1. Fantastic thread, thanks for all the useful posts. I have a q that seems to be coming from the "other end" - i.e. about using a head with a LOWER impedance than the cab. Bear with me while I paint the picture. I have a Tecamp Puma 1000 and Barefaced Big Baby inbound from Legion on here. This will be my main rig. I've also just acquired an RH450 which I was going to use with my Epifani 8 ohm 500w 2 x 10 for smaller gigs and as a back up. Then I thought about replacing it with a cab which coud be used on its own with the RH450 or together with the BB, possibly a BF Midget. However the BF cabs are 8 ohm. The RH450 is rated 4 ohm and only has one output. I guess I'm going to have to have dedicated cabs for each head, as it's not good to mix 8 ohm and 4 ohm cabs together (with the Tecamp), and if I use an 8 ohm cab (BF or Epifani) with the 4 ohm rated RH I will only be getting half the power out of the head? Advice/opinions/suggestions welcome! And BTW I haven't won the lottery, am selling stuff to fund this!
2. EDIT 6.12.13 - reduced from £450 to £400 collected. Partner says front room is "looking like a b++++y music shop" (new gear arrived). It needs to go! Having wanted one of these all my life and finally being able to afford one (pre loved) this year I've come to the reluctant decision to move it on as the gigs have been smaller this year and it's just not getting used. It's been coupled with an Ampeg SVT 6 Pro and an Epifani 2 x 10. 600 watts rated at 8 ohms it's in mint condition, no scratches, scuffs or abrasions and complete with Mesa fabric dust cover. It's the version with the silver grille and is equipped with switchable crossover (see photo). Choice of two jack sockets and two Speakon sockets (In/Out). These are bombproof cabs and extremely loud but if you're reading this then I guess you already know that! I will probably say no to trades as I've already got new (to me) gear [s]inbound[/s] arrived :-) . Would prefer collection as this would be very heavy to send by courier. Any questions please fire away. Cat not included ha ha ha she wandered in and I never saw her!
3. Very interesting bass and nice playing! I had an Aria SB1000 which I bought new in 1981, I've never seen this model, maybe I've led a sheltered life! I'm not in the market right now but welcome to the site!
4. Can also highly recommend them. I acquired a Geddy Lee Jazz and loved the neck but found the pups a bit trebly for my liking. I'd read up about their 64s and 84s and I rang them and said I needed something in between.....so they wound me something in between......same day.....they arrived in the post next day. They call them 74s but they're still a custom wind. Service is excellent.
5. I've got one of these and they're awesome, the neck is one of the best I've ever played. I've not got particularly long fingers and it's made playing much easier. If anybody's pondering one of these this is a bargain. Good luck with the sale.
6. Can't add much more to the comment above other than endorse it completely! Totally trustworthy and reliable, and a nice guy too.
7. Interesting thread. I've never bothered with any kind of effect but have recently been learning a lot of Muse tracks purely because I enjoy them so much! I was thinking about investing in a pedal to get the sound a bit more authentic and bring some variation to what I can do in gigs (in context with the songs of course!). Do you recommend ferreting about for a Digitech hardwire cm2? I'll look it up in a minute, but do I need anything else to make it work effectively e.g. you suggest above getting the B3K as well? I play through a SVT 6 Pro teamed with Mesa and Epifani 2 x 10s? Thanks.
8. Hey, thanks for that, thought I'd got something horribly wrong ....just have to wait and see. There seemed to be quite a rush in sales in February but it does seem to have slowed down considerably, don't know if the mods keep any stats? I'll be putting more detailed pics up over weekend. It's a great bass and I'd much prefer it to go to someone on this site rather than let it loose, it's such a nice community and we should keep the best weapons for ourselves!
9. Hi folks, had 243 views but no nibbles? Is it too dear for what it is? One sold for the same price a couple of weeks ago, hence where it was pitched, but if it needs adjusting then it needs adjusting. Or is it because I'm new and have no feedback ? Let me know what you think, I convinced him not to put it on Feebay because I thought it would go like a shot on here and it really is a truly great bass, I wouldn't prejudice my reputation with a dog. Cheers, Andy.
10. Nice 1998 Fender American Active 4 string Jazz Bass, serial number DN811457. Price reduction from original listing now down to £740, I have tried to reduce the price in the heading but even though I'm editing it correctly it's not saving the change aaaaaarrrggghh!. Used as a studio bass for the last five years. In good condition with a few minor signs of use but nothing visible to the naked eye at six feet.See photos for close ups of small abrasions in the usual place on the lower body heel. Comes with original Fender hard case which at some time before it was acquired had received a knock which has damaged the outer shell, please see additional pics for details. It means it needs a slight manipulation to close but the clasps are good and the case provides the requisite protection. Alternatively you may wish to acquire a replacement case. I hadn't clocked this, hence price reduction. Neck is straight and action good, the wood has mellowed to a nice honey colour, see additional pics comparing it with my American Standard Precision. Plenty of life in the frets and action is nice. Also listed elsewhere so may disappear without any traffic on here. Any questions fire away. Cheers, Andy.
11. Not been to this event but have been to a few biker events here over the years which have been awesome with great bands and facilities? They sound similar in format, basically Motor Cycle News hires the whole venue for the weekend and puts on a big show with traders, racing stars etc, entertainment, everybody's really into bikes and beer and it's a great friendly atmosphere! Good luck!
12. Yep have emailed Ampeg and generally find them pretty helpful, but they're five hours behind (or more, think they're in St Louis?) and I might get the answer on here first somewhere amongst the witty repostes....but I did ask for them with that title
13. Hi all, Does anybody know a good website or other reference which enables you to date a used Ampeg cab from it's serial number? You'd be surprised what you get when you Google "Dating Ampeg Cabinets" ! I can find stuff on Ampeg amps, but not cabs. Thanks in advance, somebody somewhere will know this I'm sure. Cheers, Andy.
14. Postscript for Conan, thanks for your help. The pickups are EMG. Is it just me or is it like a disease when you go on the forum in the "For Sale" sections and start foaming at the mouth? I never had compulsive obsessive buying tendencies before I joined!
15. Ha ha thank you so much one and all, now at least I know what the abbreviation "CIJ" means (I worked out "MIJ" all by myself)! I agree the owner sounds a bit vague in his responses so I think on balance I'll give it a swerve, it's not as if I need it for a gig this weekend (I've got a gig this weekend, but I'm not desperate for a GL for it). Thanks folks, you're such a helpful bunch and it's greatly appreciated as I make my way back into the front line of low end presence
16. Hi folks, I wasn't sure whether to post this under "ebay", as it relates to an ad there, but it's more a general enquiry to assist me in evaluating an item for sale. Basically I'm looking for one of these and have missed a couple on here but found one on ebay which is not too far away from me. However I have asked the seller the serial number and he says he can't find it? Apparently it's MIJ and I've read on here that these are generally believed to be better versions, anybody got an opinion? Secondly the post says the bass has had active pickups added, does this mean that the electrics/tone controls will have been modified? Again I've asked the seller and he says "the work was done by a professional company". If they're active doesn't that mean that accommodation would have to be found in the body for the battery? The original pickups are for sale with the bass. Any feedback greatly appreciated

19. Is the cab definitely 4 ohm, there's another for sale on the forum at 8 ohm? They're not switchable are they?
