1. I think Old Git had a scarf (or was it .......a cravat?) damping the strings but I might be wrong. I use a block of foam (the same stuff that lines equipment boxes). I found the strings ring out and the harmonics interfere with the clean note. Damping removed the problem immediately.

  3.
I have a small problem with my newly acquired Stagg. I’m getting a rather worrying clunking/rattling noise when I’m playing “enthusiastically”, or digging in, as I believe it’s called. It sounds like the top of the spike inside the body of the bass is rattling around as it moves while I’m playing it. Being quite tall, I have the spike almost fully extended. It’s not so bad when I lower the spike and play sitting down. Anyone else had this problem? If so, what did you do to cure it?
Ive got a similar problem. I cant work out how to get the spike out to try and reinforce the housing. Its unfortunate cos Im trying to get a bit of slap going and the rattling is getting amplified. I suppose less enthusiasm is the solution :)

  4.
Ok having a clear out to raise funds:

    Jim Dunlop Bass Wah
    Boxed with instructions, works perfectly.
The base plate has velcro on the underside where i switched it round to put it on my pedalboard. Please note this is on the reverse so you don't see it if using it normally
    Looking for £65

    Boss SYB3 Bass Synth
Cracking pedal, in top condition. Has velcro on the base (in between the rubber so can be used normally)
    Looking for £50

May be able to include shipping in there, otherwise may be a couple of quid. Pics up soon!

    Cheers

    PMd for the SYB mate

  5. Its not the cheapest option in the world, but I use this http://www.tonebone.com/tb-bassbone.htm to balance and swap between my Bongo/Ric and a Stagg EUB. I run the BG through channel 1 which has a couple of pre set shapes (dont use em) and put the EUB through channel 2 with the full EQ. Its easy to balance the output with the level selectors, then adjust overall volume on your amp. It lso has a neat Boost /Effects Loop which can be set for Boost only, Loop only or Both. Has a seperate tuner out and a DI. Works perfectly for me but as I say is not cheap.

  6. Yet another with Jennifer OBBM et al. The rock solid link between Messrs Clayton and Mullen Jr is the foundation of any U2 song. Yes there are runs and links that can be added, however I think the point I would like to make is that the "skill" in playing lines like Claytons is in perfecting the delivery and faultess timing that he produces. If as a bass player you can replicate this, then youre not doing badly at all. Fast licks are great, but a basic drive played to perfection always has its place IMHO.

  7.
Hi Stagg EUB Folks

I sometimes find that the endpin of my Stagg resonants and buzzes a bit and I have to keep adjusting it sightly till it stops.
    Anyone else get this?
Does anyone know if the endpin can come out, (I can't figure out how!) as maybe I could put in some padding
    cheers
    Dave
I get the exact same thing. One of the reasons Im not progressing well with the slap technique. I think that the area where the endpin enters the Stagg (ooooeer) isnt beefy enough to stop the pin flexing and rattling about inside. Ive tried to get the pin out to reinforce the insides but like you, I cant work out how to remove it. Any help from the land of Stagg would be apppreciated

  8. I dont know about the Yamaha range, but I have a Michael Kelly Dragonfly 5 Fretless that has a beautiful sound both acoustically and amped although acoustically it wont fully keep up with a six string volume wise. The most playable acoustic Ive played was the Fender Victor Bailey signature. Exceptionally fast with a very sweet full sound. Hope that helps.

  9.
Hiya Don,

thanks for the info. Yes, would be great to meet up and say Hi. My wife is about to give birth anyday now so might not be until the new year but I will check out My Space.

How you getting on wih the Stagg?
Getting on fine mate. I would love to increase my repertoire but need to find time to do it. Playing some modern rockabilly (trying to any way) like Imelda May. Just dont seem to be handling the slap very well. Ah well practice practice practice. Congrats on the impending Linusette. See you in the New Year

    Don

  10.
Careful with the case! Coming back from a rehearsal on Sunday evening, the shoulder strap broke. I thought I had caught the bass in time but obviously not as, when I opened it up on Monday, I discovered I had split the headstock! Glued, set, clamped and reinforced with a couple of wooden dowels, it seems to be holding up and I will be using it at a gig tonight.

However, I would rather not have had the opportunity to practise my luthiery skills!

    Wulf
OOOPS. Was it the hardware that broke or the strap itself. Ive got to be honest, i carry it like a fishing rod using the two carry handles, but I have been tempted to sling it over my back. Not any more mind you

  11.
Maxcat,

Where are you playing? I would love to come and here the Stagg in a live environment.
Hi Linus . Long time no speak. I should get the band up on the gig thread if I ever get round to it. Next gig is the Prince of Wales Hammer Vale, Haslemere on the 29th Nov then Crown Inn Knaphill 19 Dec. You can My space "Six Miles Away" to see if our other bookings suit better. Would be great to meet up at one of them.

    Cheers

    Don

  12.
I just played my first gig with my stagg EUB. I'll have to say that I'm very impressed. There are still some nut slot issues to be taken care of once I get the correct files but all in all I'm very happy with my purchase. The recordings from the concert proved to me that it really does emulate a the sound real upright fairly well. Once again, I'd suggest anyone that is looking into one to take the plunge. You won't be disappointed.
Congrats mate. I gig the Stagg a lot now and apart from the standard "Whats that big red thing" comments, the main conversations always centre on how it really does do a great approximation of an acoustic DB. Second your recommendation. As Ive said before probably the best bang for your buck that Ive purchased. Stagg On
