Love it Peter!! 😁 Please talk us through them, what's the blue P bass? And what do you think of the Harley PB50? Also interested in the Sire M7s... Very versatile collection there!

If Limelight did lefties I'd have had my own of this by now. Really drawn to the shape of the headstock and the pick guard and I love the chrome pickups.
-
I'd say the Fender for the 70s position pickup and because it doesn't look like the typical Fender style.

Music for pleasure vs for music viz learning
uk_lefty replied to Barking Spiders's topic in General Discussion
Yes, similar here. But it's the objective of the learning for me. I want to be a better player by learning from the more technical stuff to make my playing presence in the simpler stuff more effective. -
Now seems to be the time, prices are good. For right handers at least

Vox StompLab IIB Bass Guitar Multi-Effects with Expression Pedal
uk_lefty replied to Albs's topic in General Discussion
I had one back in around 2012. It was dreadful. An old zoom bfx 708ii was better, any newer zoom unit will be far superior -
Your suggestions were Laurel and Hardy or a spaceman. Ignore what anyone else may want and stick your personality on it, if that's Stan and Ollie or a Spaceman (perhaps something NASA or Russian space programme themed?) then that's what you should do! Otherwise your putting something on there peopleay ask you about and you can't explain. Like teenagers wearing Che Guevara t shirts but they can't tell you who he is. And yes, I did make a suggestion in the same breath as telling you not to listen to anyone else 😂

There's an Aria Pro II SB bass Facebook group that has lots of knowledgeable folk on all things 80s Aria bass.

Well, all these years later you're talking about him so maybe that's what he wanted, a way of creating any kind of infamy. He could be president of the US soon... I think it's like restaurant critics who have never been Chefs and they're telling you that some French sounding thing you've never heard of, can't afford and will never taste, is not cooked right, but does their description mean anything to you? How do they even know its wrong? Why should I care?! I like it when you get interviews with musicians who praise other musicians' work. I heard Joe Elliot interviewed with Nikki Sixx and he was praising the Motley Crue album recorded with John Corabi on vocals, saying its some of their best song writing but gets overlooked because of the drama about Vince Neal. Thats an endorsement you wouldn't get from a critic, and makes me think the album may be worth a listen, rather than allowing it to just be written off as a "bad period" as it so often is.

Can't believe I'm even considering it... The bass that DPD lost for a month just going from Hertfordshire to Bristol is now wanted by someone in Australia. Luckily someone in Melbourne so not in the outback, but still.... I'm reluctant to post a bass at all these days but though I know of two left handed bassists in my area neither has responded to the ad, so... If you were selling a bass to someone in Australia what courier service would you use?
-
Yeah I know... I agree it is very odd to see it there. The person who sold it will have been given sweet FA compared to its value and told to feel grateful for it. Still, if you wanted it, checked it out and it was the real deal then why not buy it from there? Probably just as risky as buying off eBay
-
Depends if they are looking for a highly collectible bass guitar or not, I guess. If it was "the one" you were looking for and the price was right wouldn't you go for it?

When I sold some home electrical to a cash converters they took a photo of me and photocopied my ID. I bet people who are stupid enough to nick stuff are stupid enough to take the risk of getting caught like that. I also took them an electric guitar when I was a student, the way they valued it was to see what something vaguely similar sold for on ebay. They offered me less than the pickups were worth for the whole guitar. I didn't sell it to them.

My late Uncle was a massive Tangerine Dream fan. I'd love to get in to it just to get familiar with it but do t know where to start, any tips?

Sketches of Spain, Miles Davis, really helps when I've got to get stuck in to a load of spreadsheets.

My Mrs got me Guitar Family Trees from one of those cheap book remainder type shops a few years back. It's absolutely excellent and only cost a couple of quid. So if you're like me and you check ebay daily for guitars and basses that are a bit less mainstream then this book takes you through the models and the company history. Good glossy photos too and it covers brands like Hayman and so on, so it's not all Fender and Gibson. A good cheap option of you can find it, and a feel good present to give because its massive and heavy and therefore seems expensive!

Little Mix and early 70's Rickenbacker 4000

I've seen on ebay ex "McBusted" Ashdown 8x10s quite a while back. They had no speakers in them. -
I'm not sure that's right. I recently had to pursue a plumber for a very badly fitted heating system that cost me hundreds to put right and you can recover all of your costs if you win. The key to these things though is that nobody wants it to have to go to court so it's a few we'll written letters saying you will take action if its not resolved by whatever date, with loads of evidence, and then I expect most cases end with an amicable settlement outside of the court system. Its a ball ache and you shouldn't have to go that far but sometimes it's the only way people know you're serious. I'd say keep plugging away, if the shop is dealing with the manufacturer this can take months and be a bit of a black hole. Had it with a wireless system I bought through Andertons, it went back to Line 6 for a repair but did take ages with absolutely no communication in the middle unless I phoned and asked.

Fave vocalists who aren't much cop at singing

Dave Mustaine. -
Agreed. Country would be wrong any other way, and I think some of the rhymes and the feel rely on the accent and slang that just wouldn't work otherwise. I have a friend who moved to the US many years ago. He is determined to keep his Yorkshire accent but he says American things and uses American slang. Its weird.

Glasvegas, sing in a strong Glasgow accent. Forget your dad he's gone becomes forgit yer da he's gone.

I had one that had been beaten to sh!t, won't bore you with all the details but despite it being a bit heavy it was my main gigging bass, the one I kept coming back to even though I had other more expensive basses. I traded it in for my Stingray and later, listening back to old gigs, realised I'd traded in the wrong jazz against the new Ray. Take a punt, you won't lose money and you could get a winner. Do some wast mods like stick in some bartolinis and you can have an absolutely fantastic bass that you won't mind a chunk coming off when the drummer kicks it over again.

Oooooh tempting!!

My song about *being* a (press-ganged) bass player.

That's fantastic! Love it -
I can't call myself a "fan" but I bought Radio Music Society years back and it's a good calming album to have on while trying to concentrate on work. Great bass playing, musicianship and composition and an incredible voice. I followed her on Facebook for a while and it got a bit weird and art studenty for my liking so I'll stick to the jazzy albums. Have just got hold of chamber music society and giving that a run through this morning 😊
