I see no end of reasonably priced bass items that stay on BC so long they become like familiar faces. There’s one pair of Warwick cabs from @Woody1957 have been on here since April last year and this is the second time round they've been posted - so likely over a year to (not) sell two reasonably priced items. I agree FB is a bit too public for my liking but the alternative is paying a hefty fee on eBay or very likely not selling at all on here.

Just started selling on FB. Impressed so far. Trying to clear bass and photographic backlog from last year’s GAS. Items are moving much quicker than on BC, even quite exotic stuff. Who’d have thought a general punter would want a 6 string bass. Now getting responses within 12 hours.Same bass items haven’t had a tickle of interest here.

Been there done that successfully. Not ideal but a bit of wiggle room actually improves the sound IMHO, if you're looking for double bass cloning. I guess not ideal if you're going for crisp light clearly defined tonality.

Revelation P bass, unlined fretless. Great condition. Revelation are an awesome low cost but high quality brand sold by top end London shop, the Bass Gallery. Fantastic condition, with the benefit of a Ki0gon loom conversion. And if you think unlined is awesome but scary, it’s actually amazingly easy to learn to play. Side dots checked by Bass gallery and one which was out (12th) was professionally filled and 'moved to the proper spot. Posted £150 or collection from mid East Anglia for less.

Jolly good, pleased for you. Glad my gloomy predictions came to nothing!

I have a feeling it is both designed and therefore good for metal. Be sure to play it to make sure you like the sound. I loved the look of these until I played one and both the build quality and sound weren't what I expected. BUT YMMV!

Possibly, but there's quite a lot of holes already, so drilling more might further weaken rather than strengthen the plate. They all do it - certainly all mine have - and TBH it doesn't seem to cause any issues of note.

Hohner VI B Bass Pro. Good nick, everything works. Neck thru body, double truss rod, VV stacked tone EQ, switchable active/passive. 9v. La Bella RX Nickel roundwounds - best strings you've never heard of. Spare set of new strings for extra money. Professionally crafted removable ramp. Never play fretted nowadays so she's wasted sitting on the stand. £ 225 collected. £250 posted. Might drive a reasonable distance in East Anglia to deliver.

Probably my favourite playing bass of all 40 + I've had was a Peavey Grind 5. Not best made by any means. But it just jumped into my arms and said " play me". Tart.

34". Weights an absurd 3.7 kilo. Dual truss rod so you can balance the stress across the wider fingerboard. The only flaw they have is a design one in the bridge. It's not quite woman enough to handle all those strings pulling so it can 'curl up' a fraction of a millimetre at the back. But then it stops moving and stays like that so no difference really.

Here's a man (not me) playing one

Pretty little thing - I've had 3. they come up about once a 6 month.

Not entirely true. The Hohner VI B Bass handles great, is neck through, can be good wood, it's well made and is reasonably small and light and rarely sells for more than £250. I was about to put mine up wot cost me £195, but if there's a glut I'll wait.

I don’t lack jam nights, my problem is that there are now almost as many bassist around as guitarists. Or multi instrumentalists who also play bass. Maybe it’s all this online teaching making it popular.

Tonerider as pickup alternative for Vintage 940FL?
lownote replied to lownote's topic in Repairs and Technical
Query now rephrased. -
Is fretless good for soul then? Real question, useful to know if so.
-
I have a Vintage 940fl. It has Wilkinson pups in a PJ setup. The electronics are standard active. Now, while I really like the P pup on its own and with the J (bridge) pup, the bridge pup on its own sounds tinny, thin and harsh on its own. I have good past experience of Tonerider P pups, but none of their jazz pickups. Anyone got comment on whether a Tonerider set up (J+P) would sound better than Wilkinson? The alternative seems to be to go to Nordstrand and I can't see how how paying 4 or 5 times as much can be justified.

I need to shift from blues to jazz. I am into good online learning but need 121 as well. Anyone able to help?
-
Actually this is great advice and I may take it myself. Doubt if it’s going to be much fun 25 songs in and still no one to play with. But hey you come into this world alone and you leave it the same way. The alternative is feeling sorry for myself and not being ready when the call comes so maybe I just should get a grip. My problem is changing gear. My scene is blues, I can do blues. I’m just not wanted by my peers. I therefore need to learn a new scene, the most obvious being jazz, and that’s hard.

Ya. I left my one and only band 2 years ago. I live in't sticks so bands are far and few between. So I'm a spare room hero. But by focusing on online lessons, practising and generally keeping in with my bass we get along. Not ideal, but neither is bands unless you're lucky with bandmates, musical genre and so forth.

Why bother with Hartke (very average IMHO) when Ashdown service is the polar opposite - brilliant! Just saying like.
-
But is the OP looking for a B string? Surely, for chords you'd be wanting to string it EADGC, which might ease the volume problem.

Exactaprecisamundo. That's what I was trying to say and couldn't find the words. The fretless is IMHO more suited to thoughtful music making, frets can (ah only say can) encourage a more mechanical playing by numbers approach: a robust discussion I was having on Gary Willis's course on SBL until I unceremoniously threw myself off the course.
