I have the J-Retro, but was considering changing to the J-Retro flat response. I thought I would do a sanity check before changing.

Removing gloss finish and waxing/oiling?

Liberon finishing oil would give you a hard protective finish, the more layers you add the more gloss you get. You need to apply thin coats, 1 every 24 hours. BriWax is a great wax product, you could cut back (1500 wet and dry) the gloss finish of the Liberon oil with BriWax, that would give you a lovely satin effect. -

Bass would need to be disassembled then i would suggest 1800 grit sandpaper would leave the bass with a light satin finish.

The finish is an oil product, it just goes hard, so you would not need to oil over it.

This product dries hard, so the more layers you put on the more gloss it gets, I put on 5 coats with 24 hours between layers. It nourishes and enhances the colour of wood. Its's hard wearing and Water, heat, alcohol and food acid resistant. Found this when i was designing furniture many moons ago.
