I bloody knew this was going to happen. 2 Boss pedals and a musicman in the works from the classifieds already. Do you think i might have a problem? Got to say everyone i've dealt with so far has been fantastic- really great bunch of guys- Think i might stick around!
The same problem we all have I bought a new guitar yesterday despite not earning any money :/

I'm not really coming back on to this topic, but i just wanted to say something that came in to my head when i read Big Stu's last post. When i was in school, i was in the art department, and one of the girls on there said to another person "I will only listen to a song if i see the music video first and like it". I was about 12, and even then i knew that was a bunch of mis-guided rubbish. Milton, away!

Basschat Competition Bass (13 Guitar Co.) - CONCLUSION!
Quick update... I've decided to opt for humbucker/soapbar pickups (rather than single coil) and an active pre-amp. Thanks again for the advice given, which I genuinely took onboard and has led me to being keen for a pre-amp that offers additional functionality (akin to those made by ACG), rather than just an amp for an amp's sake - good points made by BRX about that. Not wanting to get too excited as yet, but Paul (13 guitar Co) is in touch with a guy who makes custom electronics and so there's possibility that the pre-amp might be built from scratch. Early days, but could be very interesting! As always, I'll keep you posted... Paul
Good stuff! EDIT- unintentionally brought up my obsession with religion -
when all the world knows that the ideal condiment for chips is malt vinegar or - if one is a beastly continental - mayonnaise.
What if said Mayonnaise has garlic in it? I love chips with a bit of garlic mayo to dip in to. But they must also have salt and vinegar. Although loads of chip shops are putting the vinegar in spray bottles now, and then you cant taste it. Grrr! Oh, i'm on the wrong thread.
Not repeatedly producing variations on the same false analogy expecting it to not pointed out each time is probably a good call. I'd be interested to hear a new point though.
When do you ever give up? Please, just give up. I don't care anymore. You are smarter than me. Well done. You have out-worded me. Well done. Out of interest, when are you releasing an album?
Its the bit where their wishes extend to dictating what the person who paid good money for it does with it subsequently that is dodge.
But if you avoid paying for it, then you aren't even getting caught up in the "Dictating what the person who has paid good money for it does with it". Right, whatever. I'm not arguing with you or Flyfisher anymore. There's no point. If anything, you're too smart for your own good.
-
If you really don't already know the answer to that, I'm sure Google will help you - but it's a digression too far for this topic I'd say. You can't (sensibly) talk about the potential for something while still claiming it to be black and white. Try telling that to the teenager on the Clampham omnibus with a 160GB iPod full of downloaded music that they couldn't even AFFORD to pay for even if they really wanted to. Compact cassettes didn't kill music as was widely predicted by the music industry. Videotapes didn't kill cinemas as was widely predicted by the film industry. And downloading won't kill them either.
Well, i would class that person no higher than something i would accidentally tread in, and then curse whatever animal left it there. If everyone had your view on this, i'm sure jobs in the music industry would dry up very quickly.
So arbitrary rules outside of the law should be applied to people outside of their wishes, by your personal whim?
I don't think it's at my whim, i think there are people with a lot more authority than me saying not to. Why would anything i say change how people behave? And peoples "Wishes" aren't always good. f*** whatever wishes people have. Some people wish to try and kill you. Some people wish to fly without any mechanical aids. Why would people's "Wishes" matter?
Someone I know drives at 80mph on the motorway sometimes and downloads music from torrent sites. Someone I know does buy music from smaller bands and currently active bands, not so much bands that havent existed for 30 years. Someone I know's justification is that they get where they're going a bit quicker (and drive to suit the conditions, naturally) and by downloading they have an excellent music collection that they otherwise wouldn't have been able to afford in the first place.
I'm going to buy an acoustic guitar tomorrow, it's only a cheap one. Obviously, i would love to buy a really well made one, but don't have the budget for that, so i won't have it, because i can't afford it. See the similarity?
Where you can legally put your penis would be a good example of this and how times, and laws, change over time.
Oh right, so where am i legally allowed to put my penis now that i wasn't 100 years ago?
Again, taking your '3 basic laws' of injury, loss and harm, what is the problem with driving at 80mph on the motorway if you don't have an accident? Indeed it was only recently that government was considering increasing motorway limits to 80mph, which suggests that the issue really isn't so black and white.
The potential for all 3 is heightened due to to decreased amount of reaction time, increased stopping distance (especially when it's raining). Plenty of people have driven at 80 mph on the motorway, and gotten away with it, but that doesn't mean that they should have done it.
What do you think the "loss" is? As soon as you start making an assumption (i.e. that someone would have paid for the music if they couldn;t download it for free) then it's no longer black or white.
Why would anybody download music that they weren't willing to pay for? that's just a bit idiotic.
See example below. And indeed, it isn't a case of should, because there is no obligation to download music, thankfully, because most music is terrible. But do you have the option to do something that is not restricted? Sure, because that is what not restricted means.
You are taking the word "Should" too literally. Just because you can justify doing something, does not mean that it is OK to do it.
-
Downloading music isn't illegal. So every reference you make to 'illegally downloading' renders the accompanying statement meaningless. The whole of the point of copying is that there is no loss.
There's obviously loss to the people who put a price on it. Like i said, just because you are smart enough to justify doing it, still does not mean that you should.
This topic comes up fairly often and I'm always surprised that people are happy to pirate music (or any other products) when they're obviously interested enough in producing it to be on an entheusiast forum.
Yes, me too. I was talking to a friend this morning, and we agreed, it's the morals an principles of it. Just because you are smart enough to justify not paying for it and then illegally downloading it, still does not mean that you should. I did mention that the 3 most basic laws are injury, loss and harm, and if anything you do falls under one of those categories, then it's a crime. Taking something which has a price tag without paying for it would fall under the "Loss" heading, making it a crime. That's it black and white. I'm smart enough to justify allowing myself to drive faster than 70 on the motorway. I'll get to my destination faster, i have the driving skill to control a car above 70mph. does that mean that i should? no. Does that mean it's any less illegal? no, of course it doesn't. Of course, i realised a while ago that no matter what i say, the people who have justified illegally downloading music are still smarter than me, can make better arguments than me, and will therefore always justify it as an OK thing to do.

And just to say- If the differences in volume were coming from the gauge and the tension of the string, surely it should be more even with a set of BT's?
-
I've taken delivery of some Balanced Tension strings that I will be testing very soon. I have to say that I really don't think there will be any noticeable difference in volume of a string being of a very small gauge difference. For example, 105 to 107 is such a tiny change, I'd be very surprised if it affected overall string volume. We shall see!
I think the 107 might be a bit of a ploy. If you look at the set, it goes 45-60-80, all strings you can get normally anyway, then 107? .002 of an inch difference? It's hardly worth bothering over really. I love D'Addario, but that one just seems a bit... silly, really.
Are they bothering you? Don't worry - it's time for their medication, that's all.
Hah!
