6. oh and again whenever i have to deal with aguilar they pronunce it AAh Gwee Lar. And as far as mispronunciation of ibanez goes i think i've heard them all, Ibanny ? anyone oh yes and a Gibson Lay Paul!! Case of Hyacinth Bucket (bouquet) syndrome perhaps. The one that gets me is hartke? Is it pronounce Hart ? Hart Kay? Hartki ?
7. whenever i have to deal with them at work on the phone they say AYE BAN EZ. But if you go to spain ibanez is a fairly common name and its pronounced ee ban eth.
8. Hi there any tutors in the glasgow area able to help me transcribe figure out a couple of songs before 10pm tonight ? I need to get two songs down for an audition ive figured out a few parts but as the audition draws closer im starting to panic. Im based in central glasgow and am free all day! I know this is an incredible long shot . Ive been meaning to take lessons for ages and i think this has just been the deciding factor where ive decided im not as good as i thought. If anyone could help me out please give me a shout either on here or [email protected] cheers

10.
Several years ago I was at the Wal workshop takling to Pete Stevens about the great sound of old (1970's) Wals. He said that the sound changed when they had to switch from imperial wire to metric wire. You wouldn't think that a small change would make such a difference!
Honestly ?!! is this due to impedence issues ? I had a customer in work the other day with an old svt 3 pro ( the black and white one ?) and it sounded fantastic. Far better than the new one i had in stock. Btw those 3pros and aguilar gs112s absolutely slay .

12. Im just getting back into playing with bands after taking a year out. Ive replied to a few adds and have been invited along to a couple of auditions. Ive never been in a position where I have had to audition for a band its always been with mates or people i knew already. Does anyone have any advice so I can get the gig. Its all originals and they have stuff recorded. What do I do ? Do i figure it out note for note or work out my own parts for it? If anyone could give me any advice it would be much apprecieated, not just on playing the songs, but on anything else i might come across. cheers.
13. another p bass. So i could swap if i broke a string etc
14.
I've posted this elsewhere on BC, but before I seize the opportunity to launch into another rant about Mesa Boogie. Two points; 1 - This amp sounds wonderful. 2 - I dropped on a bad example. Posted a week or so ago. 'Hi there - a word of caution regarding earlier models of this head. I bought a combo (112) from a dealer 2nd hand - a well known dealer at that, based in Devon and famous for the guitars that John Paul Jones / Muse use, anyway this amp was in excellent cosmetic condition with added comments of 'yeah... we know the owner - he changes his stuff every couple of years, he weighed this in against a Zon Bass...blah blah blah...' This amp worked fine for around 6 weeks and then..... it started cutting out after 20 - 30 mins use and would cut back in after a few seconds whilst annoying, once it cut back in it stay on Ok... then it failed for longer periods and would not cut in, then failed completely.. then working - I then picked up on 'issues' from the harmony central review pages. I took it to a local amp tech, he pointed out seven major f**k ups in the internal assembly of the amp - the highlight being that in one place the PCB had been bi passed in favor of a bit of 'mid-air' soldering - this had to have been done in the factory in an attempt to produce a 'quick fix' - when he used the pcb circuit the 'fault' would repeat in a predictable cycle. My amp tech has since changed the values of components in the circuit into the valves by an order of magnitude (more compatible with what he would expect for this circuit) and the fault has gone, the amp sounds wonderful. THIS IS NOT A REPAIR THIS IS ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING..... I would love someone from Mesa Boogie to acknowledge the mistake but this is Mesa Boogie - they can't be wrong can they? Look, buyer beware - it's a great amp but take care with 2nd hand.' This experience has been 'shared' by others on BC. IF you're buying a new version - Lucky you.
. You're not alone. Ive sold several and probably 60% of them have came back One or two of them have even been to mesa distributor several times for repair, and ive had two customers completely give up on them. Ive seen a few going cheap second hand and have always been tempted but the reliability faults have put me off. However the newer versions with the switchable input seem to have remedied the fault. Just cant seem to find any on the cheap haha
15.
I use the Headphones output on my Eden for in-ear monitoring of my own bass. Using someone else's backline today, I found myself using an Ampeg SVT something-or-other, with what few sockets there were on the back of the amp rather than the front. I found (by feel) two sockets which would drive my ear-piece, but each of them also cut off the signal to the cab! So ... no in-ear monitoring then. Was I missing something? Does anyone else use in-ear monitoring? Is this a common problem, or are Ampeg SVT's badly-designed?
There not badly designed just not designed for what you are after
16. Nice to see so many young lads on here with nice gear. Takes me back to when i was younger. I started working when i was 13/14 in a music shop as saturday boy then made the move at 16 to work in retail becoming manager of a concession before i was old enough to drink !! This gave me a fair wedge of disposable income which saw me start off with a squier p bass, tanglewood rebel, to esp bass, warwick streamer to warwick corvette, to warwick corvette 5, warwick thumb, fender usa p, to musicman ray, warwick thumb nt, to g+l 2500, to warwick streamer stage one, to musicman stingray to american p bass!! (and thats just the basses!! guitars and amps are a whole other list !!) All i can say is that i went straight from school and didnt bother with college, exams etc. I fell into the trap of easy money working in shops builders merchants etc and its only now at 22 im back at full time education and im kicking myself for not doing it earlier. Im in the good position now of still working in the music trade and getting the benefit of an education. Okay moneys tighter but I know its gonna pay off in the long run. Hopefully be able to pick up a sadowsky or two when i graduate haha. I suppose the moral is Dont give up on education cause your making ok money now. Theres always something better out there and is definately worth working towards!
17. Morning all just picked up a new bass head this week. Its an anniversary SVTII one of 250 worldwide. Cant seem to find a whole lot about them from what i gather its an early 90s model. Dunno if anyone remebers that i was selling my ampeg rig a few months ago. I eventually sold the head (an svt 450h) but then the cab sale fell thru! Damn ebay buyers!. So i was stuck with my 810e. So instead of it sitting there i decided to get a new head and persevere. I should be getting hold of the head this week or beginning of next week. Heres a pic of a similar one i found online. If anyone has any experience or advice to give it would be much apprecieated. Im currently playing p-basses with a pick but am looking perhaps to get a 5 string active bass. How does the amp cope with this ?
18. Think im inclined to agree with the OP here. 99% of funk does nowt for me. If it came down to a style of music that i like to play thats "bass prominent" give me reggae any day. I quite like listening and watching these "bass acrobats " online and on record with there double thumbs and two handed tapping but in a musical sense it just leaves me cold. Awesome funky/fingerstyle music check out bakithti kumalo on paul simons graceland. Technical and incredibly musical.
