I think you'll find I was filling the bass guitar shaped hole in my heart with a lady, and it didn't quite work out
Ah, i see I have also just seen one of your band names is Empyrean. One of my favourite albums of all time is called Empyrean
Good call! First thing I did when my ex moved out 3 months ago was buy a bass.. Got another one last week as well!
This is similar to the "Eating your emotions" thing. Except you are trying to fill that hole in your heart with timber and steel. Good on you!
I have a similar policy. One bass in, one wife out.
Do you have 2 conveyor belts running opposite directions to each other? Wives come in one end and exit through the other, where the basses come it. It's a bit flawed. Maybe the bass conveyor belt should go straight into a massive music room, where you have several polish warehouse workers, frantically lifting them off and trying to find an empty space to store them.
My wife has one rule (which I heartily support) - all instruments are to be played. I can have as many as I like, but if any fall out of favour then I must sell them. No basses under the bed/stashed in the attic in my house.
I don't even understand why people stash basses. This future classic nonesense is a load of crap. Buy an instrument, play it. If it becomes valuable in the future, that's alright, sure sell the bass that you have been playing for 20 years because it's worth more now than ever (although that doesn't make much sense either) but don't bloody stash it in anticipation of it becoming valuable.
If that was the nature of my relationship then I wouldn't be in that relationship, nor expect her to want to be in it either.
Exactly. My dad buys lots of cars and stuff. He doesn't keep secrets from my mum, and he will tell her if he is going to buy a car, but a lot of the time, if she doesn't ask, he won't tell. He's not trying to avoid it, he just doesn't feel the need to bring it up. When i was born, i was supposed to be called Martin Geard. My dad returned from the registry office and said "Ah, i just decided to call him Martin John instead". And i just decided to call myself Milton (massive digression).
I did that this morning... oo-err... and, staying on topic, I have a room where I can store all my music stuff, practise (bass, not komungo), have my studio, computer, desk, monitors, etc etc AND I get the cupboard under the stairs for cabs and so on when they're not in use. Sweet!
Em... why is your avatar a dog gun?
That's sometimes quite a useful perspective to have on tap. At least it encourages you to buy more different stuff ("not taking the Stingray tonight, think I'll grab my komungo")
I think you'll find it's the opinion of most people who don't really know anything about instruments. And if i'm not taking the stingray, i normally fill in the low end with a didgeridoo.

I have to say my mum has softened up a bit since i got ill. I carried in (well, not literally, somebody else carried it) a new amp and a new guitar since i got ill. Which has only prompted a "You need that like a hole in the head". She has also said that i can't get more stuff than i can store in my room, but i was shocked when SHE brought up the idea of wall hangers for my guitars and basses in my room!
The current mrs discreet couldn't care less about how much gear I've got as long as I pay for it myself!
I thought the common issue was the wife/girlfriend wants something and the husband/boyfriend says "Have you got the money for it?" No, is that just every single male in my family? ok then... I have 2 basses (an OLP and a Jazz bass) an electric guitar, and an acoustic guitar. My mother will often say things like "How many guitars do you need?". The trouble is, anybody who isn't a musician won't be able to tell the difference between all the little things that we so often bang on about on here. To my mum, my basses sound like basses, and my guitars sound like guitars. And i suppose people put up with it to keep the other half happy, and so they don't spend all their money on gear!
Sandals, socks and drainpipe jeans, now there is a fashion faux pas if I ever seen one
But it's Inti, so you can't criticise.

You people are all either too old or too young! Get with the times, man. You're ether 20, or nothing!
Looks like his jeans were too big, or was the style in the 90s? I don't know I was 3 when this was taken..
Young prick! I was 4.

oh yes, here is a video i made. This is with my onboard preamp everything at 0, and with the amp's preamp EQ set flat, maybe with a bit of a mid scoop, not much though. Slight gain, but this is just the genuine tone of the valve preamp and my bass. It's DI'd because i don't have a mic. Maybe when i get a mic, i'll do another video.

I'm going to do some recording. Obviously, this involves certain equipment and abilities, but one of those things that i don't have (that i want rather than need) is a mic. I'm fairly sure you guys on here can point me in the direction of a decent mic for a bass amp. My budget is pretty low, so think £100-£150. I was looking at a bass drum mic, specifically, this one- http://www.andertons.co.uk/instrument-amp-drum-mics/pid9342/cid755/shure-beta-52-dynamic-bass-drum-microphone.asp but what do you guys make of that? Originally, i had wanted to get a mic that would do for bass, and guitar and vocals, but i realised that was asking a lot of one piece of equipment, so i would also like a mic for guitar (acoustic, maybe electric sometimes) and vocals. Shure SM57? Need something that will again be cheap (i know these are easy to come by on the second hand market) and reliable, but also good. So what do you guys think?
That's fair enough, I can't really work out a key signature myself.. Sorry if it sounded like I was having a dig.
You didn't Don't worry. The way i work it out is by looking at the notes, then working out what the possible key signature is. The thing is, when you look at the notes, It starts on a B (which is normally a good indicator) and then there is a lot of D# E hammer ons and pull offs which just back up that it's in the key of B in some form. The only thing that would throw me off is that at the end of a scale, the last interval is normally a semi-tone, but here it is a whole tone, which lead me to B major with a flattened seventh. I don't know how they worked out it was actually a B minor flattened seventh. Maybe they just heard the minor key in the song, but i never listened to the song after the tabs. -
Are you sure?
I know now that i was wrong, i forgot to change it. Still, the difference was really only one note, so i'm happy i was even close! I'm not much of a theory man, so yeah. -
"Now y'all member t' come back now, y'hear?" Hello! Welcome! Now here's the real tester- say "Aluminium". That's the initiation test I'm joking (but seriously, there are 2 I's in it). Welcome aboard

I'm selling a bass, pics coming soon, make me an offer.
MiltyG565 replied to thumbo's topic in General Discussion
I made this bass myself using bits of timber that had washed up on the shore. I dried them out using a blowtorch. Since the boards are so uneven, the body is mostly polyfilla, so pretty heavy, but not as bad as some polyfilla basses i have. definitely don't drop it. Looking £2000 for it. -
An incredibly warm welcome, thanks chaps!! If I'm in the market for arse repair, opiate advisory or diverson I now know where to look!! @ milty... try some Pete Cornish. They do for planet wave what broadband did to the tin can and string!!
