1. 18 - I had attended two or three practices and was rather non-chalant about the whole thing. Highlight of the gig was the singer introducing me as the bass player playing his first ever gig, and his name is Bryan. To which someone shouted "He's not the messiah he's a very naughty boy", "I'm Bryan and so is my wife!" etc. etc. Great fun. I had been playing in the front room along to CDs for a couple of years by then, but still managed to mess up most songs. The crowd also demanded a bass solo, which was absolutely awful.
2.
I'm in a similar situation. My girlfriend's really nice and we get along great, but I know this other girl who's much richer...
If she's hot as well as rich i say go for it!
3. Anybody had experience with these cheap strings on stringbusters? There's alot of guff about them on the page which gives the impression that they're decent, but crisps are packed in foil packaging and they go out of date! Also, there is a little packet of silica gel in everything these days! So, anyone tried them?
4. The only time I've ever had an amp give out on me was a SWR Black Beauty combo. It just lost volume/power. It was still working, just very quietly. Got it fixed in less than a week for the next gig, then it did the same again! So was left standing with my ear to the PA trying to hear myself, as the "professional PA" guys were frigging hopeless. All sorted now though. Not sure I'm entirely happy with this Marshall gear though! Ah well, a whole rig was a good trade for a single (temperamental) SWR combo!
5. I'd love to let one of these loose on a bass.... it would really cut down the elbow grease!!!
6. Play finger style on the edge of your steering wheel in the car to whatever song you're listening to (if it's a slow song just do 16th notes in time on the wheel). This way you can build up your muscle memory and strength/speed when you're away from your bass! Otherwise, if you're not in the car, do it on your leg when you're listening to music. However, try to avoid doing this in public!
7.
I only came on here to post this Antoria Les Paul in case anyone in Essex fancies it. And the Bradley still isn't worth 600 quid
Another ebay description gem: "The things I do know are that it's black..."
8. I'm a 20 year old bassist with about two years gigging experience and some backing/lead vocal experience. Good gear and my own transport if necessary. Willing to go to Cambridge/Norwich areas! I'm really just looking for a good time, i love playing live and am looking for a gigging rock covers band. I learn the riffs properly. No root note laziness here! Influences include Thin Lizzy, Foo Fighters and Steppenwolf etc.
9. I had/have an AKG wireless bug and i could never get a decent sound out of it, it clipped constantly! I turned the gain sdetting to absolute minimum and it still clipped, so i gave it up and stuck with cables.
10. I'm almost certain there has been a thread on this before but i tried searching and couldn't find it! Basically, Our band is moving into more of a 2 lead singer situation with me stepping up to take over some of the songs, but so far i have only really sung without playing bass at the same time. Now i need to start doing both. So, i need your top tips on how to accomplish this! Does anybody here do it? Do you just simplify? I'm not sure i can do this when the rhythm of the singing is mismatched with the bass playing/chord changes. i.e. Can't Get Enough Of Your Love by Bad Company. Thanks guys!
11.
Rumour has it there's a fretless version in the pipeline.
mmmm.... Fretless Keeley Hawes...
12. More the office and the stroll bit I think! Did you buy one or not?
13. I think I understand what you're saying.... but I'm not totally sure.
14.
LOL That reminds me of when I lived in Germany. There was a local window fitter who's sir name was W*nk. He had this old blue van and on the side of it he just had his sir name in huge white letters and his details on the back. It always made me chuckle whenever I saw "the W*NK van" trundling round town.
I was driving along the A14 the other day and saw a van in front of me that said Munters on the sides! I took a picture on my phone (with both hands on the steering wheel officer!)
15. My worst experience was getting quite drunk before the start of play, but coping valiantly through the first and most of the second set. But when we got to Wishing Well (which we hadn't played together for about a month) i had absolutley no idea how to play it.... so i think i just tried to fit random notes in.... but my memory there is very vague.... I also know we played songs after that.... but i don't remember those.... I do remember falling down (backwards) onto my bum while playing, and leaning against the guitarist's half stack, just as he stomped on his boost pedal and played a solo.... I felt no pain, but apparently had a very smug grin on my face!
16. Baggy Trousers is fairly simple and is in standard tuning!
17. Damn. I get paid on Wednesday. Pipped at the post!
18.
Wicked, I'll try and remeber that. I really like the colour.
The yellow was actually chosen because it looked the most like white on a black and white TV! A plain white guitar would no show up properly.
19.
Tadaa!
Beautiful!
20. Coral Pink...... I think I'm going to be sick!
21. I've just got the strangest craving for a white SG bass (with a black pickguard, obviously). What manufacturers make them? Am i letting my GAS imagination run away with itself? Would i have to get an epiphone refinished? Is this all just some crazy dream!?
22.
Onstage at the Town Hall may 2009
Epic shot!
23. I'm in a pub rock covers band! I'm very happy with what I'm doing because we gig pretty much every weekend, and we all get on really well. We travel to the gig in one van, and we have a great chemistry when playing. We're planning a band trip to Florida in February next year! The only thing that would make things better would be if we played in more pubs that had lots of people in it! and possibly got paid more! haha!
24. We play it in my band purely because the punters love it. I think the reason for the intro being difficult is there is a sort of extra half beat when the drums come in. Some sort of time signature screw up. The whole band can play it seperatley (to the song) but doing it together almost never went right, so we adapted it a bit.
25. The only time i've ever picked up a LH bass it's made me realise how it felt to first pick up a RH one! It will more than likely feel utterly weird, as most of bass playing technique is deeply routed in your muscle memory so you would have to build that up from scratch.
