You could use a vacuum bag to apply even pressure across the top, that way the laminate would deform to the shape of the body and the vacuum would apply 14.7 pounds of pressure per square inch

Thanks for all the help ladies and gentlemen. You have total NOT helped (too many good suggestions). I think i hanker for the good old days when there was a choise of 2. As part of my plan i've just shown my (Much) better half 3 basses. Wal mk3 5 string Fodera Emperor 5 ACG Uber Recuve 5 The bass she liked best was...... the ACG (tried to make sure they all looked similar) and she did remind me we are not rolling in it....
-
Yep good point, means the risk of not liking the bass wouldn't cost lots of £££.
-
Very good point, especially after waiting so long

Dont know that Brand is it anything like 'What do you need another bass for, you can only play 1 at a time anyway'?
-
I have though about and ACG, i had a Finn 5 for a while and loved it. The purpose of the post was to test my resolve and i must admit that an Über ART Recurve 5 could topple the Wal. I think i would feel awkward sending Alan a picture of a Wal saying build me your version of this. Are there any basschatters who own both, what is your view on the ACG over a Wal?

50th Birthday arriving this summer, so i've decided to get get myself another bass. Way back in 1989 i was in a music shop in Glasgow with only £500 and wished i had enough for a Wal selling for £800ish. That's an itch that hasn't gone away. Well it's now 29 years later and i think that's enough dilly dallying . With that in mind i thought i would test my resolve by asking the gentlemen of this parish two things What would you buy yourself for a 50th birthday prezzy? What bass has always called out to you, but could never afford it? For me it's a 5 string Wal

Well after a lot of sanding and cleaning i've decided to leave the bass with it's warwick finish. I first cleaned the bass with Liberon wax remover then used 400 grit sandpaper, then wiped down the bass with Acetone. Then a round of 800 grit followed by 1200 wet and dry. After all that i decided just to re wax the bass. The bass looks and feels great. Thanks for all the advice.

I've just had a delivery of a new bass from https://bassfreaks.net MARUSZCZYK ELWOOD L5A-24 'MAPLE BURL' terrific service from Pierre. Looking forward to getting home after work!

I was thinking of a satin nitro for 2 reasons; Provide a harder outer shell, the maple neck is susceptible to small dings i thought that the niro may provide a harder skin making it a bit more resistant. Its long lasting. I think i'll follow your recommendations, i'll get some liberion wax remover, use it and white spirits and a fair amount of elbow grease and make an assessment once that's finished.
-
Its a 5 string 2010 LTD corvette, so it was a wax finish.
-
Any advice from you luthiers out there would be great. I picked up a Warwick bass on Gumtree a few months ago that i'd like to refinish, last guy used oil to seal then wax on top. I'd like to refinish with a satin nitro. Any advice on chemicals to use to get rid of oil and wax. Elbow grease and sanding would be first stage, then i though Acetone might lift any residual oil.

The Combo did indeed have a faulty tweeter, repair was going to take too long so Mark at Bass Direct has sent me a brand unit, arrived yesterday. Bass Direct guys were really fair and easy to deal with, really quick email response. Love the amp! Thanks all for your help.
-
Yep brand new, i'll be calling them in the morning.
-
Nothing even at max vol, i can hear the 12" but not the tweeter
-
With the same setting as you (vol, eq =0), i can hear no hiss just the fan. Damn.
-
I have a question i hope someone can answer, i've just bought a new Markbass Combo 121 Lite and i'm surprised at NO hiss coming from the tweeter. If fact i'm not sure i can hear anything coming from the tweeter. I have a CMD 121H which has an obvious hiss, so i suspected this amp would have some. So the question is to anyone out there with this amp, is there any hiss from the tweeter?
