Martin Garton (Gartone Amps), and the only original parts now are the chassis, cabinet, mains transformer and choke. Yes, it’s still a 50w head based on the Fender circuit, but it’s essentially a new amp internally. It does sound really good through the Super Compact.
