  1. i had one for ages and found the only way to get a usable sound for me was to run a preamp into the FX return, the only reason i kept it so long was because it was small and loud!!!

but plugging your pre into the FX return bypasses the awful preamp and opens up a whole new world of sound

listen to when the bass comes in on that track, its a pretty aggressive tone using just the darkglass vintage microtubes, the bass plays without the guitar on one of the verses too.

  3. i have both, and prefer the vintage,

the vintage can get quite clanky and aggressive, but i never hear any samples showing that side of it, i use it for a clanky aggressive p bass tone at the moment and its always on.

i'd say the b3k is more 'precise' and metallic, and you can coax some insane attack out of it. neither pedals kill your low end either, very full sounding.

if you're anywhere near leeds, then you're welcome to come try them out.

That's what they're saying on Talkbass. The PF-800 has better tone with more authority in each note.

I haven't seen any issues reported, but does anyone know if the PF-800 suffers the same problems as the PF-500?

i've had zero problems with my pf800, my pf500 did cut out every now and then (but rarely)

I'd love to know more about how you are finding the PF800. What cabs are you using with it, still a BF S15? What sort of venues do you play?

    Cheers

The PF800 is probably nmy favourite amp of all time, ive always been an ampeg fan and this little thing is ridiculous, completely nails that ampeg sound and can get stupendously loud, im still running it with the barefaced S15 and playing venues of varying sizes, small to medium to large and it has never had a problem on stage

edit: i recorded my new bands EP using my precision into an old valve ampeg and was shocked how similar it sounded to the PF800, totally nailed it.

  5. i thought the sound of my Ampeg pf500 into my barefaced super15 was awesome, but the pf500 often felt like it was running out of headroom and i never felt at ease when pushing it, i upgraded it to the pf800 and the headroom is amazing!

so i say go for the pf800
