  1. I do quite like the look, if it were better executed. To be fair he was trying to repair a problem rather just thinking this'll look cool, he just ran out of f**ks half way through.
  2. @Ricky 4000 Not wishing to derail this thread but I had an Amazon when I was younger and that picture isn't far off what it looked like. I worked in a Volvo garage and wanted to annoy all the fuddy duddy owners so roof chopped it, de-chromed and dropped it on the deck. The only real difference was I had American spec towel rail bumpers, wheels the same as the A Team van and it was painted surf green. It was a two door 123s and I only found out years later that it was a very rare model with the same twin carb engine as the P1800s (The Saint car). It had well over 100bhp as standard which was prenty good for a standard 60s car. Sorry, back to boring basses.
  3. Fashion! I can't believe women are showing their............. ........... oh, Volvos. Yeah carry on.
  4. I found Scott Whitley's site has some interesting information on it, especially the page on string choice. https://www.shortscalebass.co.uk/ 😁
  5. JJ Burnell and Bruce Foxton made quite an inspiring racket. πŸ™‚
  6. Fancy natural wood basses. I really love some of the woods involved and used for furniture I could really enjoy it. But I've yet to see a fancy natural wood bass and felt inspired to play it, I just see them and think meh. I think maybe they appear too polite to me when I like a bit of attitude. My first thought when I see one is that the owner's going to try and put me in a fusion coma with it.
  7. A dented brass neck now by the sound of it. And this is a record, I know, no help at all, but I do think you're right in just ignoring her, some people will try anything on. πŸ™‚
  8. I'm in a little village on the edge of Bodmin Moor, the closest place anyone's heard of is Liskeard. Both bands have members split between Liskeard and Plymouth.
  9. Tell him we'll organise a Basschat festival, a weekend of basschatters bands. We'll call it 'Chatfest'. 😁
  10. I rub Lurpak into the fretboards of my basses. They play like butter. πŸ™„
  11. In general the north of Devon and Cornwall is less populated than the south so gigs will be fewer and further in between. The further west you go in Cornwall the less it matters as the north and south coasts are so close. Plymouth, Truro, Exeter, etc are busy-ish as gigs go. We've found that the smaller more rural areas appreciate live music much more and even though the audience might be smaller than in the bigger towns and cities, they tend to be there for the music rather than just out on the lash and there happens to be a band on. Neither of our bands are just standard pub rock and we've been doing alright, the Mod/Northern Soul/Ska band more than alright really. There's plenty of smaller festivals as well. You will definitely need a big car and a willingness to travel though.
  12. Yeah, it doesn't make sense to be a scam, but it also makes no sense if he's legit. I don't know.
  13. There's definitely something strange about him. He's got fourteen active listings with between three and nine days left to go on them and not one bid on anything. I know that's not out of the question but it seems odd, coupled with the same item selling multiple times, getting good feedback but being relisted again makes me think he's at best, just a bit thick but probably best avoided, at worst, a scamming knob'ead and probably best avoided.
  14. Parker and Bailey lemon oil. TK Maxx had for six or seven quid a while ago but the cheapest I can find now is here. https://www.btnmusic.co.uk/product/parker-bailey-guitar-lemon-oil/?gclid=CjwKCAjw_qb3BRAVEiwAvwq6VjpOCysZObYACkU6GXyD3Gn7GQhXFxsIAzUQozO9-sfYf3fP7akJCxoCfDoQAvD_BwE It's a big bottle and you'll likely never need to buy another. Edit : just noticed that it's out of stock and there's delivery on top, but have a look on ebay or amazon for it.
  15. Glad you're liking your 'new improved' LP. Thank you for this thread as it's spurred me finally dig out my old Epiphone SG, well I will tomorrow. I've been thinking about refinishing it and generally sorting it out as I've finished quite a few stalled projects with my time off. It's got a pair of 70s Mighty Mite humbuckers which from hazy memory and googling are either 1300s or 1400s, or one of each, which look like they're quite sought after. Quite keen to check now we have the internet. πŸ‘
  16. Ahh, wearing wigs and pretending to play guitar. Some things never change. 😁
  17. My Hofner Ignition Club bass. Absolutely brilliant basses for very little money. Custom made pickguard and control plate, with bakelite knobs and LaBella flats. Thumptastic πŸ™‚
  18. My '99 Yamaha BBG5s owned from new. It was my only bass for 10 years. The gold hardware has worn to a very silvery gold so looks really nice now. An old picture in front of my old bi-amped 4x12 & 2x15 rig. πŸ˜„
  19. If you already know about intonation on a guitar or bass then cool but being new to bass you may well not know. If you play an open string then that same note should be heard when fretting the 12th fret, check both open string and fretted at the 12th fret with your tuner, if slightly flat or sharp then you need to adjust the saddle back or forwards a little. This is done by using the long screw (probably with a spring on) directly behind the saddle running in line with the string. If the 12th note is flat then wind the saddle forwards, if to sharp then wind it back. Retune the open string and check tuning at the 12th again. If the intonation is out then, even if the open string is in tune, the notes on that string will progressively get flatter or sharper the further up the neck you go, hence your higher fingerings sounding slightly off. πŸ™‚
  20. He wants to remove the glue, not satay the bloody thing. 😁
  21. Just a word of warning, the IBANEZ tmb30 is a great bass, but it is a heavy little beast.
  22. Being completely niave here as I've never actually played one, but what are short scale five strings like, or more to the point what is the B string like? A lot of fuss is made about five strings being more than 34" scale to get a decent sounding B string, and the reason for fan frets to get a longer string run on the lower strings. Just curious as to how a short scale low B feels.
  23. I'm certainly very intrigued to see any solutions to getting bands back gigging in pubs as I just don't see how we can until social distancing ends. The idea of perspex screens seemed good, a complete screen across the front of the stage area, band behind screen and PA and crowd in front. We always all go through the PA anyway so it would be easy for us. The band members could agree to be a social bubble if they were all happy with what each other were doing to stay safe. It seems great, but then I remember that a small pub that has a hundred people in normally for a gig can only have 10 to 15 in with social distancing and I don't know any pubs that can or will pay a band to attract a crowd of ten. It's just not sustainable. I swing between hopelessly optimistic one day and then negative the next. I'm really intrigued to see how the first pubs tackle the situation.
  24. You're lucky he didn't stitch you up completely. He could've paid you through PayPal, taken the case and after a week or so opened an 'item not received' dispute with PayPal, and as you cannot prove he has it, no courier or post office receipt, then they would take the money out of your bank and refund him. Leaving him with the case and his money. Chalk it up to experience and move on. πŸ™‚
